  1. Maybe this link will work for you: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SZhh34W71oE It's listed on YouTube as: SMW 5/14/94
  2. Thanks to some help from OJ, I was able to find this match!. I like the point that this would be a fun match to see live, because I got that feeling right away. Lot's of cool little creative spots and entertaining moments. Some of the humor was a little too silly, for lack of a better term, for me - Mostly the rapid fire low blows, ha. Other than that, I found the match to be good and definitely could see the comparisons to Lucha and Southern tags. I thought some of the moves didn't look very impactful, but they really picked it up in the last 5 to 6 minutes. Fun stuff. ***1/4 #499 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/
  3. This started with lots of submissions and hard chops, but I found the offense from both guys to not have any real direction. About 15 or so minutes in, Jumbo gets fired up and then the match sort of gets out of first gear when Flair starts working over the leg for the figure four. The crowd goes nuts when Jumbo puts the figure four on Flair. That was a cool spot. They really step it up after this leading to Flair taking a piledriver on the outside and Jumbo being thrown into the ring post. A questionable finish with a double pin, but I ended up enjoying the second half of the match. I'd say this is good, but I wouldn't classify as great IMO.
  4. Sabu gets beat down in the early portion of the match, and OMG establishes himself well as a monster out for blood. The crowd goes nuts when Sabu gains the advantage hitting a double axe handle from the top rope to the outside. Sabu starts throwing OMG into chairs as they brawl through the crowd. The lady that screams "Fight!" at them cracked me up. You can hear her talking before the camera ever pans to her... anyway... they brawl back to the ring after that. I thought Sabu's punches looked really good in this match. Cool table spot seeing OMG, at this point in his career, going through one. Whoa, Sabu hits OMG with one hellacious right elbow to the face. OMG is busted open. We get a near fall after the beatdown. We get some more stiff punches from both guys, and they really sucked me in by this point of the match. Sabu hits the moonsault well. It takes everything Sabu can throw out to take OMG down for the three count. I thought this match would be fun, but I actually enjoyed it more than I anticipated. This was really good. I agree with the ***1/2. #455 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  5. There are some stiff strikes in this match. Kikuchi's bump to the outside (from the bodyslam) looked super painful. Kikuchi sold it well on impact, but then lets it go after that. I wish he would've let it sink in a little bit. Fulton's dive out of the ring onto Kikuchi on the outside floor was sick! There were some really cool spots in the match, and it was definitely entertaining. I wouldn't classify it as a great match, but it's super fun. #456 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  6. I tried to watch this on a scrambled channel on my satellite dish when it originally aired. I remember going to the PPV channel and moving the dish slightly. The video was scrambled, but I could hear the audio. I finally started ordering all of the PPVs after that. This match is great. You can tell they are both feeling the moment. The crowd is hot for them, and all the moves are very crisp with sound psychology. Love the left arm work on EG and focus on the back of Jericho by EG. Jericho's facial expressions, while in submission, are fantastic. These guys stole the show on this night. ****1/4 #458 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  7. This started off kind of slow, but picked up after some hard chops and some incredible looking leap frogs from Steamboat. Nowhere near what these two guys would produce later, but cool to see this match in Japan at this time. It was good. It had its moments.
  8. The opening spot with Harley is great! I could watch these two guys fight any time. I actually just watched this match about a month ago, and now I'm watching it again today. The second WCW VHS I ever owned was Spring Stampede 1994. I feel like I saw it in every video store in 1996/1997. I remember I picked it up because it was the cheapest one. Most tapes were close to $30 if I remember right, and this one was like $14.99 because they had so many copies on hand. I think I heard somewhere that it was the best-selling WCW VHS they had, and that is why so many copies circulated. I have no sources to back that up. Anyways, love the guardrail spot with Vader going into the crowd. I will forever love Vader's punches in the corner. And, Boss throwing Vader off the top rope onto his shoulder looked painful. This match is really good and tons of fun. I do feel like Vader sold the effects of the match better than The Boss post-match. This is probably due to the blood on his eye. ***3/4 Boss, gets stripped of "The Boss" title by Bockwinkel after the match. Later in the year there is fun match involving Sting/The Guardian Angel (Boss Man)/& Vader at Fall Brawl 1994. #460 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  9. This was a cool, unique, and very intriguing moment. Much like a lot of Brock Lesnar lately, it's very hard to compare to anything else. It's different. It has a sort of shoot feel to it. I'm really wanting to see how it all plays out, and I assume that's what they were going for. Goldberg looked amazing for his age. It straight up felt like 1997/1998 as soon as they knocked on his dressing room door. They shocked everyone with this, and there certainly is a buzz. Positive for some, and negative for others. They have people talking. Brock Lesnar sold this so well. His facial expressions were great, and his selling of both spears was just fantastic. Paul Heyman did a great job too for the little amount of time he was on camera. I understand the complaints of people saying they should have saved this win for someone like Nakamura, which would have been perfect for fans like us. But, if you are trying to get some of the older fans to come back, then I guess you can see this as a way to get interest back for them, and maybe have Goldberg lose to someone at Mania and really put them over. I said this in the other thread, but I did see friends of mine that don't follow wrestling anymore posting video from WWE's facebook showing the opening moments of the match. I guess that's why I'm saying - that I want to see how it plays out before I make any judgments on anything.
  10. The only way this match can end is submission. This is worked super stiff. They really unload on each other. Ventura says that he's glad he's retired so he doesn't have feel shots like that anymore. Jimmy Hart has to keep reminding them it's a submission match. The first couple of pinfall attempts didn't really bother me, because they explained it well. But, to keep going for it seems kind of dumb. Not as dumb as the faces Garvin was making at Valentine during the figure four. What a goof. I agree that probably does speak to his intelligence level, This was really fun as far as in-ring action itself, it was a war, but some of the goofier aspects of the match keep me from calling it great. I still really enjoyed it. #461 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  11. Yes, I love La Parka and Psicosis as heels against these two. La Parka had some great mannerisms. Rey looked fantastic on offense. Really good teamwork and chemistry within both teams. Juvy's top rope slam looked sick! The finish is off the charts. What a fun match. ***1/2 #462 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  12. I liked the focused attack from Otani on the left arm, followed by the continued selling of the left arm from Liger. Even after he fully takes over on offense, he delivers a really hard slap to Otani, and then shakes off the left arm. Good stuff. Otani sees the weakness, and goes back after it. Liger is working over the left leg. After a really sweet brainbuster, he goes back to the attack on the left leg, and Otani starts drilling him the face with slaps and kicks. I love seeing this type fight trying to get out of a submission (especially in the early going of the match). Sometimes, it doesn't make sense for people to be in submissions, and they just sit there and take it prior to having very much offense laid in on them. This was good to see, and Liger had to throw in some stiff blows to put a stop to all that. You get some exciting offense when things pick up. Eventually Otani goes back to the left arm, and suspense builds as you think Liger may tap. Otani does a great job firing up as he gains the advantage from a dropkick to the back of the head of Liger. Then we get a great nearfall after a German Suplex when Liger gets his foot on the rope. The crowd is hot. I was kind of surprised to see Liger win with a lariat using his left arm (shotei), but hey this was great. **** #464 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  13. I thought the finish of the main event was intriguing. I guess I'll have to see how it all plays out before I completely judge how I feel about it. It definitely got people talking. I saw many friends posting about it on social media that don't normally post about wrestling. Personally, at this point, I do think Nakamura has that aura mentioned above, and I think if someone like him (or Joe) had been the one to finally beat Lesnar (and in 90 seconds at that), that it probably would end up being more beneficial to the company in the long run. Hopefully, this is the end of Shane in the ring. He really felt out of place last night, and seemed like a danger to everyone. Watching him deliver those punches to Braun was pretty funny. Personally, I really enjoyed TakeOver, and definitely felt that it was the better show by far.
  14. Totally, last nights show was a blast
  15. DIY/Revival - As far as US goes, I still think the Blood in the Sand is the best ... but this might be the best WWF/E Tag ever (2 on 2). I'm struggling to think of what to compare it to from WWE. I've kind of been tossing it around in my head all day, and this just might be the best from WWE (tags). Definitely the best NXT tag. There are still All Japan matches I'd have higher too, but I don't mean that as a negative at all. I just saw someone else comparing them earlier. GREAT match. They had a lot of hype to live up to too. Impressive.
  16. Really looking forward to TakeOver... I think the Revival/#DIY match has great potential for a real MOTYC - Nak is my guy these days... So, I can't wait to see what happens in the Main ... this should be awesome!
  17. Sleeze pretty much nailed it - Holy shit this was great. LOVED it. I too was thinking this was likely the most I've ever enjoyed Snuka. There had been so much hate building between the Funks and Brody to this point in All Japan. You could see that Terry was boiling over. Great Great match! ****3/4
  18. Jumbo looked fired up. I thought Flair's facial expressions throughout the match were fantastic. He sold fear, fatigue, and confidence with exceptional timing. I loved the touch of Jumbo being drug to the corner while recovering from the figure four after the second fall. I thought this was great. ****
  19. This match was super fun and exactly what I expected. Brody is a beast, and Dory won't die. Dory is out for revenge from the previous week when Brody dropped a knee on a young kid (appeared to be Funk family member) and the kid was bleeding from the mouth. This is a good bloody brawl. It ends in DQ - Brody ends up dropping the same knee drop on Dory - and Terry Funk comes out still pissed looking for revenge too. Entertaining.
  20. El-P's comments had me cracking up. I have never seen this match before today, but I do remember hearing Jericho talk about this during one of his podcasts at some point. I love how Jericho broke his arm in a "motorcycle accident" according to Jim Ross. Loving the team offense from The Bodies. They really put on an offensive tag team clinic here. Jericho gets the hot tag, and yeah.... wow... he gets busted open, and he is REALLY bleeding. I can see why this would be considered a breakthrough performance from Jericho. He shows a lot of heart, he sells really well, but who knows how he was actually feeling after losing all of that blood. Mark Curtis has to stop the match due to loss of blood. Jericho begs to have the match restarted, and Curtis actually agrees! The Thrillseekers get the surprise win. Good stuff! Very memorable. #466 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  21. Eddy hits a crazy splash from the top turnbuckle to Scorpio on the outside during this match. It looks awesome. There was some good action back and forth in this match. It didn't really suck me in until the splash, but then Eddy hits a great looking tornado DDT on Scorpio following that. This is followed by a frankensteiner and Scorpio is still hanging. Scorpio gets back on top and hits the picture perfect moonsault followed by a powerbomb. Eddy still hanging. Tumbleweed - and as Pete mentioned, Joey blows the call. Then goes on to sell the fact that Eddy kicked out, even though he didn't, and Scorpio could have won the match had his cockiness not gotten the better of him. Eddy wins with a roll up. This is a good match, with some cool spots. #468 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  22. haha yes! A slap to Vader's face to start this off, and off comes the headgear. I'd be feeling pretty stupid at about that point. When your opponent has that much size on you, the little kicks at the leg are a good approach. I love how Vader will cut him off from time to time with one big blow, then back to the kicks. Vader corners him, and Tamura gets a quick blow to the face and fires out. Vader starts to scream from pain due to the continued kicks to the left leg, then Tamura slaps on the submission. Tamura's leg submissions look great. I loved the fall away slam from Vader. Eventually, Vader is too much for Tamura, and he finishes him off. This felt so real and competitive. This was great! I loved it for as short as it was. #469 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-400-451/2/
  23. I'm a little surprised to see this ranked at 470 on a list of the top 500 matches of the 1990's, but I know there are a lot of matches out there, and it is a really big list. I'll see how my opinion of that shakes out in the end. The last time I saw this match, I had it around ****3/4. #470 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/ Rude has a ton of heat. Steamboat has a ninja. I love the work on the left arm during this match. I love the offense from Steamboat, and the selling from Rude. When I think back on this match, I always think about how Rude sells it so well when trying to do his poses. In the opening, after Steamboat rams his left arm against the ring post, Rude is selling after ANY offensive strike that involves his left arm. It's a big part of what I enjoy so much about this match. I love attention to detail like that in wrestling. That's one of the reasons why Nick Bockwinkel is my favorite in-ring performer. Steamboat stays focused on the arm, and through all of this they tell a great story in the ring. Jesse Ventura was the perfect person to be on commentary during this match. He does a great job focusing on the story that Steamboat and Rude are telling. Rude is working over the neck of Steamboat based on the idea that he has previously given Steamboat two Rude Awakenings at the prior Clash of the Champions. I am a bigger fan of the match at Beach Blast, like I assume most others are, but it doesn't affect my opinion of this match. Beach Blast is ***** to me. At this point in time, I don't care so much about the booking when evaluating the match itself. These guys put on a terrific performance here, and I'd consider it to be one of my favorite matches. But, I do think Sleeze has a good point of a real home stretch being needed. I know I said I didn't care too much about the booking, but the finish does hurt it a little bit. I'm leaning towards ****1/2 now, but this is still a favorite match of mine. But, then I think about how some might say, for example, that John Cena vs. AJ styles was ****1/2 (to ***** according to some) from this year. I think about the elements that I loved in this match - the focused offense, the long-term selling, it's just too good say it's only ****1/2 if AJ Cena is ****1/2... I'm running a stream of consciousness here, but for my now I'm sticking with ****3/4.
  24. Shawn Michaels dancing on top of a house, in that outfit, under a spotlight - haha - wow. The 80's style male stripper Tarzan swings from a rope from the top of the house down to the entrance ramp. It doesn't really look that smooth either. I'm a fan of HBK, but I did not remember this at all. It's pretty funny watching it now. I like how serious it got when he hit the ring, but after he throws Owen out of the ring, he immediately goes back into the hilarious striptease dance. I'm not sure why Owen didn't hit the ring and attack him during this, because it seemed like it went on too long and HBK didn't seem to be taking the moment too seriously. You wouldn't think his moment at Mania is on the line. He's waving at the ladies in the crowd, and "having fun" because "that's what it's all about" - Vince. I guess I'm going to contradict all those thoughts here, because I did think it was pretty great when HBK slid between the legs of Owen and ran around ringside high-fiving the fans. Then he kisses a woman, I would say she is Eric Bischoff's type based on the first NWO Sold Out PPV, and her and her friend FREAK OUT. Jerry Lawler says "All the women in here would LOVE to kiss Jim Cornette." Then Owen goes between the legs to high-five the fans like HBK, and they just boo. Great stuff. HBK hits Owen off the tope rope on the outside and the action picks up from there. They really get the crowd into it after a B2B suplex from Owen that HBK sells really well, and Owen starts going to work on HBK. Owen has a nice focused attack on HBK. Shawn does a good job playing to the crowd and getting them hyped during his comeback. I'm understanding all the praise of him as a babyface in this match during the closing moments, and post-sweet chin music. For the match itself, I think ***3/4 is probably about right. #471 - placetobenation.com/countdown-top-500-matches-of-the-90s-500-451/2/
  25. Well I'm looking forward to the Brody/Dory match that happens three days after this. This match was pretty fun at times, and eventually gets out of control. I guess the real story is Brody runs out in the end and delivers a knee drop onto the throat of what seems to be a Funk family member. Possibly Dory Funk's son? The kid is pretty young and he is bleeding from the mouth and looks unconscious. Terry looked PISSED. Pretty crazy...
