Four qualifying matches but only two teams advance. The Steiners are the clear favorites. So hyped for the War Ga...I mean War Zone match!

Portland. The odd couple of Cactus and Regal come together to face Iron & Steel. Condrey shows off. Bam Bam bashes the Bulldozer. Wings of Fire are taking off. Could we be seeing the beginnings of a alliance between the Playboy Club & Camp Cornette? Blackman & Chono are in a true blood feud. Portland night 2. Hall mauls Riggins. The TC continue to have the Brigade's number. Bigelow presses the attack on the Diamond Exchange. The Can-Am's reign proves to be bombproof. Windham strikes a blow for the Brigade. A brawl between Hall and Awesome technically saves Rose's title. Eugene. Finlay, Albright & Pillman all with solid wins. Malenko keeps a firm grip on the LH crown. The Midnights have hit a rough patch on the west coast. Eddie with another successful defense in the main event.

Well Stevens didn't get his way but at least his man's got a rematch coming. Brawny Boys! Love it. "Lightning" Lou is on a roll. Soultaker is a great fit for Akbar. Disalvo gets a chance to flex. The Rose Cousins show off their new attitude. Larry's fixation on David costs him. Damn, Vin Man shows Young the door. Good to see Muraco and Graham stick together. RnR aren't backing down. Taylor with the dirty win in the main event.

Taped at the Fairgrounds in WInston-Salem before Main Event. Originally airing on 7/21/89 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Bob Caudle & David Crockett. The Master Blasters (Iron & Blade) w/"Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan defeat Scott & Kenny Dawson with "Welcome to the Wasteland". Too Cold Scorpio defeats Alex Bateman with the 450. Big John Studd w/"The Perfect 10" Baby Doll defeats Jim Gordon with a Bear hug. Main Event. "The Doctor of Desire" Tom Prichard defeats "Handsome" Harley Race w/JJ Dillion after backdropping his way out of a Pildriver attempt and hitting the Super-kick. As Prichard celebrated with the fans, Dillon could be seen chastising Race. In other news... Paul Jones wasted no Tim in securing his Eliminators a shot at the US Tag Titles after Kronus pinned Davis in last night's main event. The title match will take place at BatB. We recieve word that SSM has accepted Sullivan's terms. The masked man could very well be looking at having to wrestle twice at BatB. A massive 8 man tag has been signed for BatB as Ron Garvin has been allowed to pick three partners of his choosing to take on all Four Horesemen. Garvin has started strong by drafting the Road Warriors!

From the Fairgrounds in Winston-Salem, NC. Previously recorded and airing on 7/20/89 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Gordon Solie. Ring Announcer/Interviews: Sean Mooney. Dynamite Kid defeats "The Thoroughbred" Tommy Cairo w/"The Mastermind" Ron Fuller with a diving headbutt. The Beasts of Burden (Nord the Barbarian & Rip Morgan) w/The Assassin demolish Sean Grayson & Logan Creed before finishing Grayson with a double big boot. After the match, Assassin joins Mooney and says at GAB the Nightmares were lucky to escape with their lives let alone their titles and next time they meet his Beasts, their luck runs out. "Sweet Music Man" Billy Joe Travis defeats The Carolina Reaper with the "Just a Swingin" neckbreaker. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) defeat The Lawmen (Wendell Cooley & Bill Irwin) with "Welcome to Nastyville" on Irwin. SIlver King defeats The Stormtrooper with the "Silver Driver." Kevin Sullivan and Abdullah the Butcher join a terrified Mooney at ringside. Amidst the usual cultish ramblings, Sullivan says if Super Strong Machine wants him at Bash at the Beach, he'll have to beat Abby in a match immediately before! "Taskmaster" Kevin Sullivan defeats Mason Dixon with the "Devil stomp". Main Event. The Paul Jones Army (Ivan, Koloff, Super Destoyer, King Kong Bundy & the Eliminators) w/"Number One" Paul Jones defeat "Boogie Woogie man" Jimmy Valiant, "Black Bullet" Shaska Whatley, NWA Heritage Champion "Wildfire" Tommy Rich & the NWA United States Tag Champions The Nightmares when in the midst of a pier-six brawl, Jones passed a title belt to Kronus who whacked Davis with it.

Rhodes pays the fine and Roberts immediately makes him pay for it. Smith dumping out Kamala and Earthquake is such a cool image. Valentine gets to fight for the IC title but puts a crack in the Hart Foundation to do it. Martel is on point. Duggan & Demolition vs Haku & the SST? Yeah baby! Zeus show his power and I don't blame Paul E for getting nervous. It's official! The Battle of the Giants is on for SummerSlam! Rhodes and Savage bring in the ultimate ringer with the return of the Ultimate Warrior!

Victoria. Douglas backs up Lynn to Cornette's fury. Cameron is back with a vengance. Hall mauls Starr. The OWC rebound form Deseret Storm. Riggins shows what he can do solo. Austin couldn't stand the idea of Bret being a champion. Vancouver. Finlay with a solid submission win. Gunn shoots down Big Juice. The MVC are on a rampage. Bigelow with a big win over Adams. Austin's rage was too much for Douglas. The Ca-Ams and PR put on a clinic. Kelowna. The Southern Boys remain in contention. Bettlejuice vs the Leprechaun sounds like it'd be either the worst movie ever....of the funniest. The Dreamboats are on the way to a title shot. Scotty continues to shine. Malenko tames the Dragon.

It's Vader Time in the UWF! Maybe I'm misremembering but I believe Funaki is the first man to get disqualified in the UWF.

Great look into the big changes happening after WrestleRock.

Eddie returns to save his little brother. Norton shows he is not to be underestimated. Hercules finished Rogers so quickly he had enough energy to pick a fight with Sid. Rogers regroups to help Mimi walk away with the title. Shiek and Saito get wrecked. The Russian weasels out of showing his face. Another controversial finish to a TV title match. Sarge puts the exclamation point on a horrible night for the AAC. In the midst of a bloody brawl, Piper turns on the King. Back to back title loses for The Horsemen! Flair escapes with his thanks to Arn doing the bare minimum though Double A doesn't stick around to save him from Sting's wrath. But at least he showed up.

Championship Coronation. The Horsemen have gone all out. Each of them is in a designer suit there's a whole host of women in cocktail dresses. Two tables are laid out full of snacks and champagne. JJ calls Gordon Solie into the ring to and demands he read the introduction. Solie objects at first but a glare from Ole gets him to comply. It's the most overdramatic, bombastic introduction you've ever heard or it would be if Solie wasn't reading it in the most deadpan voice he can muster. Still, read it he does and when he finishes Buddy Landel is carried to the ring on a throne. Wearing a garish golden tuxedo, Landel takes the mic and goes off about how he was always destined to be World champion, how he and he alone was capable of rescuing the title from "that blue collar bum" Garvin and restoring its tarnished prestige (sharp eyed viewers will notice Harley Race shooting Landel a stern look at that). He swears that with the title around his waist, and his "loyal followers" behind him, Buddy Landel will lead the NWA to heights it has never known. Super Strong Machine issues a challenge. After easily dispatching his opponent, SSD marched over to Sean Mooney and handed him a letter in which he challenged Kevin Sullivan to a match at Bash at the Beach! Lanny Poffo's new attitude. Poffo had a interview this week where he was questioned about his assault on Too Cold Scorpio at GAB. Poffo says ever since he arrived in the NWA, he's been pushed into the background so Scorpio can show off his ONE move. Says when Scorpio beat him thanks to a "crooked ref" that was the last straw. The fact that Scorpio gets a title shot before him is a disgrace and the NWA will learn not to disrespect Lanny Poffo.

Slick's crew and the DA trade blows. Love the visual of the Skyscrapers having to haul out the guardrail with Paul attached. The jig is up! Funk was planning with Heenan the whole time! The Rockers win the US Tag titles in a classic. Gonzalez looks like a monster on both shows.
-
A loaded card for the first anniversary.
-
Awesome visual of it taking three men to defeat Tenryu. Nice touch having it be the PCW regulars in Camp Cornette be the survivors. It must have felt so good for Bret to be able to eliminate Austin. Crimson Death Dust, a fireball and Iron & Steel reuniting? The heels may have lost but they made a powerful statement. Scotty the Body and Mike Awesome cement themselves as the Club members to keep an eye on. Though Hashimoto pinning the TV champion shouldn't be overlooked. The original Triangle of Terror stand tall over the Brigade.

Huber finally strikes Doll down. Burke gave it a good try but St Clair is Simply the Best. I smiled so big seeing the Renegade Warriors show up. The good feelings don't last however as the Rose cousins finally snap. Without Akbar's direction, Kokina falls to the Mighty Yankee. Can't wait to hear Larry bitch about losing to "Bruno's boy". Loved seeing Big Jim and Kaz turn Vin Man into a pinball. Yeah! Taylor may have gotten more of a fight then he expected but he's still cock of the walk. Nikita survives an all out war and stands ready for whatever Kirchner sends next. Roberts meanwhile may have just executed the fastest face turn in AWA history. Shame he had to interrupt Greg's big announcement though /s. Great finish to the tag title match as we have Fabulous new champions. Jumbo's reign was stellar but I think we all knew Hulkamania would be running wild brother.
-
WrestleRock baby! Perez shows Miller he's more than a pretty boy. I think we all knew Fujinami had this handed. Karachi Vice shoot down the Bombers. Sawyer gets put down like the Mad Dog he is. Love the continuing trend of the real Hollywood stars not getting Adias' name right and obviously preferring his opponent. Muraco proves the difference maker as the surprise partner. Blackblood with the big win over Canek with a little help from Akbar and the ax handle. The RnR Express return but Akbar spoils the mood by bringing in the Moondogs! The Olympians retain in a controversial finish. Hansen makes rather short work of Mulligan. After a bloody cage match, the AWA finally has a Wonderful International champion. Bring on night 2!

Interesting to see how fans in-universe react to developing events.
-
Roberts gets hit with quite the fine but I wouldn't be surprised if Rhodes paid it for him. Gonzalez with the monstrous debut. The Rockers reveal some great stipulations for their coming match with the Midnights. Slick bringing in some heavy hitters especially the mighty Zeus! Beefcake takes a little off the top before he goes to take Rude's title. Only in pro wrestling can a contract signing end with somebody getting branded! The two pairs of tag champs go the distance.
-
Oakland. Busick is even striking fear into his own manager. Tenryu rebuilding continues. Douglas with a flash win. The Dreamboats with a star making win. Windham is back in the Brigade. Well that issue between Cactus & Soultaker escalated quickly. San Francisco. Regal downs a tall glass of Juice. Atlas is on a rampage. The Hitman takes out Scotty. The champs go 3-3 in defenses, though the Express needed a draw to do it. Fresno. Awesome wins the big man battle. Windham seamlessly reintegrates himself into the Brigade. Severn dent the Steel Machine. The Jackal sinks his claws into the Eagle. Snow shines in singles. Austin's ego nearly loses his belt. Desert Storm is back with a strong lineup.

Great American Bash Fallout. With GAB in the books the NWA turns its focus to it's next big televised event, Bash at the Beach. The event will be held at the Trask Coliseum in Wilmington NC on August 10th. The event will serve as the beginning of the "Road to Starrcade" as the blocks for this years Starrcade Series will be announced. The new NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Brian Christopher was came out for a promo joined by Baby Doll and her bodyguard Big John Studd. Solie asked how this arrangement came about. Baby Doll says she's the Perfect 10 and she only surrounds herself with perfection. She's got the perfect tag team in Badd Company, the perfect monster in Studd and as soon as she laid eyes on Christopher she knew he'd be the perfect face for the Jr division. Speaking of perfection, Solie says the NWA championship committee believe they've found the perfect opponent for Christopher at BatB, Too Cold Scorpio. Christopher says Scorpio can do all the fancy flips he wants, he doesn't have what it takes to knock "wrestling royalty" from his throne. We see footage showing the ending of the US title match with Fuller walking away. It's announced that Kevin Von Erich has been granted a rematch and this time, the "champion's advantage" will be waved meaning the title can change hands on disqualification or countout. Next week will see the "coronation" of Buddy Landel as NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Portland. A hint of friction between Busick and Cornette. Douglas is getting back into the swing of things. A distracted Austin still holds onto the gold. The growing union between the Southern Boys & the Blood Syndicate should be trouble but the Dreamboats aren't backing down. Scotty is starting to shine. Portland night 2. Awesome grounds the Eagle. The Brigade halts the Club's momentum. The OWC show the Blondes Terror. Cactus falls to the numbers game. Rose actually won a match....on his own! Windham takes a beating but seems to earn trust among the sceptical members of the Brigade. Steamboat fends off another Wild Thing. Eugene. Hashimoto bests the Belfast Bruiser. Tenryu expels the Demon. The DC get burned by the Phoenix. Cactus returns the favor on Soultaker, Eddie & Dean both hold onto their titles.

I always enjoy these preview shows. A little refresher adds a bit of buzz. "I'm sure the Wrestling world is eagerly awaiting this bombshell." Lol.
-
Kawaguchi and Taira both prove themselves but Paulson is the standout in the Shooto ruleset. Sayama takes the win in the main event. Fitting since this was his brainchild.
-
Well Jarrett had a tough job clearing up the mess from the TV title match but I think he did a admirable job. The Hart/Lawler+Piper feud looks to come to an end in a steel cage. Lawler's insults were brutal. I'll say this for the AAC, most of them seem genuinely eager to take the fight to the Americans. Great promo from Debeers. The Horsemen had better get on the same page because there's some heavy hitters coming for them at the Bash. The undercard is looking solid as well.
-
Rotundo & Hughes could have potential. Dusty is going to have to work for his match with Roberts. Sherri had to get a little wet but she helped her team pull through. Martel adds a new dimension with his mask. The Towers and the Skyscrapers finally come to blows. Haku's coronation was going great... until the faces show up. That was actually a good poem by Hennan though. Davey Boy shutting up Honky must've gotten such a pop. Love how Funk went from "let's bury the hatchet" to lighting a branding iron on fire in two segments.
