Great use of Rogers in the opener. Keirn is definitely on the fans good side after shutting him up. Dirty White Boy lives up to his name. Buddy Roberts just broke some hearts by turning on his brothers to join the Stud Stable. I'm sure Dutch will be telling us all about how Calhoun protected Jerry's boy. What an ending with Jimmy Hart unveiling the new First Family. The Executioner's win earlier surprised me a bit but the reveal that it was Honky Tonk Man and Valentine under the masks explained it.

The Rockers fit right in with Andre and the Warrior. Jake is looking for "animalistic instincts" and then the Samoans show up to wreck some poor fools. Hmmm. Tito steps up to help Savage.

The Faces of Fear are gonna be awful pissed their title match was interrupted. I wouldn't want to be the Outlaws next week. Regal is a perfect fit for the European title. HBK done stepped in it now. Cactus Jack is back! The Clique continues to cause trouble. Farooq is still ready to take the fight to the Nation. Though he might want to keep an eye on Bradshaw.

Oakland. The MVC are tearing through the tag ranks. Something set Eddie off. Bigelow spills some Juice. The Midnights remain the best tag team in California. Somebody better tell Dutch that mixing meds and booze can be tricky. Regal ensures there'll be no Scotty two belts. San Francisco. Rhodes' downturn continues. Stormfront and the Superstars take turn screwing the other over. PR stave off the Southern Boys. Gunn surprises Dibiase but still comes up short. Steamboat finally moved past the Playboy. Fresno. The Blondes are really sinking to new depths. Azul lifts the crowd's spirits. Windham is finding his footing. Blackman gives him a fight but Awesome is on a roll. Pillman bests a somewhat cleaned up Beetlejuice. Scotty with another big defense, Stacked card coming to Calgary. Scotty two belts may come to pass yet.

Don't change that channel all that flippin' around! You're about to see the hottest show in town. The biggest stars and the biggest brawls, the biggest hits and the biggest falls. Non stop action no messin' around, pretty soon we're comin' to your town. The way you like it, the way it used to be...Smoky Mountain Wrestling's on TV! You are watching professional wrestling on Knoxville's WEEE-LP, UPN Channel 32! Smoky Mountain Wrestling TV. From the WEEE-LP studio in Knoxville Tennessee. Airdate: 10/11/97 *Opening video of SMW action set to "Into the fire" by Dokken" Bob Caudle & Jim Cornette are standing in front of a SMW banner. Caudle welcomes the fans to another exciting episode of Smoky Mountain Wrestling "professional wrestling the way it used to be and the way you like it". He asks what Cornette is doing out here and Cornette has seen how Caudle has been struggling hosting the show alone week after week so he's decided to join Caudle on commentary going forward! Isn't that great? Caudle says he's sure to be an experience. Cornette asks what's that supposed to mean but Caudle says it's time for the opening match so let's head to the ring. Match #1 Silver Wings defeats "Tough" Tony Falk with the "Silver Lining" (Frog-Splash) *We see footage from a recent event in Chattanooga TN where Earthquake was defending the Smoky Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Championship against the Big Bossman. Things break down as Earthquake's manager Woman calls down her other client Danny Doring. A 2 on 1 beat down ensues culminating in Doring placing a steel chair on Bossman's chest and Earthquake delivers the "Aftershock". Bossman is coughing up blood as he's carried out on a stretcher.* We're back live and the whole trio is with Caudle. He says Bossman was rushed to a local hospital for heavily damaged ribs and there's no word on when or ever if he'll step foot in a SMW ring again. Woman says let that be a message to anyone who even thinks they can take the Heavyweight Title from her monster. Says Earthquake is the most dominant champion in wrestling today and he'll hold that title for as long as she wants him too. She then brings up the tournament that was announced on last week's episode that starts tonight and says she'll have a team here next week to make sure she gets all the gold! Match #2 "Devious" Danny Doring w/Woman defeats Shark Boy with the "Wham, Bam, Thank you ma'am" (double underhook DDT) *VTR- we see a highlight package of Terry Gordy that shows off his power and ends with the words "coming soon"* Match #3 Steve "Mongo" McMichael defeats The Terrorist (Doug Gilbert in a mask) with the "Mongo Spike" (Tombstone Piledriver) Mongo joins Caudle for a promo that mainly shows to show off his personality. His past in the hyped and he says he's gonna run through all the competition in Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Before the main event Caudle goes into detail on the tag title tournament. The opening round will take place in the coming weeks of SMW TV while the semifinals and finals will be held at Halloween Scream on Halloween night at the Cookeville Community Center in Cookeville Tennessee. Main event. Smoky Mountain tag title tournament. The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) defeats The Night Terrors w/Father James Mitchell with the double dropkick. Mitchell is infuriated and walks off without the Terrors.

Taylor takes advantage of a injured Orndorff to capture the International title. Love the "No Holds Barred" tie in. Idol gets a huge opportunity for winning Wargames. SuperClash comes to Denver.

Loved this whole breakdown. Every match at HH has a reason to be there and there's plenty of other interesting stuff going on. -
SMW sends Big Bossman to the WWF in a two part trade. Terry Gordy will be traded immediately with Steve Williams following on November 1st.

Smoky Mountain Wrestling new for October. Backstage restructuring: Since resuming ownership of SMW back in August, Jim Cornette had made clear his intentions to take advantage of the wrestling boom gripping the nation. Mr Cornette has been actively courting potential investors and there have been rumors of him seeking potential TV deals to increase the number of homes SMW is in every week.. Facing this increased workload, it seems Mr Cornette has decided to delegate some of his responsibilities and it has been confirmed that he has brought in a new booker to handle the onscreen product allowing him to focus on behind the scenes business. SMW seeking partnerships with larger promotions: Another method Mr Cornette is employing to expand SMW's reach is pursuing relationships with more prominent names in the wrestling business. It has been recently announced that Smoky Mountain Wrestling as reached a agreement with World Championship Wrestling where the latter will send talent it has determined to be in need of seasoning to compete on SMW programming and events. Interestingly, rumors abound that Cornette is pursuing a similar agreement with the World Wrestling Federation. While the rivalry between WWF and WCW presents an obvious obstacle to both promotions agreeing to send talent to Smoky Mountain events, Mr Cornette has worked for both market leaders in the past so some are saying the idea should not be *totally* discounted. Influx of talent: Lastly it's been reported that SMW has gone on a "shopping spree" bringing in a host of talent not yet signed to any company. The names attached to this shopping spree are a mix of established names without a contract, those who have managed to generate some degree of buzz on the (largely depleted) independent scene with a few lesser known talents. This has apparently been done to convince would-be investors and TV stainos alike that SMW is serious at competing in the pro wrestling landscape.

Thank you. Out of curiosity who did you have under the masks for Mitchell's Night Terrors?
-
I mean if it's cool with the others, and you don't have the time then yeah, I'd do it.

This was more about wrapping up my run in the 96 game. I believe LastStop still has time to re-enter the 97 game. Though if he doesn't....

He went to hit Prichard with it but Prichard ducked and he hit Smothers instead. DWB is distraught and turns into a double Superkick from the bodies for the 1...2...3. As the champs celebrate, Smothers gets up, sees DWB out cold on the mat and exits the cage alone. "Final Encounter" Steel Cage Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Title. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan defeats "Dirty" Dutch Mantell after three "Three point" clothlines. NEW CHAMPION!!!

Michaels may regret not taking Mankind seriously. If anyone in the WWF can shut Lawler's mouth, it's Shamrock. The Faces of Fear make a frightening debut. The Rock and Harlem Heat would've been a great trio to watch. The Outsiders arrive and McMahon is spooked. Kane was my favorite as a kid. Can't quit explain why but he made such an impression on 4 year old me. Ahh, the premier Attitude Era rivalry, Stone Cold vs The Rock.

Memphis wrestling is back and it feels like it never left. Love the sense of continuity you added throughout. Wasn't expecting Sid to be added to the Stable but I can't deny the man is a Stud.

When Martel was announced as a team captain last week, it occurred to me that he'd look pretty good with Slick's crew. How convenient for Rude & Funk they each had a premade team ready to go. No surprise Andre signs up to fight the Heenan Family. Bossman a team straight from the Dungeon. Savage being cagey about his team.

Starrcade Series week 8 results. "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff w/ "Number One" Paul Jones defeats "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant after Jones passed Koloff the "Russian chain" "Rugged" Ron Garvin defeats "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez with a crucifix. Fernandez seemed frustrated after the match and hesitated when Garvin offered a handshake though ultimately accepted. "Handsome" Harley Race w/ JJ Dillon defeats "Walking Condominium" King Kong Bundy w/ "Number One" Paul Jones by countout. Bundy charged at Race who was against the ropes but the cagey veteran lowbridged him sending the 450 pounder crashing to the floor and unable to answer the 10 count. Starrcade Series Leaderboard. Block A 8 pts: Big John Studd 6 pts: Tom Prichard 4 pts: Bob Orton Jr & Dynamite Kid 2 pts: Super Destroyer 0 pts: Wahoo McDaniel Block B 6 pts: King Kong Bundy, Harley Race & Ron Garvin 2 pts: Ivan Koloff, Jimmy Valiant & Manny Fernandez Next week's matches Dynamite Kid vs The Super Destroyer Wahoo McDaniel vs Bob Orton Jr Tom Prichard vs Big John Studd

Portland. The Jackal reasserts himself ahead of his big title match. Lee continues to shine on his own. Hashimoto has a firm grip on the TV Title. Williams continues the Collective's dominance. Regal is the Lion of PCW. The Blondes and the SB's continue to get wild. Tenryu & Severn take turns beating the other's students. The TC owns the Brigade! The Playboy Club goes 0-2 in title matches. Eugene. The Dreamboats continue their rise. Douglas recovers from his recent loss. The OWC make it a perfect weekend for the Collective. Atlas gets the win but Regal prevents he & Cameron from collecting the bounty. Another pair of successful title defenses to close the night.

The Olympians make the Brawny Boys take a powder. Burke fights fire with fire. Colon shows St Clair how much of a wrestler he is. Loved the Miller fakeout in the mask vs mask match. Brandi takes the TV title. Lucky for Lou, big brother Al is here to cheer him up. The R&R put the Moondogs down. Taylor is such a prick. Larry Z falls face first into a win. The Fantastics ensure Thornton's night doesn't get any better. The International title match barely gets started before it gets thrown out. Glamour Doll proves the deciding factor in a brutal Wargames. Hogan retains against Fujinami but gets blasted by a returning Jumbo. Thankfully Nikita is nearby to lend the champion a hand.

The Warriors write the final chapter in their feud with the Rose's. Soultaker almost had it but the ref was a little too quick. He makes Disalvo pay for it though. Justified get their due.

It took the entire Family helping him but Rude gets the title back. Gotta give Tunney credit, he did great picking the team captains.

Warrior knocks Haku off the throne...Rude loses the WWF title...his own screw up cost the Powers of Pain the chance to become tag champions. This might be the worst night of Heenan's career! But wait! Tunney comes in and declares Andre's win invalid and books a rematch. Rude's got another chance. The end to the IC title match cracked me up. You can definitely run this one back. Rough night for the Z man.
