The UWF Revolution is back on, but will it be televised?
-
Kendo Nagasaki and Mr Pogo are together again! Western States fans know just how dangerous these two can be. Jos Leduc is back in Memphis where he belongs.... and is teaming with Dick Slater?! On top of that, the winners of next week's main event get the final slot in the Tag Title tournament. Speaking of which, don't overlook The Assassins. Street is back across the pond and looking for Rip Van Wink...er Rogers. Dutch trades in Jeff Gaylord for Mr Hughes. I call it an upgrade myself. The Bullet scores himself some payback on the Christians.

Portland. Owen and Candido move on in the Tournament of Lions. It's official. Maxx Payne is in the Citadel. Guerrero and Steamboat are heading to the second round. Cheetah Kid gets his win & his belt back but I'm sure Brookside won't be giving up that easy. Portland night 2. Neidhart & Yatsu get heated. Tenryu drops the bomb on PCO. Muscle Beach seem to have more muscle than brains and are kicked out of the Playboy Club. Hennig proves how Perfect he is with a win over his former partners. Haynes finally slays The Monster in a cage. Eugene. Christopher is building serious momentum. Cactus & Regal sticks it to their old teachers. Hashimoto & Furnas all get solid wins. The Southern Boys win a scorcher with the DC.
-
Ash gets one final crack at Rose's title. The champ is throwing a fit when Knighton comes out and finally is able to grab Ash's attention. Humperdinck is having something of an in-ring resurgence. American & Michaels get the win and CA takes out his own partner in his anger.
-
Scott Steiner steps up when Fernandez refuses to do business. Tatum really is establishing himself as a junior member of Hot Stuff Inc. Medusa cements herself as Mid-South's top woman by winning some gold. Murdoch gets his reward for working for a black man sticking with Mid-South through thick and thin. Eddie Gilbert is the face of Mid-South...gods help us all. Shiek really should've kept his mouth shut. Reed shocks everyone by siding with The Nation of Domination and giving Rhodes a whooping he'll never forget. Luger may have taken the easy way out but Vader's still heading out of Mid-South.
-
The Outlaws show everyone how Unhinged they can be. With his strength, Busick is definitely a favorite in the WrestleRock Rumble. Fujinami gets on over on Larry Z. I agree with Adidas, Chicky may be counting his chickens before they hatch. The two sides stepping in the cage for the tag team titles both seem ready for war. Dream Machine & The Harris Brothers look ready to rumble babay. Brown gets clever with an ambush on Nikita.
-
No harm done.

Sherri pulling some contractual wizardry to sign The Nasty Boys, have them ditch Duggan but keep them in the tournament finals. Los Conquistadors assert themselves as WCW's top Lucha duo. Konnan throws his hat in the battle royal. The Rockers get their rematch with The Towers at American Meltdown. Benoit's feud with Gary Hart International gets taken to the next level. WCW sends in the clowns. Z-Man vs HTM is on for Meltdown. But Zenk doesn't leave his partners hanging as he gives his spot to Duggan! Haku gives the champ a good fight but The Dragon comes out on top. Spivey and Savage hit the ring and the brawl is on.
-
Rich is finally on the payroll and Slater finally gets his match with Tommy. Plus the tag title tournament gets inter-promotional as the Mid-South Tag Team Champions are awarded a spot. Gordy with a win over the big Russian definitely puts him in title contention. Leave it to Tommy to get suspended his first night on the job! Next week he & Budro take on Slater and a mystery man. After weeks of jumping through hoops, Mr Ron Wright finally has his boys in the tag title tournament, albiet with a little help from DWB. Next week the entire CWA answers to the Lightning Express and The Bullet himself, Bob Armstrong. Gotta be honest, after such a loaded episode Jeff's main event feels a little underwhelming.
-
Actually I had him nod for yes. But even if he had said no Morgan would've *ahem* overruled him.

And that's why it pains him to see his brother in arms Jimmy Garvin go to war with his blood family in Ron. Says he came to the NWA to help bring this family feud to an end which is why when Jimmy & Ron meet one more time at the Great American Bash he'll be the special guest referee! Main event. If Brown wins he gets a NWA Heritage Title match at The Great American Bash. "Pitbull Kerry Brown defeats The Gatekeeper Jimmy Golden w/"The Mastermind" Ron Fuller with a Powerbomb after Golden was distracted watching Bill Kazmaier carry Ron away on his shoulders!

The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) defeat The Carolina Bobcats with a double dropkick on Bobcat #1. After the match The Andersons as well as JJ Dillon walk down to the ring. JJ grabs the mic and says on behalf of his clients he gladly accepts the Express' invitation to humiliate them in front of a worldwide audience and become NWA World Tag Team Champions while they do it. Behind them Arn Ole make the "belts around their waists" gesture and we go to commercial on a tense state down. Match #4 "The Doctor of Desire Tom Prichard defeats Luke Williams w/Jr Foley with the Superkick. He hands Mooney a note which says as Team Captain he himself will step up next week to face Jones' "tamed beast". Footage from last week's show in Huntington which saw Col Debeers become the new NWA United States Champion. Mooney brings out the man himself and the boos are deafening. Debeers says this marks a glorious new era of the US title as it's finally held by a man of class and dignity who can serve as a "role model to the disheveled rabble of this country". He says he is a magnanimous man however so at the Great American Bash he's issuing an open challenge to any American who thinks they can take this title from him. Match #6 Non title. Sherri arrives and makes sure she's a focal point of the show. Lucha may not be catching on but the double c.o adds some intrigue to the Six Man tournament. The Rockers aren't finished messing with the Towers yet. Bam Bam has his eyes on some gold. Benoit v Crush, Steamboat v Haku, another big six man and a big announcement from Sherri, next week is gonna be huge.

Crash has a rough ride on Air Pillman. Tenryu wins a hard-hitting slugfest with Neidhart. Camp Cornette is a little too tricky for the Wild Things. Brookside shocks all of Canada by becoming the new Light Heavyweight Champion!

IPW has it's eye on independence day with three big matches already announced. Humperdinck interrupts and he's looking for a rematch, 2/3 falls. Knighton is.... looking to learn the Champ's finishing move? Interesting. If DJ has to spend the rest of the year with Dundee & Spazzinsky, she may wring both Terrors necks! The Cuban Assassin had a big night. A win in the dark match before jumping The American after the main event only to be run off byCody Michaels.

NWA Live & Ashville Civic Center in Asheville NC 6/15/88 The Mongolian Mauler defeats The Intern with a Stomach claw. The Patriots (Firebreaker Chip & Todd Champion) defeat Barry O & Butch Moffitt with the "Emergency Situation" on O. "The Doctor of Desire" Tom Prichard defeats "The Monster" Rip Morgan w/Jr Foley by DQ when Morgan got so frustrated he chokeslammed the referee! He tried to attack Prichard with his chain but Prichard managed to wrestle it away and use it to clothesline the madman over the top rope. Give Morgan credit, he was still willing to fight and Foley had to practically drag his client to the back. Super Strong Machine defeats "Maniac" Matt Borne w/"Number One' Paul Jones by countering a suplex attempt into the "Devil Windmill suplex". Borne grabbed a chair but the masked man wisely ducked out before it was used. NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles. The Celestial Trinity (Zodiac, Jason the Terrible & Angel of Death)(c) defeat "The Haitian Sensation Tyree Pride & The South Pacific Connection (Siva Afi & Cocoa Samoa) when Zodiac pinned Afi with a top rope Knee drop. NWA United States Tag Team Titles. The New Breed (Chris Champion & Sean Royal)(c) defeat Buffalo Soldiers (Ranger Ross & Brickhouse Brown) when Tough Guy Inc tried to rush the ring. Security held them back but they managed to cause such a fuss the ref didn't see Champion pull something from his trunks and hit Ross with it. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs "Terrific" Terry Taylor w/JJ Dillon wrestled to a 30 minute time limit draw. Flair was trying to talk the ref into giving them five extra minutes when Taylor tried to jump him but Flair saw him coming and backdropped him to the floor. Taylor & Dillon both decide they've had enough and start heading to the back but stop when they hear Flair over the house mic. "Hey Terry...you say your gonna run me outta here?...you say your the man who's gonna close Space Mountain huh... well tell you what punk...you want it so bad I'm gonna give you another chance...at the Great American Bash....Whhhoooooo"

NWA Live @ Huntington Civic Center in Huntington WV 6/13/88 Stoney Burke defeats The Brooklyn Brawler with a crucifix. The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) w/Jr Foley defeat The Lawmen (Billy Joe Travis & Doug Gilbert) with a double gutbuster on Gilbert. "Chief" Wahoo McDaniel defeats Bret "Hack" Sawyer with a "Tomahawk" chop. "The Ugandan Giant" Kamala w/"Number One" Paul Jones & Friday defeats "World's Strongest" Man Bill Kazmaier when Ellering tripped Kazmaier when he actually managed to get Kamala up for a slam causing him to fall backwards with the Giant on top. NWA Heritage Title. "Tennessee Stud" Robert Fuller(c) w/"The Mastermind" Ron Fuller defeats "British Magician Steve Wright when Robert clipped Wright's leg leaving him vulnerable to the "Fuller Lock" NWA United States Title. Bruiser Brody(c) vs Col Debeers w/Jr Foley. Debeers got heat before the match when he tried to demand that referee Theodore Long be sent to the back saying that a match of such importance couldn't be left to such an "obvious reprobate". Long stood his ground and a NWA official came down and told Debeers he could either wrestle the match with Long officiating or forfeit. Debeers was obviously infuriated but ultimately conceded. A stiff brawl followed with both men trading the advantage. The end sees Brody trying for a splash in the corner but Debeers pulled Long in front of him and the ref took most of the impact. Foley entered the ring and tried to hit the champ with the South African flag only to eat a boot for his trouble. As that was happening, Tully Blanchard sprinted to the ring and as soon as Brody turned around, blasted him in the face with the world title. Tully revives Long as Debeers hits Brody with a face first Piledriver. One groggy three count later, Debeers had won his first title in the NWA. TITLE CHANGE!!!!

I always enjoy these recap style posts you do. Glad to see Richter back in the game and looking forward to her and Medusa. The arrival of the American Dream is a real game changer for Mid-South. He & Reed make a great team to face the Nation of Domin-ayyyy-tion.

Synergy is tuned up and ready for the OG Midnights. Sawyer busts Colon open one more time before WrestleRock. Haystacks is gonna be a hell of a mountain for the Warrior to climb. Chicky is taking it easy before the big match. The two monsters have a misfire leading to a trios loss. I'd keep an eye on Kokina if I were Grizz. Idol puts Poffo in time out. Baby Doll puts Venomous on notice. Another gang fight between Gagne's Gang & foes. The Gunslingers are looking to run the Unhinged Outlaws clear outta town. Brown calls out Nikita and we get these two throwing bombs to close the show.

Humperdinck's charges have better luck than he does. Knighton continues to be a sore loser. Dundee & Spazzinsky's stock just rose to new heights. Wolf is hurt as he & Riggins fall behind. I got a feeling that Rose just pulled a fast one.

Taped at Center Stage Theater before Main Event. Originally airing on 6/11/88 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Gordon Solie & David Crockett. Brad Anderson w/Ole & Arn Anderson defeats The Intern with a Fujiwara armbar. "British Magician Steve Wright defeats The Brooklyn Brawler with the "Octopus hold". Col Debeers w/JR Foley defeats Stoney Burke with the face first Piledriver. Main event. Buffalo Soldiers (Ranger Ross & Brickhouse Brown) The Celestial Trinity Zodiac & Angel of Death) when Ross pinned Zodiac with the "Combat Kick" In other news... The first GAB control center confirms that the main event will see United States Champion & Battlebowl winner Bruiser Brody challenge Tully Blanchard for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. NWA officials are debating wether or not Brody should get a pass on defending the u.s title at the event or will the big man be pulling double duty? Find out in the weeks to come. Likewise it is made official that Joe Lightfoot has excepted the challenge meaning that he will be meeting Wahoo McDaniel in a Indian Strap Match. We see a final promo from the traveling musician, this one more of a montage of him playing various cities. As the video ends we see text that reads "Michael Hayes rocks the NWA.... next week!"

From Center Stage Theater in Atlanta Ga. Previously recorded & airing on 6/10/88 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Gordon Solie Ring announcer/Interviews: Sean Moony Match #1 "The Doctor of Desire" Tom Prichard vs Butch Miller w/JR Foley Prichard has been engaged in a very physical rivalry with Rip Morgan with no end in sight. Tonight he carries this into a match with Morgan's stablemate Miller. The Sheepherder launched an all out assault that had Prichard reeling at certain points but the Doctor remained cool and was eventually able to secure victory with the Superkick. He didn't have long to celebrate as Morgan stomped to ringside only to be meet by a wall of security who barely managed to keep the rivals apart. Match #2 Brett "Hack" Sawyer defeats Jarod Butts with a German suplex. (Bruiser Brody joins Moony and is stomping around yelling about how the worst nightmare the NWA officials is going to come true at the Great American Bash when be becomes NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Says he knows the suits aren't excited about having a wildman like him as the face of their company but he doesn't care. Bruiser Brody does what he wants, when he wants and in Washington DC that means snatching the Ten Pounds of Gold off Blanchard's bloody carcus) Match #3 NWA United States Champion Bruiser Brody kills Dan Bert Chance with the "King Kong" Knee Drop. Match #4 "Chief" Wahoo McDaniel vs "Chief" Joe Lightfoot This one breaks down fast with neither man paying much heed to the instructions of referee Nick Patrick. After several minutes of chaotic brawling Lightfoot rakes Wahoo's eyes and retrievers his "War Club". He swings for the head but Wahoo has regained enough sight to see it coming and duck. Lightfoot winds up for another but catches a boot to the gut allowing Wahoo to snatch the club! Without hesitation, he starts wailing away on Lightfoot who has to dive to the floor to get away. Wahoo grabs Mooney's mic and says if Lightfoot wants to prove he has what it takes to be Chief then he can meet him at GAB where they'll settle things the way Chiefs should... in an INDIAN STRAP MATCH! (Before the next match, Kerry Brown tells Mooney that he just needs one more crack at Fuller to take the NWA Heritage Title, and he can't think of any place better to do that than a city steeped in heritage like Washington DC) Match #5 "Pitbull" Kerry Brown defeats Anton Jacobs with a Powerbomb. (Terry Taylor joins Moony and hypes being the runner up in Battlebowl and says he would've won the whole thing if not for Brody's "caveman skull". Still he says, there's always retiring Ric Flair to look forward to) Match #6 "Terrific" Terry Taylor w/JJ Dillon defeats Macaulay Daniels with the "Five-arm" Main Event. Super Strong Machine, The Zero Fighters (Keiichi Yamada Hiroshi Hase) & The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) vs The Paul Jones Army (Matt Borne, The Super Destroyer, Kamala & The Nightmares) w/"Number One Paul Jones & Friday A lot of bad blood here. Paul Jones has targeted all these men since forming his Army and while the soldiers under his command have changed his vendettas haven't. Poor Tommy Young was at his wits end trying to police all this. Alas he only has two eyes so when Jones passed Friday safari helmet to Borne who used it to K.O Matt Youngblood he missed it entirely only turning in time to make the three count. As the heels celebrated in the aisleway, SSM took the mic and while his english was broken, he's message was beyond clear. SSM: Paul Jones Army....you....us.... Great American Bash..... WARGAMES!!!!!

Oliver and Synergy get chances to shine. It takes two to beat the Big Guy. The loaded mask comes in clutch for a trios win. Vin Man tries to help Kelly but Peterson takes them both. The Unhinged Outlaws give the Gunslingers a taste of what's coming in the Bunkhouse match. Sawyer & Blackwell leave their WrestleRock opponents laying. Nikita puts down the Grizz to end things on a high note.
-
Medusa is building herself a nice win streak in Mid-South. Dibiase is laser focused on getting his belt back. Poor Gordon's ears must've been ringing after interviewing Vader and the Texas Outlaws back to back. Hot Stuff Inc's plan didn't go off as intended. The Nation of Domination may have just put the Dog to sleep.
-
Deseret Storm is here! I like the visual of Tenryu peacing out and leaving Rose alone. The Knights Templar stand united in victory. Brookside definitely has a case for a Light Heavyweight Title shot now. A clean sweep for the Dream Team. Christopher and the Midnights bring a win to Camp Cornette. The night ends on a dark note with the NoE standing tall.
