You have to have something hot to perk up a crowd before the main on a long show. The cooldown match has always been stupid, especially as WWE always used it to put the women in a nothing match to make sure the fans know not to give a shit about it. You should want the crowd buzzing as much as possible going into the main event, not cooled down needing to get excited again.

There was also one in Layla/Statlander, and the triple threat

Imo the most important things about wrestling psychology are pacing and emotion. I feel like a lot of discussion online for a long time now has been overly concerned with every single move, spot, sell, facial reaction having to make perfect sense and everything lead to the next thing. I would compare it to songs where the lyrics don't really make sense or mean anything, but the melody and rhythm are great.

I think Adam Cole is pretty good and his size doesn't really matter too much because he carries himself and is presented as a star. However, he got into some really bad habits in NXT that then spread to all the NXT main events. There are times when his size does matter because he's doing shit like getting into the hockey fights with Luchasaurus or controlling Keith Lee with headlocks and it looks absolutely laughable. That's just bad psychology, not unlike those Nia Jax vs Alexa Bliss matches where Alexa somehow physically dominated most of the match instead of controlling with technique or cutting her down. My biggest issue with him is the Panama Sunrise is the worst Canadian Destroyer variant and makes no fucking sense even in wrestling physics.

The work MJF is doing in the Punk feud is definitely a million times better than that stretch of doing nothing but shock jock cheap heat shit.
