The Poison patch makes it cool.

Hmmm... 2 rollups in 2 matches. This is creative.

For the record, I thought a Code Red and Canadian Destroyer were the same move. Going back on youtube, one is a sunset flip pin and one is a sunset flip piledriver.

Bob Backlund vs. Don Muraco (9/21/81) Some of the worst punches known to man start this thing off. This is followed by Bobs goofy headlock and a terrible Muraco clothesline. First three minutes is really bad. Muraco responds with a CHINLOCK! Then in a weird display, Muraco goes for the one boot pin, Backlund grabs the foot but Don drops a legdrop. It just looked weird. So Muraco starts working the abs of Backlund and I am digging this portion until Don goes back to the headlock. Come on, this was getting back on a right track. When Bob gets on offense, he finally shows the nasty with some good punches, nasty boot rakes and his piledriver. After Bob's cool offense, he works an armbar? They are working this armbar sequence entirely too long. Bob does some cool shit with it but again, in complete random spots. Muraco tries to changes the tide with some nasty forearms but Bob stays in control. After a Bob atomic drop, Muraco looks dead on the outside but hits Bob in the throat and follows with an Oriental Spike jab to the throat. That was cool. Every time Bob tries to get in the ring, Muraco keeps attacking the throat. Muraco hits his Tombstone piledriver followed by an awkward Superfly splash. Muraco goes for a butterfly suplex but Bob deadlifts Don into a pinning combo for the win even though Don's foot was over the ropes. This is a match that would have been a contender at 20 minutes. At 32 minutes, it felt way too long and the guys were just doing random shit at points. Some of the sequences were awkward a's hell, others were really cool and some were done with no rhyme or reason. The Bob armlock sequence went way too long and the moves were either really nasty or really shitty. This match defines multiple personality disorder. Bob Backlund vs. Don Muraco (10/17/81) You can tell these guys were going long because they were wayyyyy too patient in the beginning. None of the frantic energy that started the last match. Don't know if that is a good thing since some of the offense was so shitty before. First 20 minutes, nothing happening, Bob works a hammerlock and Muraco tries in vain to escape or get out. 2nd 20 minutes, Don turns the tide by attacking Bob's ribs and abs. Shit, this is good Muraco. Why doesn't he do this the whole match? Foot stomps, standing on the abs, butt drop on the abs. Good shit. The drawback is that to kill time, it looks like Muraco is applying a stomach claw but they aren't really working the hold. Bob makes a comeback and decides to use the head scissors as his next time killer of choice. Muraco regains control with an ankle hold and in one of the dumbest goofiest displays I have seen, it looks like Bob is dropping Muraco into a pinning combo but continues rocking like a rocking horse until he ends up being the one pinned. Final 20, Muraco back with a leg lock but that is the loosest leg lock in history. This shit is starting to fall apart. First, Muraco tries to turn a Bob monkey flip into a pin but that was botched then Don botches a rope roll up spot and flops to the mat n delayed fashion. After that, Don goes back to the leg because fuck, why not? Bob escapes by dropping a leg over Don's face and then starts working Don's legs because he hasn't done that yet. Cool deadlift spot out of a leglock though. I am digging Bob's Indian deathlock but this could have been done about 45 minutes ago. There are about 5 minutes to go. I tap out. I am at the point in my life where I don't want to see 2 guys go an hour in scientific match ups. It hurts even more when the work is poor. Multi-man hour long matches? Sure. This was just painful and I have still not found the great Muraco classic..

What a stupid finish. SHould have just had Ambrose stay buried under the rubble.

I think this is their tribute to Dusty

New Day vs. Prime Time - Man, I gotta give props to Young for getting in there and playing his best Ricky Morton. - I didn’t expect that result at all. Props to Titus and Young for winning the belts. - Match was fun.
-
John Cena vs. Kevin Owens - Amazing, they are pulling out completely different moves to kick out of - I enjoyed the first one and I enjoyed this one nearly as much. - Are you fucking kidding me…. Canadian Destroyer???? This is absurd. - OK, we knew Cena was winning but the Owens experiment was fun while it lasted.

Nikki Bella vs. Paige - Hell yeah… Tully Blanchard reference + bonus points for Nikki focusing on those ribs - I liked Paige’s little multiple knees to the boobs spot. - Hell, I am digging this match. Nasty shots, cool little escapes. No blown moves - I even liked the little twist at the end with Brie taking the stuffing out of her bra. - Thumbs up from me! Not Sasha-Becky thumbs up but enjoyable throughout.

Money In the Bank - Fun match with some cool twists and turns along the way. I enjoyed the New Day interference, not so much for Bray Wyatt. We'll see if Roman and Bray have any chemistry in the months to come. I am happy Kane didn't win and love Sheamus so I am ok with the result.

Awesome Dusty tribute

0-1 on the easiest match to predict. Poor Barrett. The KOTR took over the IC title for jobbing titles.

OK, the show is a few hours away and I think it is time to make predictions. R-Truth vs. King Barrett (Kickoff Match) - Lame. Nikki Bella vs. Paige - If there goal is to make Nikki the longest reigning women's champ then I see no reason to bet against her. Ryback vs. Big Show - The common sense thing to do is have Ryback win and build the belt. With that said, would it shock anyone if they gave it to Big Show? New Day vs. Prime Time Players - New Day retains. Money in the Bank (Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus vs. Randy Orton vs. Kane vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Neville) - Before the E Chamber, I would have said this is guaranteed to be a great entertaining spotfest. After E Chamber, it could be a disappointing clusterfuck that makes everyone look like shit coming out of it. Who knows? I don't know if I like Roman Reigns winning the MITB but would anyone care if someone else won it? John Cena vs. Kevin Owens - Rusev match 2. Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins (Ladder Match) - Seth gets his belt back. Dean disappears into obscurity. This may be another... good action, terrible booking show. I have no idea what to predict with this company anymore.

I hardly ever rail on Dave outside of match ratings but this line legitimately confused me when reading the results of tonight's UFC show... The result was right but Dave needs to be a little more clear in what was going on here.

Did wrestling needlessly chase off a lot of good talent?

I have the podcast downloaded in my "To listen" file but I haven't heard it yet. Anyway, I also think we need to challenge the notion that if a guy only has a 2-3 year run, he is a failure. I don't think it is that unhealthy to have some flash in the pan superstars. Guys who burn bright and flame out. -

Yeah, I forgot who I was joking with the other day but Exile is for the OCD crowd. Our show is for the ADD crowd. -
How long should it take someone in your opinion Parv? I thought his feud with Dustin was fine. I am also assuming you have not seen his USWA stuff.

Dangerous Alliance Wrestling Podcast Episode #2

We released this at the worst time on the worst day to release a non-Dusty podcast but don't skip out on this show. I am curious to hear who people would have picked up in 1985 for their upstart promotions and thoughts on that Savage-OMG match from the SNME. Anyway, enjoy Beast!!! -
A case for Steve Austin... 1990 Steve Austin vs. Chris Adams feud - We found out that Adams in the 80s was a great worker but he wasn't a miracle worker. If he didn't have a dance partner, he didn't always hit a homerun. With a very green Austin, he has a feud of the year contender with entertaining TV matches and angles week to week. Watching Austin evolve his rookie year was awesome because he looked like he belonged from day one. No MOTYCs but you weren't going to get any MOTYCs on Dallas TV at that time. However, Austin was never downright bad and was often in step with Adams throughout the feud. 1991 - Austin is cutting his teeth in Dallas in more entertaining TV matches and tag teams. He has some awesome TV matches and even if you aren't getting MOTYs, his TV output is solid. He joins WCW later in the year and is thrown into a program with Dustin Rhodes that was solid. Again, he was only around for less than two years at this point. I think 2 years in, Shawn was still doing jobs in Central States or maybe just forming his team with Janetty. 1991-1992 - Dangerous Alliance Austin - Austin was working great TV matches again and performed well on PPV. HE was mainly in a tag team role but he delivered much in the same way that Shawn and Marty delivered as the Rockers. That's a plus for Austin and it is a plus for Shawn. Good for them. Still, early in his career, Austin is a pretty great TV worker and blossoming as a performer. 1993 - Austin does the Hollywood Blondes thing and then a mini-feud with Pillman. I know people enjoy the Blondes and I think they were hit or miss but I wouldn't call it a knock to say he had a pretty good year. Again, no MOTYs but a solid TV player. 1994 - When I rewatched all of the Clashes and PPVs, Austin was a standout alongside Steven Regal who really upped his game. I enjoyed almost all of his performances even when he was being wasted away later on against Duggan. This was the year where Austin just clicked and he was knocking it out of the park. Not every Austin match made the yearbook so it doesn't really come across that way there but he was just killing it. I also enjoyed the Steamboat feud much more than yearbook viewers and consider it his 2nd great feud behind the Adams feud but with awesome matches to add to the resume. 1995 - Injured... ECW... Ringmaster... blah blah blah 1996- KOTR, Vega feud, MOTYC with Bret 1997 - Awesome centerpiece in the Hart Foundation vs. Austin feud. Great matches throughout the year. MOTYC with Bret at Mania. 1998 - Had good matches after having to adjust his style. Not my favorite period. 1999 - The Rock matches were great. Being stuck in a feud with Kane who has never had a great match and 1999 Taker who didn't have any great matches that year really hurts. 2001 - Resurgence. At the time, nearly every match he was in was praised.... HHH, Rock, Benoit, Angle, etc. 2002-2003 - I really like the last Rock match. I don't know what else he did.
