  1. I don't understand the reasoning of putting Kanemoto under the mask. He wasn't anywhere near as athletic as Sayama, or as overall good as Misawa was when he got the mask. So, he's basically doomed to fail. Putting him in with three longtime vets is a good learning experience, but he doesn't have a prayer of measuring up.
  2. Brad said in his ROH Shoot, that he always preferred to call things in the ring, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't.
  3. The only one that strikes me (admittedly, far from an authority on Lucha workers) odd are Texano and Silver King being rated as strong hands. Some of the best Lucha tags and trios that I've seen have had Los Cowboys involved.
  4. I watched this the first time on Will's Brad Armstrong comp way back when, and watching it again here didn't help matters at all. I am curious about the whole "five minutes notice" myth though, because it *IS* WCW, where such disorganization isn't exactly uncommon. According to Graham's site, the match was taped on the same night as the prior week's 2/3 Falls six man on May 11th. So, I guess it's possible that someone forgot to post the lineup, or left it off the lineup until it was coming up and the agents and such were scrambling wondering where Brad and Muta were at, which would also explain no entrance music if the guys in the truck weren't expecting it. Of course, how exactly does this get to be even a little bit known, unless it's something that Dave would have reported?
  5. I assume it was another way to separate them from the WWF. They were all about cartoony gimmicks, but WCW was all about the wrestling.
  6. Rikki Rachtman is a Double-A fan, clearly. Really strong promo from Arn here, it's almost UFC like in how he focuses on logic instead of being over the top.
  7. I liked the Pillman match more, but this was a damn fine match. Everyone points out Hall and Nash when talking about WCW taking established WWF names and pushing them as top guys, but I think it really started with Rude. He debuted in late October '91 and by February he was the hottest heel in the company.
  8. Dutch is awesome, "What would Tim Horner do with $5,000 anyway, buy a gun rack?" Landell is awesome for using I'm Too Sexy. Horner isn't awesome at all.
  9. Smoky Mountain seemed to be the only gig that Buddy didn't screw up in short order. Was Cornette just overly lenient, or did Buddy finally straighten himself out? Great stuff from Buddy, and I love Bob saying that instant replay has never worked in any sport. Seeing as it's used in pretty much every other sport, and is randomly enforced in this sport.
  10. Gotta love "interpromotional" politics (since Global obviously wasn't participating with this). Eddie went from Lawler, to Jarrett, to King Cobra. At this rate, he'll be jerking the curtain and defending the Global Title against one one of the Moondogs victims. Great promo from Eddie, but what's with him getting buried?
  11. Pete, I don't recall these vignettes at all, and a lot of this stuff was intrinsic to my childhood. I remember the Nailz and Razor Ramon vignettes as though they were yesterday, but nothing from Crush. Seriously, what was the point of this one. It was all of fifteen seconds?
  12. Pretty hardcore stuff, considering the fed and the time frame. Agreed about how unrealistic it was that nobody came to help. An ex con in a prison jump suit is beating the tar out of Bossman, and nobody lifts a finger to stop it.
  13. No doubt that this is good, but it comes off lacking compared to the All Asia classic and the legendary six man before it on the yearbook.
  14. It's on like neckbone! Remarkable, to me, that they showed this much promise so early on. Considering they'd make it to WCW the following year, and it wasn't until 1997-98 that Booker really started to make a name for himself as a worker. I was also angry in '92 because of Super Soakers, because my mom wouldn't let me have one.
  15. I'm gonna steal my own metaphor that used for the Shawn/Foley match from Mind Games. For one magical night, the stars were aligned just right. The perfect team of gaijin dick heels, the perfect face in peril, the perfect hot tag, and the perfect, rabid, crowd. Kikuchi's goal seemed to be to make sure his life ended on this night, he takes every bump that he can possibly take, and Doug almost breaks him in half with the crab hold.
  16. I'll fully admit that I haven't seen a ton of AJW, but this just didn't resonate with me all that much. The pace is amazing, and they had some god near falls toward the end, I especially liked the failed monkey flip and jackknife cradle. But it felt more like an indy spotfest, than it did some of the other great AJW matches that I'd seen.
  17. I dug this a ton, but I wouldn't rate it all that highly. The heels didn't really get to get any heat until the third fall when they got to work over Steamboat for a time. It helps that Koloff was mostly kept on the apron and only involved for important spots, like setting up the finishes to the first and third falls. I really didn't like the finish to the second fall either, there's no reason why the heels couldn't have used the phone to steal the win.
  18. This is wrestlecrap, pure and simple. It's amusing wrestlecrap, with Precious semingly trying to mold them into respectable people, but Michael and Jimmy were still Michael and Jimmy.
  19. Good lord, I love these Eric Embry promos. All the intensity of Warrior, and you can actually understand WTF he's talking about. A fun little TV match follows, with a funny line of "This one's for Prichard!" then the Moondogs run in and all hell breaks loose. Embry is so tough or nuts, that he no sells the board shot.
  20. I agree with the notion that Gilbert didn't really need to be involved. Sure, he had that original promo with Prichard, but he'd already moved on up to Lawler and Jarrett, so this is sort of below him. Travis shows up and Christopher's new rivalry is set.
  21. Gilbert shoots on Jarrett, and his failed basketball career. Gilbert is awesome here. Like Loss said, the Flair look really worked for Eddie.
  22. The usual goofy promo from Warrior, only this time he starts "bleeding" some sort of black liquid. Much cooler than the vomiting.
  23. I bet that's what Flair's actual voicemail sounds like.
  24. Here's the Warrior puking! One of the few bad angles that I, as a nine year old mark, knew was stupid. Honestly, I don't see the point in including both the original footage and this on the disc. The stuff before the puking wasn't so great that it needed to be seen twice, like Steamer hanging Rude was.
