  1. This was easily the best lucha match on the set so far. I could watch Dos Caras work on the mat all day!
  2. Awesome promo from Cornette, that's pretty much a total shoot.
  3. Another fun and crazy brawl, with a pretty good fired up promo from Austin Idol. I especially liked him going through the laundry list of things that people had tried to do to him at various points in his career.
  4. Holy Crow, quite the racist promo from Coraluzzo "You've been eating that greasy smelly fried Memphis chicken."
  5. This was fucking awesome. Just when it seems like Jarrett and Lawler are going to get one over on the heels, they outsmart them again. This time it's an imposter Richard Lee at ringside getting his ass kicked by Jarrett until the real one shows up.
  6. There's not much to say that wasn't already said in this thread. This is pretty nasty stuff. I wonder if Lee's whistle was the inspiration for Fonzie in ECW?
  7. This was kind of backwards to me, you'd think they'd build up to the promo with Sherri coming out on TV to watch one of Shawn's matches or something. It's just random to have Sherri suddenly declare her love for Shawn.
  8. More goofy stuff. I'm assuming that Vince or Patterson had recently watched Live and Let Die and decided that they needed a Baron Samedi character.
  9. The WWF is making progress with Flair promos, we've gone from his gear and robe to a sweater. This is typically goofy WWF stuff for the time period, although Flair's promo was good and Sid's reaction to Tunney announcing Hogan as the challenger was great.
  10. The finish surprised me here, I expected a flash roll up by Bret, or UT getting DQ'd. This was rather fun, Taker just sort of ran through his usual stuff, but Bret was game and UT was good about bumping and selling for Bret, especially the dropkick that sent him out of the ring, and Bret's counter to the rope walk. Gorilla and Bobby were both on too. Gorilla: Look at that creep. Bobby: Well The Hitman is. . . . . Gorilla: I was talking about Paul Bearer.
  11. This was pretty choice stuff, Fuerza was awesome here. I could have done without the Konnan/Caras stuff, but even that led to a bad ass moment of Fuerza choking Octagon with Konnan's hideous shirt.
  12. Two of the best in the world of the 1980's show that they've still got it. The limb work and subsequent selling was great, especially Hansen's arm. I loved the finish with Jumbo blocking the lariat with the jumping knee, and then getting blasted by a standing lariat.
  13. I liked this, but Benoit working Lucha just seems like a huge disconnect to me. Sort of like the Benoit/Casas tag match earlier in the set. One thing I did dig is the finish, I've always hated how luchadores seem to give up as soon as the hold is applied, but starting with Villano's missed senton, Benoit focused on his back and Villano lingered in his holds plenty long enough.
  14. I was blown away when I first saw this match seven or eight years ago. I still think it's pretty great, but not in the upper echelon of All Japan in the '90's. What sticks out for me is how giving Jumbo and Taue are to their much lower ranked opponents, Jumbo goes soaring off the apron when they both take shots at him, and Taue was very giving to Kikuchi in the early moments. I think Kikuchi's tag to Kobashi was a mistake, it seemed like a spot where he'd be oh so close and then barely miss it. But he made it and Kobashi had to come in and it seemed awkward. I loved the spot where Jumbo cut off Kikuchi going up top, so Kobashi ran to intercept him and first stopped to incapacitate Taue before halting Jumbo.
  15. http://www.rspwfaq.net/2012/08/terms-that-...l#disqus_thread SKeith apprently incurred the wrath of Tyson Kidd for insinuating that Harry Smith used steroids.
  16. Arn feigning the knee injury was great, and Heyman offering Dustin money to leave was priceless. After weeks of sneak attacks, Dustin and Windham finally get one over on the Alliance when Windham stops Austin, and then also cuts of Dangerously trying to use the phone. Dustin holds them off with a chair while Windham gives Austin a taste of his own medicine.
  17. I thought the battle royal segment itself was pretty weak, but then again, compared to the Moondog stuff going on in the USWA, pretty anything is going to look overly tame. Embry's promo was pretty good though, even though he was pretty clearly ripping off Terry Funk.
  18. Ho hum, just another outstanding trios from the Misawa/Tsuruta feud. Misawa's stoicism means that he isn't normally known for great selling, but he was pretty great here, and Jumbo and co. were awesome heeling things up on him. At least until he killed Fuchi with the elbow and then just casually walked over and tagged in Kawada. Kawada was great as the fired up partner, taking the fight to Jumbo and Taue. The finish stretch is fun, with Kobashi staying alive longer than anyone though he could have, I was surprised that he survived Jumbo's backdrop, but Taue finally kept him down.
  19. I didn't think this was anything special, but it wasn't anywhere near as horrible as the Freebirds deal from the Clash.
  20. Good lord I'm loving this stuff. I especially liked that the Moondogs had a chair that read RIP Jeff Jarrett, after Jarrett and Fuller had the RIP Richard Lee chair from the week before. Just when you think that maybe seeing these teams brawl and go nuts with weapons could start getting repetitive, Lawler shoots a fireball at Richard Lee and you're back to counting the minutes until next week.
  21. Landing Jesse had to be considered quite a coup for WCW. Indeed, the idea of Jesse being the man in the booth does make Superbrawl immediately seem like a big deal. I think Sting/Luger would have gotten over better had Lex beaten some real contenders during his run with the strap. Ron Simmons? Rick Steiner? Not exactly huge threats to the title.
  22. This is as good an example as any at why NWA and WCW never really tried any "sports entertainment" stuff like vignettes for debuting workers. At least "Badstreet USA" had a following and got a crowd reaction.
  23. This looks totally thrown together, but it's better than it has any right to be, in spite of Bagwell screwing things up quite often. But, Pillman, Tracy, and Taylor are determined to push through, and that's what happens. I think
  24. I honestly didn't think too highly of this, especially with Rude, Steamer, and Sting involved. But it was fun for what it was meant to be, which is continuing the whole Dangerous Alliance angle. I could watch Rude sell all day long, and Jesse was awesome getting all worked up when Sting and Steamboat would switch illegally to keep working on Rude. The dogpile pin on Austin was amusing, and the Rude vs Steamboat issue is further heated up en route to Superbrawl, but I expected more.
  25. I always heard this praised to the moon, and when I first saw it I was unimpressed. I always figured because the bar had been raised so much by the business that I just couldn't appreciate it for the time frame. But no, the Moondogs vs. Jarrett, Fuller, and Lawler stuff KILLS this sixteen ways from Sunday.
