  1. Those Assassins weren't either Jody Hamilton or at that time Dirty Rhodes as they were working Florida. It was some other guys. That is the El Mongol from the old days.
  2. JUNE 12, 1981 – ROME, GA – MEMORIAL GYM (Jim Wilson – Promoter) > Ted Allen vs. Gerald Finley > The Avenger vs. The Mongol > The Inferno vs. Jim Wilson > The Assassin vs. Thunderbolt Patterson JUNE 19, 1981 – ROCKMART, GA – HIGH SCHOOL (Thunderbolt Patterson – Promoter) > The Avenger vs. El Mongol > Ted Allen vs. Gerald Finley > Jack Johnson vs. Bobby Vernon > The Assassins vs. Thunderbolt Patterson & Jim Wilson
  3. Orndorff was at his peak from about 80-82 and was in serious contention for a NWA title run along with DiBiase & Patera.
  4. Meltz said a couple of weeks ago that Kane was taking a break to mend his body.
  5. Brick is fucking awesome and I want about 5 more shoots with him. The Skip Young story was phenomenal along with the Kerry/Toni Adams tanning bed story.
  6. I have a group of 10-15 friends that will only watch RAW and Smackdown on the rare occasion and when I try to show them other stuff they don't really care about it. All of them have watched it for well over 10 years but if it isn't WWE or wasn't WCW then it's pretty meaningless to them.
  7. Dynamite's reputation outside the ring might have had something to do with them not getting booked by NWA territories.
  8. Man this issue is hilarious as you have Meltzer getting ready to quit wrestling, not a fan of lucha libre, Kerry Von Erich as Ivan Drago, and hating on Ronnie Garvin.
  9. Another thing about Solie is that most people have only seen his Georgia work but he may have been even better in Florida especially when Dusty was on top.
  10. Austin Idol the heel was another master of the stall.
  11. Yeah he still had some good stuff in 1982. I think once guys like Piper & Hayes left and Jim Barnett getting canned soured Solie.
  12. Regarding Solie, his best years were in the 70's up until like 1981.
  13. Well it helped that the guys were getting bonuses for working hard. Watch Zbyszko circa 1983-85 for his prime era of stalling.
  14. Ole Anderson got stabbed by a dude in I think in Spartanburg in like 1982 so those feelings were still prevalent. I wouldn't go by some newspaper poll to determine what the fans opinions were back then but by the actions of said fans in the buildings.
  15. Michaels vs. Davey > Michaels vs. Bret as far as overall match quality goes.
  16. This is from today's Meltz update and the fucking awesome files.
  17. Here are the Rich/Sawyer Omni matches 5/3/82 10/3/82 10/17/82 = No DQ Falls Count Anywhere 2/6/83 7/17/83 = Texas Death 10/23/83 = Last Battle of Atlanta They wrestled in quite a few matches around the horn in that 17 month period plus had a few TV matches such as 2/6/82, 4/17/82, among a few others. They had some real wars in Chattanooga which is a spot that a lot of the Atlanta fans would drive up to see because those shows had a reputation for being somewhat wilder. 5/8/82 5/22/82 = No DQ 6/5/82 = Steel Cage 7/24/82 7/31/82 = Coal Miners Glove 8/21/82 9/4/82 = Steel Cage 9/3/83 They had a lot of tag matches as well so they always had a feud but they also had other feuds as well to keep fresh.
  18. Loss pretty much hit it on the head with everything he wrote. A couple of addendums here, Flair always loved having the babyface use the sleeper hold and the backslide put on him especially after Kerry used it on him to win the title. There is nothing wrong with a formula if it is successful because The Sheik had his formula of matches too that wasn't good per se but it did business until he went too long on top.
  19. Race was really the last NWA champion that would work heel challengers on a sparse basis because Flair would defend against the heels of Jim Crockett Promotions but other than that he defended against only babyfaces although there were rarities.
  20. It's a good book but there are some real bad date issues sorta like Dusty's book
  21. I'd like to hear about his runs as a booker especially in Florida & Georgia in the mid 70's. He wrote about it in his book but I'd like to hear some different stories.
  22. It would be huge for people that have DTV or Dish because they could finally get the 24/7 programming. There are some really odd specialty channels now on DTV so having a WWE specialty channel would make perfect sense and do some big numbers.
  23. They are not doing Cena/Batista this early as Dave hasn't turned heel yet. I see a 6-Pack Challenge at Summerslam with either Rey or the returning Randy Orton taking the final spot.
  24. Vince never worked solo on TV much as he had different partners whether it be Argentina Rocca, Bruno, or Pat Patterson but still it was fun stuff and Vince would sometimes break kayfabe on commentary talking about the jobbers which was great. WWF TV pre-expansion was pretty fun stuff although the matches weren't really good. David Crockett was a "serious" announcer before Dusty got there and made a good team with Bob Caudle. He wasn't over the top and they called the matches straight while doing a good job.
  25. Andre the Giant worked Florida & Portland dates into April 1984 well after the WWF national expansion started as VJM was still letting his buddies use his services until his death.
