Well executed angle but Vince really makes this segment for me. Knowing how much he loves this kind of dirty comedy makes his reaction all the better.

Updated for June. What a month! Great wrestling and the NWO angle is starting up. Has to be the best month yet.

I'm the odd man out on these two trios because I liked this one more -- a good bit more really, I loved this match. The first fall was so sweet; Wagner and Dandy rocking the mat, Dantes and Atlantis doing a pretty damn good job of it themselves, and Garza and Felino working a cool athletic sequence. Wagner and Dandy work around a headlock for a bit at the end, where Wagner has Dandy in the headlock, they get up to work a quick exchange and then Wagner takes him back down with the same headlock -- a common construction in American wrestling, but somehow I feel that formula isn't seen as often in lucha. Atlantis taking out all the rudos at once in the beginning of the second fall was great. Tecnico comeback in the third fall was really energetic and they settle into Dandy and Felino working a really high-end exchange in the ring, and Wagner and Garza follow it up. Nice dive section toward the end. This was a great trios.

Very good trios match. Dandy and Casas working together is the highlight and they have some great strike exchange. This match also made me feel like Silver King and Felino had a good one on one match in them. Two wild gives at the end from Silver King and Dandy. I don't think this went into great trios territory, but it was very well worked and entertaining, and everyone looked good.

This match ruled! Verged on Battlarts style with suplex highspots and plenty of rule breaking. Kakihara and Fujiwara really make this match, though everyone's great. Kakihara is a really energetic striker at first but as the match goes out he's out classed by Fujiwara and Fujinami, and some of the best parts of the match are Fujiwara schooling him. He does get a cool comeback at the end to lead into the finish. So much cool stuff in this match from everyone.

Really great angle with a real sense of chaos. Feels really groundbreaking in context. I don't like the title switch though, really devalues the belts. Hall and Nash could have cost Luger and Sting the belts in a way that kept Luger and Sting strong, added heat to the match and put some emphasis on the new guys winning.

Lex Luger jinxed the entire Monday Night Wars here. This is the mystical reason WCW fell.

Really fun match and that delivers what you might hope on paper. Eddy uses his speed and skill and Barbarian hits some cool power moves. They do botch a hurricanrana and the crowd lets them have it a bit. Cool ending. Eddy's post-match promo sure was pretty lame; he would come a long way.

Really good matched worked well to feel like a hard fought, world title main event. Opening stuff was well done, punctuated with some energetic exchanges here and there. Davey's press slam dump to the outside was an awesome spot. That powerbomb ruled too. Maybe Shawn could have gotten some more offense. Finish was weird. Warrior showing up might be the biggest pop of the year so far.

Basically a squash with Austin working over the ribs. Jake's brief comeback was cool. Everyone knows the promo and it's pretty good. Austin already feels primed to be a major star, he has incredible magnetism.

Big win for Mankind!

Disappointed in Vince's reaction to the mouth-to-mouth compared to the RAW angle. Huge pop for Johnson's comeback was cool.

Wow this turned into a really, really good match. It feels like Mero has a bad reputation thanks to how buried he got during Sable's push and Foley putting him down his book, but he looked great here. Just taking this match by itself, I would have had Mero pegged as the better wrestler. Austin works over Mero for a good while and does a solid job of it, including a great looking Thesz press, but the match really gets good when Mero makes a comeback. Everything Mero does here looks really good -- a nice running dropkick, some good dives, a really cool trust-fall like dive out of the corner. Cool ending with Austin dropping Mero throat-first onto the ropes and following it up with the Stunner. Seems like this would have to be high on the list of Austin's best singles matches at this point in his career.

I liked this a good bit. When it comes to spotfests I prefer it sloppy rather than overly-produced and phony looking like you have in WWE gimmick matches or weapons brawls. Definitely the best of their matches so far and had some pretty nice spots, especially Sabu's dive onto RVD while crotched on the barricade.

You're not gonna find many more examples of a total bells and whistles match succeeding this spectacularly. Gordy is over HUGE and they work the match to get the most out of what he seems to be able to do. He beats Raven around the arena and Raven bleeds for him. Back in the ring they do some overbooked interference that the crowd goes absolutely nuts for. Not a long match but a blast for every second of it, I loved it a lot. And then, man, there's a lot of stuff going on in this segment. I don't quite know what to make of the Sandman's son angle. But man, Sandman goes into the back crying, a second later the fans are chanting for Gordy, a second later Bluedust is out and Beulah DDTs him. ADD crash wrestling to say the least but man did the crowd eat it all up.

This match really over-delivers relative to how it looks on paper. Pit Bull throws out a pretty deep arsenal of good looking power moves -- that press slam into a tombstone was nasty. Jericho is good too and they put together an entertaining, competitive match with a good ending. I really liked Douglas freaking out over the title change. This whole story has been good to build to the famous four-way coming up.

Hales was so terrible he added to the comedy. Lawler's line about selling his car for gas money is a million years old but the way he straight-faced it telling Lance that it's actually true was hilarious USWA has had some great TV this year.

If you just had the first two falls as a one fall match this would have been pretty damn good. Lots of energy, non-stop action and some really cool spots. But that's the story of joshi in 1996 it seems -- if large chunks of the matches were shaved off, you could have some good stuff. The third fall decidedly brought down the match as a whole, but I still don't think it detracted from it as much as others do. But it definitely detracted. They brought it down a gear or two, and the thing is it was still a moves-moves-moves kind of match, just with less energy (without the kind of selling you need to make a less energetic finishing segment work) and the spots were less interesting.

The crowd doesn't like to hear Hogan's coming back and who can blame them? At this point you hope he stays away forever. Watching WCW these last two months or so and seeing how good a lot of things were going even before the NWO angle, I am wondering how things would have turned out if he just stayed gone, even for all the good he would do over the next year and a half.

If you had to pick a definitive Flair/Savage match for the year, I think this would have to be it. Fun, heated brawl with some great moments of catharsis for Savage -- rubbing Flair into the food and pouring champagne on him, and clearing through the three women to hit Flair with the elbow. Both elbows looked pretty damn good too. Two good pre-match promos from Flair and Savage and a hilarious Heenan chase also. Really good segment/match.

Sort of a weird match; Eddy is on offense for the entire match until the end. To his credit he does a good job keeping things interesting.

I love this match. Back in my early days of ordering tapes I ordered a Jushin Liger comp (on VHS!) that had some of his well known classics, some lesser iterations of his major opponents, and a couple matches against guys I hadn't heard of yet, most of which weren't anything special. I was just watching the tape, didn't have a matchlist handy, and this match up comes on. At this point I'm not able to recognize Dick Togo by sight, might not have been familiar with him at all yet. And I remember being blown away by this anonymous match I've never heard talked about against a guy I didn't know. Just one of those random wrestling memories that sticks with me. Anyway, this match still rules. Doesn't follow the traditional juniors template. Togo hits a tope early and takes control for a bit, including a nasty double stomp. It's all action from there on out, with Liger taking most of the offense going forward. Liger hitting Togo with a huge move on the outside and standing tall taunting in the ring is excellent. That Togo slide-through drop kick, following by the springboard senton, followed by the powerbomb counter is one beauty of a sequence. Togo's La Magistral nearfall countering the Shotei ruled. Togo gets enough offense in throughout, including two sentons in a row, to look strong and make this feel competitive. Awesome match.

Sort of a standard-quality juniors match, though Taka's double jump dive was spectacular and the ending was cool.
