Match really needs to be a brawling in the stands deal

Guys like Sting were mediocre pro wrestlers that liked wrestling and kept doing it until they broke down because they weren’t able to make a career in movies or as a bodybuilder and feed their egos any other way. Guys like Funk were great pro wrestlers that loved wrestling and kept doing it until they broke down because they weren’t able to make a career in movies or football or feed their egos any other way They both get a prize. Maybe this discussion could go in another direction: Is “loving the business”intrinsic to being one of the greats?
-
On the other hand, Funk did think he could do other things. He just wasn't successful. So, moonsaulting on Sabu.

I tend to get grossed out by Flair and those types that would be dead in the water without the company and the cultish devotion they have to "the business" and "our industry," but I can see what you mean. Saying it was "just a job opportunity" goes a little far, it think. He got to have his career recognized by his family. He has a giant barn where he keeps all of his ring gear and memorabilia. He's obviously proud of what he's done and has good memories in the business.

What does this even mean?

No mention of Luger from Sting. Kind of shocked.

The "This is awesome" chant during Bayley v Asuka was half-assed because the crowd tired themselves out, the match was layed out good on paper but Bayley never lays her shit in and that takes me out of the match and that show was not better than Mania X-7, Canadian Stampede, or One Night Stand.
-
Liked Bayley and Asuka more on rewatch, not as exciting and dramatic as Bayley's matches vs Sasha but was cool. Watching right after Nak/Zayn though made it harder to buy into Bayley's offense sometimes and the telegraphing stood out more. Thought the crowd also didn't do this any favors. Early in the match Asuka SMASHES Bayley with a forearm that basically no one reacts to because chanting. The stuff with her after the match was great. Sami hasn't looked that strong since the Takeover when he won the belt. Some of the punches he gave Nak were brutal. The way he sold enzuigiri was one of the best spots of the night.

The Bret Hart special

Bayley did not look great for most of that match and worked like it was a rehearsal. The forearms were especially terrible following the last match and even running the ropes looked odd and stiff.

They just re-played the funeral/coffin dragging angle with Show and Bossman on the network. Good omen for this weekend's booking being utterly insane

He didn't lose his legends deal, I thought? That was something Flair said that turned out to be incorrect.

I used the analogy because it's the same as what that poster is doing - imposing current standards onto something that had a different meaning, or at least multiple meanings, in the '70s and '80s. Exactly. People need to take historical context into account if they're going to argue about something. You can't just take 2016 standards and retroactively apply them to 1985. Characters in Twain's books owned slaves, which obviously isn't good, but you can't suddenly say Twain wrote them as villains when he didn't necessarily do that. It was a different time, with different standards and different perceptions. You can look back and say how backward those characters were by today's standards, but you can't say the author intended them to be bad people just because that's the way they'd be seen now. I understand not wanting to give Michael Hayes the benefit of the doubt because of Mark Henry and other incidents, but the fact is, the Rebel Flag outfits the Freebirds wore did not give them racist heat at the time. That was clearly not the intention back then. Ha ha ha. Whaaat? Yup, no racist heat or baiting black people to see Hayes get his comeuppance after calling JYD "boy" either, I guess. You wanna believe Hayes is genuine and give him a pass because most of the time it was a "state feud" thing, whatever. Good for you. But claiming no one in the south could've interpreted it in a racial way, and that they didn't play into that, is insulting.

If he really thought the Barber gimmick "stopped him from getting over" then he's a complete idiot because that's pretty much the only reason he ever WAS over. There is really nothing even wrong with the gimmick, especially since they had him cut enough people's hair (even if mostly jobbers after squash matches) that there was always at least the possibility of him cutting the hair of whatever heel he was feuding with. According to him that was all Hogan and not part of the original idea. He also sounds loooaded in the clip C.S. posted

He got great reactions for a time but even as a kid in the 90s I was hoping Sid was really going to rearrange his face...
-
Cena acknowledges those reactions though. Reign ignores them, or is made to ignore them, so he comes off like a bigger dork. Something Russo said on Austin's podcast that actually sounded like a good idea would be if Reigns went out there and flipped off the fans. Imagine the reaction that would get. Maybe that would turn him completely, but maybe not. Maybe he could still be a guy that does right but divides the crowd. But the fact that he doesn't interact with the audience on any level is what's really made this year so fuckin boring to watch. He's really one of, if not the least interesting personalities on the entire roster.

Foley + Muta weren't good opponents?

So Jericho's podcast with Charles Robinson went up today and they talked about what happened in the match with Neville. Some expert bullshitting. Jericho's version goes: "I get up and, this is really going south cuz now people are gonna start sniffing that something's wrong. So I'm like, I push you. Like, boom. I push you....But I'm thinking, If I push Charles - I should've just said DQ me - But I'm thinking If I push you, you'll DQ me. Because I'm thinking we gotta get the spotlight off of Neville. Because I don't want this to be a really awkward moment when there's a guy down in the ring and then the thing just kind of ends." And "I never once thought, Charles yousonofabitch, I was just glad you DQ'd me." Watch the tape back. That's all.

Now all we need is for the twitter rumor about the "big plans" with The New Day for Mania to be true and we will officially be living in the Twilight Zone
