It was funny listening to the show, since I sent in my list a few hours prior. All so similar, but far apart. Great great match too and would have it in my top 11-20.

Well, I think my Raw was better than the real one.

Tim did a great subtle correction later on.

If it was to bring Triple H to put Rollins into the match for an easy win to get the title? I think that works. I understand him bringing the Authority back as part of his heel turn. If he was turning heel he shouldn't have saved Edge in the aftermath though. Yeah, that makes sense.. unless Edge is in on it.

Gross. Triple threats suck. Cena-Lesnar have had 3 awesome matches and I was excited for the final one. Now they add Rollins who I don't like as a heel into this, which means Triple H interference and this should stink. The ONLY way this is a good idea if they use this to turn Cena heel and steal the title, while Triple H helps Cena win and Rollins goes babyface.

Interesting. Did it say anything about sleeperholds and checking the arm, because when Russo is booking that is in every match.

I was thinking of showing Dave some of the things that audacity can do to help with editing, but then I am afraid it will take away some of the charm of the technical follies.

What do you value in wrestling when watching and rating matches?
Grimmas replied to Tim Cooke's topic in Pro Wrestling
To really generalize, if a wrestling match has nothing that annoys me (i.e. things make sense) good selling and a hot finishing stretch than I am pretty happy. Ideally, a wrestling match makes sense and builds towards a logically finish. I got to say though, if I really like the finish or finishing sequence I usually rate it higher. During the NJ set that Inoki-Hansen match that ended with a Hansen lariat on the apron for a count out win got rated way higher than it should have, because I loved that finish so much. You are allowed to bore me during the beginning or parts in the middle, but make the last parts count. -
On VOW too, they were going on and on about it blowing away last year's and being a potential sell out on the preview show.

How is the weekly (is it weekly even?) TV anyway? I hear a lot about big shows, but not much about week-to-week in smaller venues. I heard the weekly tv is just matches from the ppvs.

Another thing on "great" NJ booking. During the G1 I argued that it was insane that Honma did not get a win. A lot of people argued it was stupid to do it then and to save it for something bigger. Was a throwaway six man on the undercard of the Dome really a bigger deal than the G1?

I didn't get to see Sakuraba-Suzuki and I skipped the main event, because I had no desire to watch a really long Okada-Tanahashi match ever let alone that late. However, I did have one match over 4 stars and that was Nakamura-Ibushi at 4 3/4.
-
So all this talk of great NJ booking and how they set up the story beautifully for Okada to win. What happened?
-
I hated the Ishii-Makabe match. Just felt like the first half of the match was missing and they didn't deserve the epic ending, because there was no build to it.
-
Suzuki/Sakuraba is the match you're most interested in? It is for me.

No, NJPW World is Japanese. Only way to get JR is through Flipps app or ppv provider. By the way, just signed up for the NJPW World thing. I think I am going to go and get 3 or so hours of sleep and try to re-watch this one!

I need at least a few weeks to watch everything. Make the deadline the day of the Super Bowl or something. I watched the entire AWA set in 3 weeks, I can do this. If I knew this was coming, I would have no issue. Unfortunately I never go to DVDR anymore.

I read work that fits this description almost daily. You're talking about an idealized past that never existed. I'm not. Don't be patronizing. Go and read journals and broadsheets from 1830 - 1960. The standard of writing in my experience is much higher. There are good pieces today and there were bad pieces then. You still get good writers like Barney Ronay who would have been right at home in that era. I'm talking in general. Much more content is produced today and a good proportion of it is vacuous, uninformative, shoddily produced click bait. They are catering to an audience with lower attention span and who expects a lot of content to be produced daily if not hourly. Not an audience with fewer distractions who are buying a publication weekly and devote time and attention to reading it. As such, the overall quality has dipped. People used to cut clippings out of music publications and save them because they enjoyed reading them so much. When was the last time Rolling Stone or NME or Pitchfork produced a great piece of journalism? The problem with that is the best stuff is preserved and saved, while everything from today is available.

Thanks for the comments guys. As for veering too far off course, that is just too unrealistic. Nobody is going to come into the WWE and then all the sudden Cesaro is champion. Even if that is what you want, you should at least build to it. Unless, of course, you are Russo. I have WrestleMania planed out and I am curious how far off it is from the real version. I feel once Survivor Series is done, the plan for Mania can't change too much. Of course, we will see. I plan on doing this weekly until at least Mania, if not further.

Atlantis-UG is the best match of the last three years.

That ends week 1. I will put up Week 2 before January 12th, but I don't want to jump ahead too much in case of injuries or whatever. Here is the Royal Rumble 2015 card, so far: The Usos © vs Cesaro & Tyson Kidd (Tag Team Titles) Big Show vs Roman Reigns (Street Fight, winner enters the Rumble) Nikki Bella © vs Natalya (Divas Title) Brock Lesnar © vs John Cena (World Heavyweight Title) Royal Rumble featuring: Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Erick Rowan, Luke Harper, Titus O'Neill, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel, Bad News Barrett, Sami Zayn, Dean Ambrose & either Big Show or Roman Reigns.
