He's getting quite the push in NXT.

Hennig was great pre-WWF, but I also think he had a great run in 93. From the Bret, Doink to Flair matches he was pretty awesome as a babyface. Sure the Michaels match at SummerSlam sucked, but I wouldn't squarely blame that on Hennig. I think the true problem with Hennig is that he isn't a good heel, but an amazing face in the ring.

This smacks of revisionist history. MMA didn't mean nearly as much 15 years ago as it does now. Boxing, while on the decline, was still a way bigger deal back then. Whatever charisma and mic skills Shamrock had never really translated to the WWE environment. The thought that he ever would've been a bigger deal than Michaels in that match is just flat out absurd, and that's even if you think HBK was wildly overrated like some people here do. Shamrock was pretty freaking over. That died when he lost to Michaels in a shitty match. MMA had buzz and was huge a few years prior. Tyson had a appeal, look what he did to that main event. Sure, HBK was the bigger star, but if Shamrock made Bret tap for the title and then destroyed everyone up till WM and faced Austin with Tyson as a referee, it would had been a HUGE deal. Drawing Power for WM14 1) Tyson 2) Austin ...... 3) Michaels

I really thought that with Brock as champion and not on TV, that the number one contenders would be a bigger deal. Also, why shouldn't the IC Title be the main focus of guys? That should be the title used to replace the World Title, while Brock is gone.

Examples? First one that comes to mind is his fire Batista idea. Guy was a jerk backstage and said something Kelly didn't like so Kelly equated that to meaning Batista had no talent and was worthless to the business. Lots of money being left on the table right there. He also said the same thing about Shamrock, and there were many others but they aren't springing to mind right now. Man... they really screwed up Shamrock. Imagine a scenario where Bret taps out to Shamrock for the title. No screwjob and they set up the unstoppable MMA Shamrock dropping the title to Austin at Mania. Maybe Michaels doesn't have a casket match at Rumble that destroys his back, etc... EDIT: I forgot Tyson was the referee. Holy Shit!!!! Mike Tyson (former boxing champion) referees Former MMA champion and current WWF Champion Ken Shamrock vs the toughest man in wrestling, Steve Austin. Money!

So, this is the second podcast that involved me that I actually listened to myself (the Thanksgiving Special was the first). What became clear to me is that we need a wrap up to the show. Whether it be some awards or what have you. We can't rank the main guys every episode. Suggestions? What do you guys want to hear?

For WWE you have regular MSG, Boston Gardens, Spectrum and Maple Leaf Gardens to look at. The problem is, they often repeat matches move for move from one show to the other. However, sometimes, they were completely different programs.

I feel like slapping myself for defending him but quite a few attitude era guys have given russo credit for helping with their characters. His wcw run was a stain on wrestling but i was a massive ovw fan at the time (use to get the tapes shipped) and greg gagne killed it dead. He helped some characters, but also produced the worst TV in the history of wrestling. Even if you discount WCW, his TNA stuff is hideous. Not to mention that for all the money '99 WWF made, it is unbearable to watch. I still believe most people with that talent would had done better. Greg Gagne killed a small development territory, Russo produced the worst wrestling ever in WCW and TNA and some of the worst ever for the WWF. It's a no contest. If you don't think its Russo, then you need to go re-watch stuff because its almost unbelievably bad. From fake shoots, to him winning the world title, to miscarriages and incest, to VKM to fat oily guy, etc...

Russo, easily. No argument. Any success he had was Rock/Austin/McMahon related. A monkey could book those guys and make money.

I'm going to call Chad my back up in this series. When I disagree with Parv, Chad always comes to the rescue to defend me!

It was a win-win for both. Cabana got the big scoop, Punk got his story out and didn't have to deal with some annoying interviewer. They both knew what they were doing.

Hennig vs Hansen from AWA (May 31, 86) is the best short match in history. I think he'll make it for his baby face work. AWA, Portland and I like Hennig 92-93 WWF.

Great post and something I had never thought about before. The heel/face dynamic may be dated. I'm not advocating the shitty Vince Russo shades of grey bullshit as a replacement though. Maybe most people are faces and there are few heels. That could work out well, of course eliminate the heel authority figure too!

Forever. How often did we see Jack Tunney on TV? How often does Gary Bettman or other sports GM's show up? It should be once or twice a year to make an announcement. Why can't a championship committee just make the matches without appearing on TV. The other aspect of that is I HATE when they book the show on the fly (ie the show starts without a main event). It's so insulting to the viewing and incredibly stupid.

I daydream a lot and a month ago I was thinking about this topic. How could someone compete. Here is the idea for a new company I had. It's based off tours, something like 12 shows in 3 weeks than take 2-3 weeks off. You own or rent a tour bus (model after music tours) rent hotels, give food vouchers etc... 3 of these shows are taped in higher quality and edited together for your weekly "TV" show. Another one is your live "PPV" show. The rest are all taped, maybe not at same quality, but taped. If you can get a TV deal you air your TV shows there and do these other things online. If you can't you set up your online/platform streaming service. You can subscribe to get every show for some value or you can pick and choose shows for certain values. Say.. It's 9.99 a month for everything or you can get the iPPV for 9.99 and the other taped shows for 1.99 and the TV is free on that service. TV is not live to air, it's like ECW's where you can show things from the past, music videos, etc.. Even show some footage from the smaller shows in lesser quality. You have a base set of talent and the rest of the folks needed to round out the shows are local guys from where you are touring. Diverse talent too. You need women, minis, puro, lucha, european, black, white, fat, muscle, techniciains, brawlers, etc.... You have an online champion where every title defense is put up online, not only on your platform but on youtuibe/dailymotion, etc... Should be up the next morning, like every show that is on demand. That's all I can think of.
