Great stuff once again from late 90's Jericho. For some reason I remembered the lights coming on and him getting hit with the boom mic and him throwing a tantrum. I guess I'm thinking of something else. Anyway, great stuff as he may be the best promo in WCW now that Flair is MIA.

Agreed this was one of the better Douglas promos. He was more focused on storyline stuff rather than his faux shoot bullshit.

Interesting way to go about the tag title situation. Heyman always emphasized being different from the other two even if it was at the sake of being less entertaining. Also, Mean Gene would never give a portion of the hotline away for free.

[1998-03-02-WCW-Nitro] Music Video: Diamond Dallas Page

Lame band. Lame music. The debut of Reese before the actual debut of Reese.- 4 replies

[1998-03-02-WCW-Nitro] Randy Savage: Real Man of the Year
TravJ1979 replied to Loss's topic in March 1998
Interesting piece. I mostly remember this as the reason I, in the height of my smarky days, began writing a Savage bio, on notebook paper, filled with crap from Apter mags and second rate newsletters I was getting at the time. How embarrassing.- 5 replies

A prime reason why WWF took over from WCW around this time. They both bait and switch, but WWF has something, in this case two somethings, come out of it. WCW would have just had a nWo beatdown and signed off. The kick to Austin was great, the Kane/Taker stuff was what it was. I still maintain that before the 10th bell that Taker's gong should have went off.

[1998-03-02-WWF-Raw] DX, Vince McMahon and Mike Tyson

In hindsight this build was tremendous. I didn't appreciate it enough as a guy just out of high school. Tremendously done. -
[1998-03-01-ECW-Living Dangerously] Bam Bam Bigelow vs Taz
TravJ1979 replied to Loss's topic in March 1998
Yeah, Bigelow just isn't the right opponent for Taz. I only remembered two spots coming into this match since I last watched it and those were the suplex off the ramp where I am shocked Taz didn't get a concussion or broken neck, and the finish. Beyond that it didn't appeal to me. Just two oafs beating on each other in a lackluster way.- 7 replies

[1998-03-01-ECW-Living Dangerously] Tommy Dreamer vs Justin Credible
TravJ1979 replied to Loss's topic in March 1998
Dreamer hits the Spicolli Driver and Credible IMMEDIATELY gets up so they can go through this overbooked bullshit of a finish. I hate everyone involved and this shows why some of ECW was and is just plain overrated.- 5 replies

I like the idea as well. This interview is when I realized Rock was going to be a mega star.

Big overblown cluster of a segment. Tease Sting/Scott Hall and get nothing except a thousand nWo members. Schiavone casually asking, "Hey, who's that guy?" in regards to the Disciple is a pure example of the wheels coming off.

[1998-02-23-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin's Road To Wrestlemania
TravJ1979 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
Pete looked like a total doofus. The Austin package was fantastic. -
I wonder if they actually reached out to Dusty. This should of been the end of the Goldust pretends to be ... thing going on, but I don't think it was. Dustin was great here and JBL looked like a true ass kicker.

The blonde was probably HBK's girl until Nash said, Hey, there is this Nitro girl.... Wouldn't be surprised if Hayes was behind this as it was reminiscent of the Freebirds after the Von Erichs turn.

[1998-02-22-WCW-Superbrawl VIII] Hulk Hogan vs Sting
TravJ1979 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
I second the notion that Sting should have won clean and spray painted Hogan and the aftermath of this match should have been the finish of Starrcade 1998. Now, Sting has lost everything that was built in his cache throughout the crow days. I was surprised Sting won the belt here.- 8 replies

I was happy this happened as the Steiner's, or any babyface tag team in WCW at this time, were just stale as fuck. Steiner's career got an extra ten years out of this turn.

[1998-02-22-WCW-Superbrawl VIII] DDP vs Chris Benoit
TravJ1979 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
I thought this was great, but I will have to re-watch as my wife was nagging me the whole fucking time I watched this. This may be the best WCW match this year thus far. Definitely need to watch again.- 8 replies

As a match it seemed they had a lot planned, but everything was a bit off and sloppy. I remember this being better than it actually was during this watch. The mask removal was anticlimactic. I remember when this happened my friends saying Juvi was the ugliest man they've ever seen.

Guess I am in the minority as I enjoyed the Saturn match better. I give it a pass to all of the objections here because the story goes this was called completely on the fly. I took Saturn as just being out of control and doing moves in rapid fashion to attempt a quick win after all of his beginning pin attempts failed. Booker T did a great job in this entire thirty+ minute segment. Definitely an eye opener that he should have changed his attire and went main event. I may watch the Martel part again just to double check, but all in all these two matches are up there with Flair/Hart as the best of WCW this year.
