  1. He's Shooting~! In 1998, despite his stature I thought Taz was a legit badass. Knowing what we know now, Styles could have probably taken him. Way too shooty Mc-shoot for my tastes.
  2. This is Gertner pre overly sexual innuendo schtick and was probably the best use of him ever.
  3. It's been a couple of years since this YB set came out. Has this been released in full like the earlier Ohtani match in February? if so, I'd love to see it. I enjoyed the 7 mins or so that was shown.
  4. This started out great with Shinzaki attacking as soon as Gannosuke leaves the dressing room, and then gets power bombed through a table by Gannosuke and Kanemura for the trouble. Hard hitting the rest of the way. Enjoyable and something to revisit.
  5. Hogan needed the belt back. That is the only logic that makes sense of any of this. Yes, Nash has Savage's back, but waits until he gets the shit kicked out of him to run in. I guess it was running, because the unintentional hilarious parts of this match were Nash, Hart, and Piper running to the ring. I can't decide who looks more embarrassing running to the ring. Top two titles both get ended after one day reigns. WCW. EDIT - I would have never known Bret was still in WCW if it wasn't for this, which IIRC, leads nowhere.
  6. Good match, not a classic, but one of those that fulfilled it's purpose perfectly. I wonder if the fans were plants or Raven had to tell them "Hey, throw me back over the rail"
  7. Jericho making sure the people don't forget about Malenko. Good stuff, but not as good as the previous stuff.
  8. The top angle in the promotion and I don't give two fucks about it. Nash is corny and Savage is hurting his legacy.
  9. Was the bell ringing supposed to be foreshadowing the PPV? Anyway, Austin makes good on his promise and whoops Vince and Dude's ass for a bit.
  10. Val Venis vingette's are easier to digest when there are women in them. Still, I hate everything Val Venis.
  11. Even on Austin's B-level promos he is as over as god is in the south.
  12. When Sawyer Brown is in the Smoky Mountain area, they watch Smoky Mountain wrestling! When they are in town with the WWE they make shitty music with Jeff Jarrett.
  13. I think Dude Love is just supposed to be obnoxious. It did serve a purpose though. This set got me to thinking Russo+McMahon = Dude Love and Russo by himself = That 70's Guy, Mike Awesome.
  14. Horrendous, but I'm repeating myself. I had forgot the title went to Savage before Hogan drops to Goldberg. Sting is done, a joke since Starrcade. Terrible ending made even worse by Disciple and Hogan snarling about Nash and Savage at the entrance. Completely worthless.
  15. Guess I was manipulated by my memory of the stagecoach spot making this out as a classic. I must have been thinking of something else as only the finish made it here (absent the spot I remembered) Typical Raven cluster with DDP losing so Goldberg can squash Raven the next night.
  16. Wasn't there a backstage fight between Nash and Piper after this match? They should hate each other cause this was horrible, even just seeing the ending. Nothing made sense, having a referee distracted in what is essentially a no DQ match always has been a pet peeve of mind. Just shitsville the entire way.
  17. This was Saturn as Manami Toyota - Go Go Go Go Go mixed with unique counters by Goldberg. I wonder if he planned this counters or it just seemed like a good thing to do at the time. The end had Goldberg beating the entire flock and a superior show of strength at the finish which made this fun to watch.
  18. I guess it's just me as BattleArts just doesn't cut it. While technically great, meaning nothing blown and crisp, it lacked drama and excitement (at least until after the bell). It's hard for me to take any match seriously with a basketball goal so prominently displayed in the background first of all. Second, this seemed to me like what collegiate wrestlers who watched one UFC PPV and then went into a ring to show what they saw mixed with their actual discipline would look like. I like actual shoot style more than this hybrid stuff.
  19. Loved the start of the match, the end of the match and the promo/angle after the match. The match itself was so depressing. Watching them punch each other for 5 minutes I really can't complain, but the aesthetics of it and the lack of heat killed it.
  20. Yes, Final confrontation was unintentionally funny. WWE Lawler in Memphis just doesn't do it for me. Every RNR promo is the same either Gibson starts it or ends it with little to say (barely comprehensible) and Morton acting like he's still in Crockett.
  21. 80's style in 1998, why wouldn't Corny be happy?
  22. I know he was excited, but with whatever issue he has going on, I sure don't want to hear him talk for extended periods of time.
  23. I enjoyed this a whole lot more than the January match. Seemed like the perfect time to make Akiyama, but I know the Dome was coming up and it had to be this way. However, what a hell of a way to setup a challenger for Kawada whom he had a good match with during this Carnival. Top level AJPW for 1998.
  24. Fun, and I thought surely it would pick up after the armbar on the floor, but ultimately it lead to nothing as Okutsu didn't sell it at all even though Futagami was destroying it. All the germans didn't get a pin, but the finishing kick did? Definitely a rewatch and despite my complaints, I enjoyed it.
  25. I'm beginning to think the mid-card stuff has the workers largely giving input to the bookers because it is the only stuff in WCW that is consistently good AND continuity. The main event stuff makes zero sense while you have Prince Iaukea coming out with the scale AND Eddy/Chavo progressing.
