Awful if Bret didn't know. Him bumping away Lawler was the highlight here and foreshadowing something that will happen later in the year.

I enjoyed this a lot although it is clearly a low level type gimmick. Still it fits Scotty well and we see a ton of Johnny Polo here.

http://placetobenation.com/ptbn-reaction-show-roh-13th-anniversary-show/ Will is joined by Kris Zellner and Dave & Dylan from the Wrestling Culture podcast to discuss the 13th Anniversary Show. We discuss the Bullet Club, AJ Styles, Alberto el Patron and the return of Samoa Joe! Was the main event bad enough to ruin a good show? Listen and find out!

Different from most comments here in that I thought this started out hot and then kind of staggered to the finish line. The pre match promos were great and set the stage. The match itself was hectic at the beginning and a ton of fun with plunder and weapons shot mixed in. Once they scaled up the basketball goal, it kind of sputtered. I did appreciate the fact that the brawl felt really different from the chain match we previously watched. Probably one of the top SMW shows in history. ***1/2

I understand the lack of curiosity of most people that watch wrestling at times. It's a viewpoint I don't agree with but I can accept. I can't accept though blindly propelling old opinions without conducting an individual investigation.

Not surprising but embarrassing nonetheless, in this day and age where youtube can be your friend, I really don't understand the position of not at least seeking out some of the highly touted Dandy stuff.

This was long but I was gripped the whole way through and once I realized how they were working, I was engaged to the finish. If 1994 was the year of the ladder match, 1993 has to be the year of the strap/chain match. This worked in the basic tropes but did them well and I really enjoyed the commentary from Lance and Les. As you knew you would get some blood and trickery with the finish, this also had a ton of grimy choking and stiff shots to give the match a more gory feel. Tracy winning gets a huge pop and he has established himself as a big star in SMW. ****1/4

This was good enough but when Santo getting his mask pulled doesn't' feel like the 5th most consequential thing that has happened in the last two hours of this disc chronologically, this match becomes a victim of positioning to a point. Still the heel trios here was good and whipping ass in the beginning and then taking over and Santo can give a really good fired up comeback as we know. Good stuff but not next level like the matches that preceded it. ***1/4

This right here was an amazing match that I really enjoyed tremendously. This had the hate of the other matches in the feud but also had a few other moments rather it be the Choshu blade job, the little kicks that are half insult, half brutal by Tenryu on the cut, and perhaps the best hot tag I have ever seen when Hashimoto comes in. Put on that a dynamic crowd with each team having its pocket of fans and a crackling finish and start with Hashimoto and Tenryu and you have a completely amazing tag match and low-end MOTYC in my opinion. ****1/2

Can't add much more to this other than it was a big batch of fun stuff and really neat to see the unheralded guys in the feud get a chance to shine. SSM was my highlight and has this moments throughout his career where he is completely great. Him being all pissed and entitled on the outside was an amazing moment to watch. This feud is tremendous. ***1/2

[1993-04-02-AJW-Dream Slam I] Akira Hokuto vs Shinobu Kandori
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1993
On an equivalent from an emotional level as Magnum vs. Tully. I also think it hits the same tones as something like Dump vs. Chigusa with better action overall. Amazing story and hate along with the overcoming of odds story that Hokuto goes through during the entire match. I think Kandori seriously may have a claim of most underrated worker of the 90's and she was always kind of spoken in 2nd tier range from most of the joshi hardcores online in the mid-2000's. From what we have seen on these sets, she has been fantastic. This is a match I always like more and more each time I watch and then ponder if I think if it is the greatest match of all time. It is that damn good. *****- 21 replies

Add Kansai and Aja to that list and you have my candidates although Toshie Uematsu is making a push.

I would have it slightly ahead of the WrestleWar match and just a step behind the Clash 6 match for me Parv. I have actually been thinking about this recently and if forced to pick my all time top 10 right now I think my list would look like this: Flair vs. Steamboat Clash 6 Magnum vs. Tully JUmbo vs. Tenryu 6/5/89 Misawa vs. Kawada 6/3/94 Misawa/Kobashi vs. Kawada/Taue 6/9/95 Misawa vs. Kobashi 1/20/97 Misawa/Akiyama vs. Kawada/Taue 12/6/96 Kandori vs. Hokuto Dream Slam Kansai/Ozaki vs. Toyota/Yamada Dream Rush Chicana vs. MS-1 1983

Great match. I love the Inoue's as a tag team and Ozaki is probably my favorite joshi worker ever at this point. The pace was frantic here but it did provide some good structure and double team moves and got over the inter promotional aspect of the show overall. A well executed showcase match on a loaded card. ****

This was fine but very forgettable and quick compared to the other WCW stuff so far this year. Disappointing given the talent involved. **1/4

[1993-03-27-WCW-Saturday Night] Maxx Payne's "Norma Jean's Blues"
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1993
Not a great video in my eyes as it looked dated for the 90's. Payne is never someone I have been able to get behind.- 7 replies

Curtis is neck and neck with Nick Patrick now as the best ref spot of the 90's. Good to see Eaton win here.

[1993-03-27-SMW-TV] Interview: Arn Anderson & Rock & Roll Express
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1993
Arn is pretty good with the RNR to have a mouth piece that can match Cornette and Dutch, its pretty brilliant really. Good hype for the upcoming big show. -
I would start with Brisco regaining the title. They kind of lucked into something with him not getting pinned but now they are playing that up appropriately and stuff seems to be more focused after Final Battle.
-
Another cool Sullivan segment, SMW is on a roll so far. Dutch and Sullivan interact with each other well and their personalities align perfectly.

Awesome stuff with DWB showing how dangerous the chain can be chopping up various items. SMW has never really struck me as it has so far in 1993 as all of the big angles are really cultivating to me.
