Arn seemed due to come out once a year and tear the house down with a heartfelt promo. This was incredible and Arn taking off his shirt to show his sacrifice and physical toll was heart breaking and inspiring all the same. WCW still has some hope at this point with the Goldberg title win and this stuff leading the charge.

I stand by my statement previously as Hall comes out and rambles on and doesn't add much of note. The window was closed on this being a money feud.
-
I did like the sit down aspect of this and the gravity Nash speaks but Hall doesn't seem able to hold his end of the bargain.

Bagwell is looking like a great babyface in the making still getting a good reaction in Vegas and interacting with Hogan. How did they botch this so bad?

Jericho takes advantage again. This is all good fun but does feel like Jericho is being able to get one over on the promotion one too many times. JJ looks like an idiot too.

Unmitigated disaster. This crowd was dreadful all night but the booking was destined to fail here as everything took so long to come together. They tried to milk every altercation but it fell flat. Rodman looked really disinterested at times and his sequence with DDP was so awful. I also didn't enjoy the finish at all as Hogan and Rodman win and get one over on DDP with the Disciple who know one cares about. Bad omen of big WCW matches since Starrcade. (*1/2)

Couple running thoughts on this. The analogy of the first part of All Japan 1990 being an after Christmas hangover is spot on. There is still some good stuff there, but it is a drop off from the 1989 run. I dont think Tenryu was ever going to be seen as the "ace", that was Jumbo's spot. The 1989 feud was just to prove that Tenryu could be on his level. My star ratings and overall match ratings in 1990 for the series of matches watched tonight: 05/26/90 - Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi & Akira Taue vs Jumbo Tsuruta, Kabuki & Masa Fuchi ****1/4 and #20 for the year 06/08/90 - Mitsuharu Misawa vs Jumbo Tsuruta ****1/2 and #8 for the year 09/01/90 - Mitsuharu Misawa vs Jumbo Tsuruta ***** and #3 for the year. For comparison, I have rewatched most of the big All Japan 90''s matches again in the past three years and this match has stood up as one of the best ones throughout. Off the top of my head, I think this is the best match the promotion has until 12/3/93. 09/30/90 - Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Akira Taue ****3/4 and #6 for the year. Anyone that watches this and wants to fill in the gaps, I would recommend: Toshiaki Kawada vs. Kenta Kobashi (AJPW 6/30/90) Mitsuharu Misawa & Toshiaki Kawada vs. Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu (AJPW 7/7/90) Masa Fuchi vs. Tsuyoshi Kikuchi (AJPW 7/12/90) Stan Hansen vs. Mitsuharu Misawa (AJPW 7/28/90) Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi vs. Jumbo Tsuruta, Akira Taue & Masa Fuchi (AJPW 8/18/90) Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Kenta Kobashi (AJPW 8/31/90) I liked the analysis on Taue and was pleased to see you enjoying their budding feud together as it provides a nice contrast to the Jumbo vs. Misawa stuff that is going on. Excited for show #2.

Running thoughts. I like using a show as a benchmark and choosing SummerSlam 2002 was a good choice. Really good stuff up and down the card and a show that looks good from historical significance too. GAB 89 is one I do like better than SS 02 but I do see the lack of finishes as an argument to have SS 02 ahead. Still I prefer Funk vs. Flair to HHH vs. Shawn and have all of the last four matches of GAB 89 at **** or above. SS1991 is an interesting choice as its the ultimate sum is better than each individual part but you did a good job picking away the flaws and I would have SS 02 ahead of it. RR 92 is the best Rumble ever but besides that, the Piper moment and the fun opener, there isn't a whole lot. Good show for sure, but not a show I see as GOAT. ONS is a show I know I will be down on more than most. Its super nostalgia, but at the end of the day, nostalgia. Badd Blodd 97 was one of the more odd choices as I can think of 25-30 PPV's I like better than that one. Fully Loaded 99 is an even odder choice as it doesn't even have a MOTYC choice like Badd Blood. I would take Night of Champions 2014 over Fully Loaded 1999 Spring Stampede 1999 being the last swing of the company was a great line. Spring Stampede 1994 would probably be my pick overall and a card I really adore. Invasion is another odd choice to me. All of the 2000 WWF shows being discussed throughout was well done. Overall this was my favorite shows you guys have done. The roundtable felt more lively with everyone interjecting in at appropriate points.

Titus has been a ton of fun on the Superstar matches I have seeked out after Lanza pushed Slator Gator. I hope on NXT he is able to develop and shine and think a program vs. Steen would be a ton of fun.

Not close minded I have watched a lot of Jimmy's work over the years and most likely more of his recent work than anyone here. It isn't perceived though it is an actuality. The Devitt experience along with other stuff leads me to believe that it would be a pretty pointless exercise due to the biases and close mindedness of some prominent posters. Not interested in another hounding due to be posting a well heeled or largely held opinion outside of the general PWO bubble either. This was not a question of how close minded Rovert is? You made a generalization about the DVDVR board as a whole and lumped this one into it by association. Have you watched more Jimmy Jacobs matches more than me this year? Good possibility, although I have seen all of his ROH output. Saying fairly definitively you have watched more is a close minded, attitudinal stance. Beyond those confines, stating your personal habits against an statement you started against an entire community is not a verifiable defense. All I was bringing to your attention was that you lambast one choice as being bizarre and off the beaten path and then say the same source is closeminded two paragraphs later. Which is it? Can't it be both with Jimmy Jacobs being a rare exception? I like PWO a lot and I think Greatest Wrestler Ever is good idea as it is a bit of fun and stimulates discussion on a message board. But it will be hardly held as definitive (relatively) given the points I and others have already made. It won't be the farce the WKO is but the scope in terms of the range of Wrestlers will be far more narrower than it should be. With the winner derived from an already pre-approved list of PWO favorites. I don't think anyone is calling it the be all end all list but I do know Grimmas is hoping for all corners to participate to gain an eclectic vote overall. Flik voted Hayabusa #1 overall last time. Can't get more contrary than that. Not close minded I have watched a lot of Jimmy's work over the years and most likely more of his recent work than anyone here. Not interested in another hounding due to be posting a well heeled or largely held opinion outside of the general PWO bubble either. If I'm remembering correctly: you said that Devitt was well respected but when you were asked to post your opinion of Devitt or write something about matches of his you liked you acted as if you were being attacked. The Devitt argument bothers me because no one can be the definitive source on what an opinion is on a giving individual. There is corners in the net where I get tagged in posts involving Devitt, was mocked openly on podcasts about him and got tagged in posts regarding his name change. I do enjoy his work overall and am intrigued of how he transitions to the WWE.

to be fair, people like bryan & punk aren't really seen as "indie" guys anymore since they made it on the biggest stage i think joe & rovert are referring more to post-"peak ROH" indies, and would agree that this is a major blind spot for this site. i do see a tendency on here to assume that indie wrestling jumped the shark after punk & bryan left, with comments like "indie wrestling is so mid-2000s". there are people like bill & dylan who keep up with today's stuff, but they don't post a whole lot about it here (i know dylan does elsewhere at least) and i would really like to see them do so. not sure how feasible that is with the top 100 project though... This still doesn't address the question though that in the confines of the Top 100 project, anyone can be nominated. If you want to present a case for someone not on the list, go for it. The "bias" of the board can't be brought to the forefront until the voting takes place from the nominated pool. I really think the bias against current indies is one of the worst misconceptions. People like Parv don't watch the modern product and he admits that. In this thread, he was admonished by me and others who do watch the current product. Is the indy scene right now a period of wrestling I enjoy better than 90's All Japan 2003 IWA-MS or 80's NWA? Fuck no, but it there is a lot of good stuff and workers out there that have gotten a multitude of praise on this board including Sami Callihan, Thatcher, Briscos.

Rey looks banged up still and Jericho has one of his sloppy nights in a big stop resulting in a less than stellar looking match with again no heat. Rey rolls up Jericho with a distraction from malenko and wins the belt to a decent pop. Afterwards, Malenko gives chase and Jericho is halted by Arn Anderson allowing Malenko to beat him up.

Chavo submits after some dancing around to Stevie Ray to save himself for Eddy.. Brilliant (DUD) Unfortunately, the crowd doesn't care about Eddy vs. Chavo as the clips and finish looked pretty hot. I initially thought Chavo wasn't appealing to them enough but he does when he grabs the scissors and still gets no reaction. Chavo loses and shaves his own head again to no reaction freaking Eddy out. I enjoyed this to an extent.

This was actually my favorite of these as it felt more like a stand alone angle than a ripoff of Austin vs. Vince. Lawler cut one hell of a promo and the whole scene carried a very chaotic tone.
-
I guess this wasn't a match. Anyway, this was better than the recent ECW stuff to me and I did like how hook, line and sinker the crowd fell for the Funk fakeout. The intros then by Gertner wouldn't end. Remember Kronus? We then get the generic New Jack style brawl but Bubba had some fun bumps and Victory takes a nice guitar shot. Taz attacks Douglas in the booth. They really built up their Guilty as Charged 1999 match but damn I don't care about it. Dreamer has barbed wire for the first time in New York and uses it to get some revenge on behalf of Beulah.

Awesome bit of Eddy congratulating Goldberg and then him segueing that into his upcoming hair vs. hair match with Chavo. Really strong promo by Eddy reigning this program back in and making it more serious.

Mable was still around???? I love VInce and Austin on commentary on off weeks keeping them in the mix without overdoing it. This was a pretty interesting set up and good reveal of Taker although who knows what happened with Kane. At least Bearer walked out with vince which is a good bit of cohesive storytelling that probably wouldn't occur now. Taker is now the #1 contender and a showdown with Austin is brewing. 1/4 *

This isn't helpful either, because it's a huge generalization and untrue. The GOAT nomination thread is already full of guys who made their bones on the recent indy scene. They are mostly bizarre nonsense picks like Jimmy Jacobs though. Who despite being in a prominent faction in nearly every Indy promotion in North America never has matches that anyone in realistic terms talks about. Outside of the ROH Pursuit: Night 1 where Jimmy admirably busted a gut to keep up with Adam Cole I don't remember a match of his in recent memory that has gotten any kind of talk. Jacobs seems like a nice guy and his character work from mid to late 00s held up really well when I rewatched it last year but come on. What I said was a generalisation but it is more of an accurate one than not. DVDR was once an open minded and influential place. Now mostly it is mostly Raw watchers and shitting on Indie workers as they didn't work for Jim Crockett. Someone went full Matt D on me recently on DVDR due to me posting that Sami Zayn/El Generico is an all time great worker on the basis he has a name among fans and in the industry of legitimately never having a bad match. Realistically there's probably two matches. He is another guy who has travelled the world, learnt, adapted and got over. The poster then followed me around from thread to thread. Who besides Jacobs and Necro Butcher (both Phil nominations) are of the more bizarre, nonsense variety. The beauty of the GOAT project is that YOU can nominate anyone as long as you have three match reviews to provide as recommendations. The onus is on you to present a guy for a case, not the other way around. Secondly, in that thread, comments have been positive for Bryan in general including some possible #1 votes. Other threads have also had positive comments on the debate. Excluding all of that, why claim DVDVR as not being open minded while saying that the Jacobs pick is bizarre and nonsense. Isn't that more close minded than the other indy fans from the time frame including someone like Joe who flat out said he wasn't seeking a brawl in the middle of an ROH show.

I have liked most of the DX stuff but this wasn't good and instead of finding the tones that the Horseman parody did even if it was mean, this was just blatant racism for most parts of it. HHH doesn't look very cool here to me.

Enjoyed this latest entry and I think you guys portrayed some of the perils with this section well. If I was a voter, I would love to vote for Colon but I have been critical of some people voting in lucha and Japan that I don't think are experts. I am obviously weak on numerous candidates in this field so as a result using my own logic, Colon would be a victim of cirucmstance.
