This was so more good promotion for the big Bash main event. Hogan laughing at Malone's jabs were the highlight for me.

This does feel pretty big for WCW as they had these big basketball stars on the top late night show on TV cutting an angle. Malone seems uncomfortable doing this at this point but having a bit of fun. Glad to see DDP get a big opportunity.

Yeah, I thought the production on this one looked real shoddy with the Nevermore graphic. Still don't feel like Raven has found himself truly in WCW.

Super great match with a frantic, innovative pace but enough storytelling to keep everything bound together. These joshi nuggets have become with shoot style my favorite thing in watching the yearbooks as it is workers I am unfamilar with and they instantly become one of my favorites. Toshie has now been involved in this type of match two years in a row. (****1/4)

Bring me more of this please. This feels like a good companion piece for arguments in the GOAT project for both as Aja performs a different style in this match and Yoshida was learning to reinvent herself. I loved Aja not realizing initially she was in a different type of fight as she dares Yoshida to get with her on the mat. Yoshida looked confident but Aja still has the size and power advantage. Good cat and mouse at the end with Yoshida able to hold on for the time limit draw after the spinning back fist nearfall. This gave her the moral victory. (***1/2)

Im really shocked at that result and wonder if it was just on the strength of big Japanese name some voters recognized. Having said that, I have a pretty good soft spot for Baba and think he was good even up to his limited role in the late 90's. He has some spry stuff from his 70's and 80's. I especially liked the big time nature of his series with Hansen of him protecting the natives spot and then we get the old guy phase of Baba's career with him as a thorn in the side of the up and comers and duking it out with other legends. He will be low on my ballot but I would be real surprised if he doesn't make it.

Dylan, has anyone had their argument enhanced strongly by an ECW run? I haven't seen it used as a positive so far here. I would argue a vote for Smothers would have a big emphasis on ECW. Bigelow too if you are inclined to vote for him.

Never asked but how recently have you watched those hyped 80's All Japan tags Joe? Yatsu being so offensive minded during those matches feels like a wrestler you would get really behind.
-
You for sure need to check out the chain match vs. Bull from July 1994. Kandori is someone I want to seek out more of as more often than not, she really shines on her stuff that has made the yearbook.
-
To me the case against Yatsu is that he falls off a cliff hard and fast once the 1990's hit. He has some sprinkling of good matches in 1990 and 1991 as he was hanging on but is pretty much a nonfactor by 1993. Shocking considering he is still damn good in the 1989 RWTL. He will be in debate for me but I can see him being a casualty of too short a peak.

1. Joshi 2. WOS 3. Pre 1980's stuff (watched bits a pieces here but would like to take in whole time frame and see where people like Dory, Destroyer etc feel right in being ranked) 4. 2000's indies (mainly for Bryan, Hero, Punk, Claudio) 5. rewatch the big All Japan stuff (good shot that Jumbo, Tenryu, Misawa, Kobashi, Kawada all are in my top 10-15) 6. Kurt Angle, HBK and Bret Hart matches

I like the 1990 New Japan multiman match a smidge more but this was a shitload of fun and featured everything I like in these types of matches. Some new feuds occurring, old feuds rekindled and uncharacteristic guys getting a chance to shine. Fuji is that guy here as his strikes aren't as stiff and on point as anyone else in the match but he makes up for it with his enthusiasm. Him getting the win was a supremely satisfying moment. Fun, B-show feeling match that is not a knock as I like seeing the case for Tanaka being a name for the promotion that can handle the top spot by how he works with guys like Kuroda. Kuroda got a good bit of offense in and they mixed up opening wrestling, some crowd brawling including the running knee from Kuroda in Korakuen which is a spot that always pops me and a hot finish with Kuroda getting some hope spots but put away with the Sliding D in the end. This stream of consciousness with the editing and trying to bring everyone on the roster together doesn't work for me. I watched this segment 6 hours again and can't remember a thing about it.

I guess Cages were popular on this Monday night. Holy shit does WCW need to learn how to film this ans the pixels on my tv were going wild. This was a big time match and had some glimpses of what made their 1997 feud a lot of fun and memorable 17 years later. However, this also felt like Savage was really limited, DDP was pretty uninterested for some reason and Piper again needs to go the fuck away forever. Piper then fights DDP. Holy shit, what a disaster. Hollywood NWO comes down and Hennig has already turned again. Who would trust this guy? They beat up both in the cage until Nash makes the dumbest face imaginable to show he knows how to raise a cage as the show goes off the air. (**)

I thought the brawl here was more heated than the night before but I will be a broken record and say I am done with this feud and want both men to move onto something else.

As soon as they focused on Bearer locking the cage, I knew where we were headed. Bearer cant really bump to well given his size but he does try and is willing to blade to get it over. The moment of Austin stomping after Kane on top of the cell with the crowd going nuts is an iconic looking shot. This seemed like a less than great Raw though and that was because we didn't see one man, Mr. McMAHON.

Pleasantly surprised to see them actually wrestle each other. Some nice stuff but three minutes in The Rock interrupts allowing Owen to run in and crotch Pac on the guardrail. This gives HHH the countout win but he is more concerned about his stable mate. (*)

We get some strategy sessions with DX on what will happen when Xpac and HHH face off tonight.
-
I liked the finish too as it was an effective way to chop down The Giant while still making him look strong. Sting is now the tag champ and we don't know who is partner will be.
