Looked like Douglas got pelted with a drink coming out to the ring. How expensive would the hotline bill be to listen to the play by play of Lance Russel on a Sunday Night? Good match but didn't break any new ground with these teams. Feels good to have the RXR/MX back though and I look forward to the next chapter in their feud. Douglas/Ace look to about be at the end of the road here.

[1990-01-27-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Interview: Four Horsemen
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
How many hair spray cans were used on the hair of the Horseman women. I like the ongoing theme of business vs. pleasure with the Horseman. Woman does a great promo again offering services to Flair. -
[1990-01-27-NWA-Worldwide] Funk's Grill: Theodore R. Long & Mark Callous
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Taker makes his debut in WCW and Funk just came from a funeral judging by his attire. Funk's dance moves leave a lot to be desired but the reaction shots of Mark are funny. -
Dont know how this turns out but I can imagine the christie Brinkley photo may be coming next on the Hoosierdome big screen after the Liz/Flair photos.

[1990-01-27-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Robert Fuller & Brian Lee
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Columbus, GA is pretty sketchy so I am not surprised the Georgia Peach sylvia fits right in. The crowd turning on Fullers serenading is awesome and pretty intelligent on their part to go along with the angle. Dundee's crocodile tears slayed me. The star search is on.- 17 replies

Real quick promo from Dibiase in the gym gearing up for Jake. Looks like I failed to remember how hyped Jake/Dibiase was going into Wrestlemania.

[1990-01-26-USWA Texas] Jeff Jarrett vs Billy Joe Travis (Guitar on a Pole)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
God bless Loss for this USWA TX stuff with the longer tv matches as it is paying dividends already. This was a great brawl with huge bumping by Travis. I really want to see the Dundee/Travis match now seeing how good Travis works in these type of matches. I thought for a second Lawler might turn on Travis when he had the guitar in his hand and kept directing traffic. The post match beatdowns was a wild scene.- 18 replies

What a match. Great heat and the face Horseman trio has the crowd going into a frenzy. As disappointing it was to see Flair turn heel in 1994 vs. Hogan, from what I have seen so far this year, I will be even more saddened in 1990. The FIP stuff he did here was good and not a role you often see him in. Sting also looked amazing and hit every move well. The shoulder tackle inside the ring with the crowd jumping and losing it will be tough to forget as the year progresses. January 1990 WCW has been amazing.

All Japan so far this year has been kind of funky and not really hitting the mark with me. Tenryu/Jumbo hate each other and ringside gets cleared out with every match. This was a weird venue.

[1990-01-22-WWF-Miami, FL] Randy Savage vs Roddy Piper
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Piper and Sherri are always great interacting with each other and this match featured a lot of graphic sherri shots including a close up on her ass when her dress came up. Someone alert Doc Sarpolis of this. The action after Savage teased running to the back was pretty bad but the airplane spot was cool and finish was predictably fun. Loss idea for WM 6 match ups sounds like a good alternative.- 17 replies

[1990-WWF] "So Close To The Real Thing, It's Like Being In The Ring!"
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
This commercial is one of my first wrestling memories ever so that holds a special place in my heart and pausing the video confirmed that I owned all the figures shown as well as the ring. Still saddened that one of the arms on my Andre figure fell off.- 25 replies

This was not as good as I remembered. Even the Warrior/Hogan exchange didn't seem as magical although that could just be a numbing of the impact due to the amount of times I have seen that sequence. Hogan vs. Perfect at the end was sad and a foregone conclusion on who was going over.

[1990-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Ron Garvin vs Greg Valentine
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Kind of side with Kevin on some of the later pinfall attempts. I can appreciate them in the context of learning the style of the match or to break up a submission attempt but to continuously go for a pin without any context is strange. I also think Garvins stooge faces in the figure four was stupid but otherwise this had more gritty intense moments than you are used to seeing on WWF tv and PPV from this era. I loved the way they laid into each other and the match was very good despite some obvious flaws in my opinion.- 35 replies

[1990-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Interview: Heenan Family

Kevin beat me to the punch as Mooney did a spot on Okerlund stirring the pot. I love these little segments based on how everyone acts.- 13 replies

[1990-01-21-WWF-Royal Rumble] Brutus Beefcake vs The Genius
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Still always weird to hear Tony on WWF PPV. We get some good interaction with him and Jesse here and I always love Jesse freaking out over Brutus cutting someone's hair. Brutus looks like an idiot with the Perfect run in which is par the course for him.- 18 replies

[1990-01-21-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Ultimate Warrior
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
I thought Warriors analogies worked well here especially the writing of the wall for the history books one for Hogan. Will be interesting to see if as this program advances if Warriors mic work is above average because the only promo I can recall off hand is the completely bonkers one from Wrestlemania in the locker room.- 15 replies

I thought this was surprisingly loads of fun and really showed Lawler doing is best to make something out of JYD. He knew he was going to have to do about 95% of the work to get this match over and he is game. I enjoyed Marc outsmarting Terrence into admitting Lawler was using the chain.

[1990-01-20-USWA-Memphis TV] Music Video: Jeff Jarrett
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Really trying to get over the sex appeal of Jarrett here with him removing the towel and what not. I laughed at the car Jarrett was driving and the appearance of him leaving his house considering what his living arrangements probably were at the time if he was out on his own. Apparently live is going good at this point of time for ol Double J.- 18 replies

[1990-01-20-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler / Interview: Junkyard Dog

Nothing too memorable but an effective job of hyping up their upcoming match together and good reintroduction of JYD to the territory.- 14 replies

Guess Dave is more savvy as Lawler gives him credit for since he must have made a copy of the promo tape from JYD.

[1990-01-20-WWF-Superstars] Jake Roberts and Ted DiBiase

Really neat character development segment that only lasts about two minutes. Dibiase slapping Virgil then whipping out the bills was great. Virgil jumping out of the ring looked very believable as well.- 16 replies

[1990-01-20-WWF-Superstars] Royal Rumble Report w/Gene Okerlund
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Yeah I love these reports and they bring a big meaning to the show. I don't know if it would be effective now but I am sure as a kid I could have convinced myself that Andre would have had a shot at winning this thing.- 16 replies

Yeah I was shocked at how they played out the finish of the Rumble ahead of time here. I also didn't realize that Hogan/Warrior was teased so much which really loses some of the organic feeling I had associated with the Rumble interaction. I do enjoy Hogan mimicking brother love though.

I enjoyed Tenryu's demeanor and him gradually going over the edge and then flipping his shit but I struggled to connect to the match as a whole. Kawada brought nothing to the table and Takagi is just not as good as others to take the punk beating from Tenryu. It is kind of alarming watching these first few matches of All Japan on how risky it may end up being for them to thrust Misawa/Kawada into the spotlight in 6 months time. They each have shown moments of brilliance up to this time but neither has struck me as a consistent worker yet or extremely reliable in big situations.
