  1. Good body work control match from these two and I can get behind, tv champion defense of the week Arn Anderson. The commentary with Ross and Cornette was also entertaining sprinkling in macro issues with the psychology of the match well. The post shot Buzz gives Arn looked stiff as hell and Muta still has a huge presence when he runs out and mists Arn.
  2. I was a alarmed at how Austin sounded but this was even more jolting as cactus sounds totally different and like a 12 year old in a Christmas church play getting stage fright. Still neat to see him and Funk interacting this early on and Funk does a decent job getting over the danger of Cactus' character.
  3. Holy shit I loved this. Great comedy spots in the beginning and good protection of guys away from each other. Travis' "tree falling in the woods" bumps are amazing. The beatdown on Adams was effective and Gary and Travis mainly kept the action going. Akbar was pretty bad in this but mostly stayed out of the way. I thought Lowerence actually did a good job on commentary first getting over that Embry and Toni have conflicting feelings because Embry wants to win the match and Toni is worried about Chris' well being and 2nd that Chris Adams has a short fuse that is set to go off at any time. The heels cheering on Adams/Embry going at it is glorious especially Gorgeous Gary's shit eating grin. The pull apart was real intense and I cant wait to see where all of this is leading to.
  4. This would have been on the verge of a great match with some editing. It did have a unique finish and a big main event feel. I also enjoyed Maeda's strategy for the most part and the crab looked brutal. Takada really playing up the win also solidified the magnitude of the victory. Good match that could have been much better with a few subtractions.
  5. Two guys I'm not all that familiar with and enjoyed the match. There was a lot of jockeying for position and submissions on the mat but it was mixed in with some brutal strikes especially from Anjoh.
  6. Hollinger, Lucha is notorious for having panning crowd shots that can be distracting to the flow of the match. Someone with more knowledge can chime in to say whether this has more significance than just an artistic choice on how wrestling is presented in Mexico.
  7. This match seemed to take the Twin Towers/Rockers WM 5 template and perfect it. Just awesome bumping and selling from the Rockers making the POP look brutal with every shot. The heat on Marty went just the right amount of time before the POP had to recycle stuff or get blown up. I agree with Childs that the finish while seeming like too little on the surface actually makes a lot of sense in the context of the story they were telling. Wonderfully fun tag match.
  8. This seemed like the AMC/Dish Network dispute of 1990.
  9. Really cool match with Tenryu being the ultimate prick to Misawa and me cheering on Jumbo being the big brother defender. I think on the All Japan set it was easy in some ways in 1989 to see Jumbo as sort of whiny and annoying in instances but here he played his role affectively and I did enjoy how he was the one to inflict the ending match crab.
  10. Both commentators did good of getting over Cactus and his move set. One thing I thought was interesting was how crazy the bumps Cactus was taking and that Sullivan was talking about how he wont live to be an old man. Foley is by no means elderly now and it is sad that he cant tie his own shoes but he does seem to have aged better than a lot of other people and this match is 22 years old. Cactus elbow looked good for the finish.
  11. These three interacting with each other is a great treat and they all play their roles perfectly. I love how babyface Flair can still get over the playboy persona.
  12. Lawler talking about the person liking his chin so much he got 4 of them was a legit lol moment for me. Best fan interaction on a yearbook so far.
  13. Austin really sounded different and it can't be stated how glorious Champion's hair is. We get some more racist comments from Lawler and he iinsuiates that Cobra had never had $1000 in his life except maybe when he was champion. I also enjoyed Dutch saying that he hoped Lawler would bring that phone to ringside to call 911 when he gets done with him.
  14. Lawler really drew out the phone bit in kind of a brillant fashion. I am so intriqued that we get to see him weekly throughout the year as in his first two appearances it really looks like Lawler unfiltered stuff.
  15. Very fun tv match with Muta showing some mystique and working great kicks into his offense. Buzz Sawyer was also entertaining at ringside and offers a challenge to Arn and his newly won title. This was probably around the time I started watching Power Hour as a kid after Bonanza but I don't have any memories right off hand until 1991. It will be interesting as we go along to see if something pops up that I can vaguely remember.
  16. How famous was this match because I had never heard of it before but thought it was excellent and not far removed from the Zbysko/Regal SN match or any other match that gets touted up as the best tv matches. Eaton was a bumping machine and Flair works his babyface role well and the payoff for him using the racket to win makes complete sense and works overall with Flair's character. Just a wonderful match that made me look forward to 1990 WCW.
  17. Welcome to the forums Superstar... I can certainly relate to being a broke college student as I have just escaped all of my debt this year which has allowed me to take the plunge in the past two yearbooks. I could only con my parents out of so much money for alcohol and wrestling while in college.
  18. That was a freaking awesome read featuring a multitude of stuff I didn't know.
  19. Pretty good fired up Dundee promo and I loved the woman line after seeing Travis in the robe. The video with Travis was real effective in getting over what his character was all about and his singing and gyrating was annoying.
  20. Really good debate between two excellent mic men. You associate Funk and SUllivan with chaos and brawling but there was something poignant about them being in suits and having a well thought out discussion.
  21. Macho King does feel a little midcardish but damn if Savage didn't play it for everything he had. Real good promo mixing in different angles and events like the Royal Rumble and I always love Gene's and Sherri's interactions.
  22. I didn't think i would care for face Horseman but it works here and Sting does seem to belong. Looking forward to seeing the turn and the good along with the bad that the angle will bring in 1990.
  23. The wrestler of the year trophy is a nice piece of hardware and Flair does an effective job showing its prestige.
  24. Sting is the newest member of the Horseman... why do I get the feeling this wont turn out so well.
  25. Never been a fan of Norman and this seemed like a pretty big mess. Sullivan with the beatdown was ok but I did not get much of a sense of sympathy for Norman. Woman looked pretty smoking here though.
