[1994-10-15-WCW-Saturday Night] Ric Flair career retrospective
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1994
Amazing video package that made Flair out like the legend he wanted to be. Only thing I didn't like was the black and white graphics with weird writing like He Cheats! on them but the clips of the promos and matches were incredible.- 8 replies

New Jack and Ricky Morton trade intense promos and the vendetta is getting more personal between them. The cornette/Armstrong segment was nice but it seems like Bob under - reached when Cornette said he could have anything he wants and he responds to get him to kiss his feet. Cactus looks genuinely happy to be gone from WCW and cuts a nice promo here about Boo Bradley.

[1994-10-15-WWF-Superstars] Bob Backlund and Arnold Skaaland
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1994
Another wonderful Backlund segment with an out of control feel you just were not getting from WWF at this time. Vince's suit looks straight out of 1987. I enjoyed how lawler refused to help pull Backlund off like savage did previously. -
[1994-10-14-CMLL] Emilio Charles Jr vs Miguel Perez Jr (Hair vs Hair)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1994
Couldn't get into this at all. Moves looked nice but the three things I look in lucha are great brawling, mat wrestling, or highspots and this didn't have any of those. Perez does throw great punches but everything else he does doesn't connect for me and his facial expressions are so passive and stoic.- 5 replies

[1994-10-14-UWFi-The King's Road: Osaka] Nobuhiko Takada vs Naoki Sano

Fantastic match mixing in slick work with great drama. Takada has had a good year working with some excellent opponents.- 6 replies

It was a lot of fun doing this show and I think overall Starrcade 83 has numerous more talking points and areas of analysis than many of the super shows up until 1987 or so. Had fun doing this with Parv and look forward to episodes in the future.

Good promo by Bourne and I love the Doink inflections he was doing.

T looks really dated and there was no tie in between training and being a ref.

Everyone was on here as the only two botches I could recall was Kyoko headscissors from the middle rope and Takaka mis timing int he final fall. Everything else was done well and the final fall was my favorite fall with everyone showing desperation and the Inoues accomplishing their goals and ending the reign. The look Takaka have is equal parts evil and satisfying. Great match overall.

Gangsters video was awesome with all the reaction shots. Morton gives an inspired program vowing revenge. The anderson's talk some more without too much to add to what they said last week. Gibson actually has a spirited pull apart with new Jack and does a great job emptying out the locker room. Good SMW episode.

[1994-10-08-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler vs Doug Gilbert (Mask vs Crown)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1994
Really short match where we get the first glimpse of a relatively bald Doug Gilbert. -
One thing I love about the yearbooks is getting all the highlights from a USWA show in 10 minutes. Sid's powerbomb looks good, Rich does a good gloating promo, Dave gets pissed at Bowden saying retarded and we get a pull apart with Hales/Bowden, and finally Sid goofs up on the mic like I have been waiting for all along but Lawler saves it. Looked like a fun hour of tv.

Didn't really care for the Razor commercial and don't see "put your faith in us" as a great tag line Another real world tie in with the baseball strike thing. Real world tie ins in wrestling are like the twitter craze in a 1994 setting. Heartbreak Hotel was one of the best one yet due to Backlund being a prick and not straying to the hotel puns. It is really crazy to think about how little of Shawn we have had wrestling this year on the yearbook.

Great heavyweight slugfest that really portrayed Allbright as a monster. Him going toe to toe with Vader and throwing suplexs at the end was awesome. They built up to that encounter throughout the match too wonderfully. Yamazaki took a beating and Tenta did a great job mixing in charisma and crowd reactions for his lack of execution on the mat. Can't wait to watch the rematch to see if it is worthy of consideration for the supplemental set.

Ten minutes chopped off would have been better served. Going to a draw can serve its purpose but in shoot style matches and this one especially it felt like we got everything they had in the arsenal within the first 8 minutes, this was followed by a middling 10 minutes with restarts leading to a hot finish for the draw. Good match and stiff action just lacking cohesive structure to sustain interest for 20 minutes.

Best part of this feud so far. Styles is awful showing sympathy for the Sandman talking about how Dreamer will have to live with what he has done. You didn't see magnum TA crying about injuring Tully so I don't know what someone that has been constantly beat up with a cane and weapons should feel bad about using it. Backstage the scene gets more chaotic.

[1994-10-02-WCW-Main Event] Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Dave Sullivan & Mr T
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1994
The 700lb giant line got a laugh out of me. Everything else made me sad. Who was the masked man here when Brutus runs out? I just hate the mix of comedy with Dave mixed in with what they are trying to present as the biggest match of all time.- 7 replies

[1994-10-01-USWA-TV] Interview: Doug Gilbert / Interview: Tommy Rich
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in October 1994
A pair of really good promos especially from Rich. Rich is able to rile the crowd up into a frenzy. -
It feels like these guys have a classic brawl in them and while this was better than the previous match this wasn't it. The match lost heat periodically. Some of the bumps were brutal.
