Benoit put together a great performance here, bumping like it was no ones business. The release suplex was great and then he did a good job working Sid's knee. The locker room coming out to witness the match is always a nice touch esspecially for this big moment. It is amazing WCW let him walk right after that. ****

[2000-01-21-ECW-TNN] Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Super Crazy (Mexican Death)
tbrett replied to Grimmas's topic in January 2000
This was awesome. Tajiri was out for blood and was just killing Super Crazy his kicks were great and he had the crowd at the tip of his fingers. The spot with Tajiri throwing the chairs down the table were great. Then a good come back from Super Crazy with great spots the moonsault from the bleachers, from someone who didn't really enjoy the Tajiri vs. Super Crazy matches for most of 1999, this was fantastic. **** -
[2000-01-23-WWF-Royal Rumble] HHH vs Cactus Jack (Street Fight)
tbrett replied to Superstar Sleeze's topic in January 2000
All-time classic. Convinced me HHH was a legitimate champion, brought Mick Foley to another level in the WWE, plus one of the more brutal matches WWE has ever had. ***** -
Love this match. I remember I didn't think the Dudleys were going to make it in the WWE and then this match put them on the map in the WWE. Good idea to make sure that you had to put both members members of the team through the tables consecutively which made sure they could do way more spots. Not an all-time classic but a really good match with great entertainment value. ****

I had never seen this match before and hadn't really heard about it until I read this thread. I gave it a shot and I thought it was good but nothing special. My expectations might have been too high going into the match. The story was great but I agree about Misawa not selling the arm hurt the match. They did all of that work to work the arm and make it seem like Hase had a chance only for Misawa to continue using the elbow without any ill effects.

Echo a lot of the same comments that have already been made. CIMA was great, his interaction with the crowd in the intro was great and his execution was good. I thought it was a good match but not great, part of it I didn't really like Fujita here. I didn't buy his offense, but CIMA was great. ***1/2

I enjoyed this one, the fast paced start was good but the middle of the match could have used some work. Overall I think it is hard for these two to have a bad match. ***3/4

[2000-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World 2000] Keiji Muto vs Masa Chono
tbrett replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
These two work so well together. I really enjoyed the match, not their best but still very good. I liked how they countered each others signature moves, showing how well these two know each other. I agree with most of the comments about the beginning being slow but they built the match well from there. **** -
Really great Lucha match. I don't usually like Lucha as much as other people so my expectations going into the match were not great, but I could tell that I was going to like this match after the first fall. The match was fast paced, action packed, and really well exeuted. There was much more hate between these two than I am used to in Lucha and the falls made more sense to me than previous Lucha I have seen. I would say this is one of my favority Lucha matches I have ever seen and I will definately seek out more Rey Bucanero during this project simply because of this match. ****

[2000-01-09-ECW-Guilty as Charged] Sabu vs Rob Van Dam
tbrett replied to soup23's topic in January 2000
This match brought me back to my love of ECW. In high school I was a huge RVD fan, and Sabu vs. RVD will always have a soft spot for me. Since then my taste in wrestling has changed but watching old ECW is just a lot of fun for me. *** -
First time watching this match, I remember hearing about it a long time ago as the best Death Match ever. I really liked the opening interchange with the barbed wire boards, Homna's flip off the board was awesome. I felt like Honma was clearly the better wrestler. Overall I would say this is a good Death Match but not the best ever, I think I like their 1999 matchup better if my memory serves me right. ***1/4

[2000-01-04-NJPW-Wrestling World 2000] Genichiro Tenryu vs Kensuke Sasaki
tbrett replied to Loss's topic in January 2000
Enjoyed the match, it is amazing that Tenryu can still wrestle at a high level in the 2000s. I have never been a big Sasaki fan and I really didn't think he was great here either. I would say that this is a good match but won't be in my top ten for the year.- 31 replies

The crowd was crazy from the start to the end of this match, you could feel the hate between the teams. Great match, with great heat on the biggest stage. I really liked the match but these are not my personal favorite matches, I personally prefer a more athletic match than a shoot-style mixed with some real hatred which I don't really find in most shoot-style matches I have seen. I still would call this a four star match though.

[2000-10-20-JCW-Battle at Becton] Low Ki vs Reckless Youth
tbrett replied to soup23's topic in October 2000
When I saw this match listed I had to watch it immediately, Reckless Youth the established Indy Superstar vs. the up and coming Low Ki. I really enjoyed this match, Both guys worked a good match with some great spots throughout. The Phoenix Splash to the floor by Low Ki was great, and I enjoyed the ending. Looking forward to seeing more Indy wrestling that I have not seen with the Superstars of the future. -
My first exposure to Low Ki was when he debuted in TNA in 2002 and he quickly became one of my favorite wrestlers in this period, mostly from his ROH matches. This was cool seeing him work a match as the underdog, I thought he did a good job but I found myself wanting to see the dominant Low Ki and just take over the match. You can clearly see his talent in this match and I am looking forward to see more of this. Then for Reil, I liked how he got the crowd going before the match and he is exactly the type of heel I love seeing in live Indy shows. He held is own in this match and showed off some good moves and agility.

This match reminded me how much I love 90s AJPW. Misawa and Kawada have really come into their own and you can see the greatness coming out in this match. The crowd was hot, the match had a good story, and the execution was terrific. Definateky going to be in my top ten matches of 1990.

Get back into watching wrestling regularly. It has been about 4 years since I really watched wrestling consistently. 1) Finish 1990 Yearbook 2) Watch 1991 Yearbook 3) Actively participate in the PWO2K project 4) Catch up on everything I missed over the last few years in WWE, ROH, and NJPW

This match was fantastic, I am not a Joshi fan but this Yearbook is slowly making me a fan. This is definitely in the running for MOTY for me, the pace was impressive I can see why so many people are big fans of early 90s AJW.
