    Piper def brought the goods during his first run. I be checking out the Alcatraz Nitro in a few weeks and be intrigued if that promo holds up. I loved the "Piper does an open challenge to find partners" segment at the time too when it first aired. Piper blinders firmly on.

    Has video of the Freebirds/JYD stuff from 1980 ever made it to youtube? I know the blinding is lost forever apparently but other promos and such could be greatly interesting to see.

    It's bizarro world Jim Cornette as he defends Vince Russo and praises TNA.     Jan. 88 AWA on the Network Alan West is listed as the 5th most popular AWA star. WOW. Wahoo claims he recently won a million dollars in a battle royal. Billy Jack Strong is teased to be his new protege. Kevin Kelly/Kelly Kiniski in a squash match. Nothing wrong with the match but the announcers have nothing to build on storyline wise, which doesn't help the pair out since they are pretty bland. Ustinov works a squash and no potential opponents are even mentioned to perhaps defend America. These matches taking place in vacuum really hurt the viewers investment in these matches. The Showboat seems fairly full, which makes the total collapse of the promotion over the next few months even more unsettling. They finish with a lengthy and entertaining Rockers vs Midnight Express match.

    A lot of the mid card muck could have been fixed just by Vince allowing some smaller workers to actually not be treated as jabronis. A few SMW additions, plus signing Benoit when he tried out etc etc. They don't have to headline, just be left alone in their own world to have solid undercard matches.

Also included is some news and notes from the time period including the WWF's plan to start running weekly PPVs.

    3-30-84 Mid South on the Network! This is all about heating up the Midnight Express vs Watts angle. We get lots of clips covering Watts/Corny's attacks on one another, Watts searching for a suspended JYD to use as a partner, and promos to set up the matches. Mr. Wrestling 2 vs Mike Jackson - II looks OLD. Jackson was a world class jobber but he gets replaced by Magnum TA who tries to force himself into a match with his former mentor. II tries to talk his way out of it, then just walks off. Hacksaw Duggan vs. Nikolai Volkoff - We see clips of Volkoff and Krusher Darsow trying to maul Duggan. The Rock and Roll Express and Terry Taylor make the save! Match only goes a minute before a Masked Commie and Krusher charge the ring. Taylor and the Express make the save again. Butch Reed comes down to mess with the babyfaces too. Terry Taylor vs. "Hacksaw" Butch Reed- Reed got posted in the last segment and is injured. The Ref is future WCW ref Pee-Wee Anderson! Reed wants the match postponed since this is part of the TV tourney. Reed hits Taylor with a coal miner glove. Jim Ross sells each blow like it's a hammer being used. The Rock and Rolls make the save again. Larry Santana vs. Masa Ito - The fans mock Ito by bowing at him. A fan has a Dr. X shirt on. What the HELL? That was an AWA gimmick for Dick "The Destroyer" Beyer 15 years before this aired. Match is a quick squash. JR wraps things up. Fast and fun 40 mins.

Some intriguing backstage news is included as well including Dr. Death almost going to the UFC, Vader breaking script in a match with the Ultimate Warrior, the WWF's suing WCW in order to make them break kayfabe and how the NWO angle was nearly ruined before it could barely start.

    I was there live for this. Strongest memory I have of the whole night is how many fans left after they got to see the Warrior wrestle. (and he had another segment and match to come)

    The WON 2 or 3 weeks before this speculates that MABEL is on the shortlist of 3rd Outsiders. That made me laugh.

    I really loved this match a ton and give the Horsemen full credit for being stooges and leaders in there. Flair said on his podcast that Greene was all fired u and wanted to work spots they hadn't practiced once the match started.

    The WON says part of the WWF lawsuit demands over Hall using Razor's mannerisms was that they wanted WCW to break Kayfabe 3 times during each Nitro and announce Hall and Nash were WCW employees who were part of a storyline and if the fans wanted to see WWF stars, they needed to turn on USA at 8 p.m.

    I was only 5 when he retired, but I learned to hate him from my Grandparents who loved their wrasslin. Grandma stopped watching because of all the cheating Nick would do. Jules Strongbow has told me countless times what a good teacher and mentor Bock made for a rookie breaking in the AWA.

    I laughed at the promo earlier in the night where Flair all but said AA would do all the work and Flair would swoop in for the glory and AA was ok with all this. Sad we never saw a Vader vs Giant match that the DOD segment teased
