  1. That certainly fits with Loss's list, which skews post-Russo, too.
  2. Ooh I remember that 10-man. IIRC the crowd was just blazing hot, on the level of the Foley title-win crowd.
  3. We're crazy spoiled for good free TV WWE wrestling these days -- with good matches almost guaranteed across every one of the five shows a week. During the Attitude Era (1996-01?), it was crash TV, with a lot of run ins and 3-min matches. It's kind of the updated version of the classic WWF tv model from the 70s-80s. But surely there were some worthwhile matches from WWF across that roughly 5 year period? What are they?

JBL dressed as Vince on Old School Raw -- big hair and all -- is gold.
  5. Are you referring to those idiots mugging for the camera instead of watching one of the industry's biggest stars in history brawl in the stairway next to them? Because those people were pissing me off, too.
  6. I find myself less interest in long epics and instead preferring a well worked 20 min match. I've only just recently realized that fact. Maybe it's a case of not wanting to spend 40 to 60 minutes on one match when there's so much that I have yet to see - and only so many viewing hours in a day. Plus, in so many cases, the match did not really need to be 45 minutes long.

  8. What's the storyline coming out of this match, with Austin working Rock just a month later at Mania 17? This was my first time to watch this match. I thought it did a pretty good job of feeling epic (as well as really heated especially with Austin coming right out swinging almost before the bell even rings). I didn't notice a lot of the sloppiness. But I did feel like Austin's rapid fire punches -- especially as ground and pound -- look really ridiculous and cartoony. Hunter's slower punches look a lot more devastating. I have to agree that the Street Fight segment should have gone last. But maybe logistically you don't want to have to raise a cage mid-match?
  9. Ah, I see that now with more AJ matches with his name on them. Thanks.
  10. Was this MIsawa's last match in All Japan? Surely it was, given the way he puts over Akiyama.
  11. I had to rewind that segment and watch it again because that toehold-tripping move was a thing of beauty. ________________ Totally as expected, they start this one as Misawa having none of Akiyama's shenanigans -- no-selling almost everything and giving some really wicked offensive replies. Akiyama does come back, as so eloquently described above. I loved how he turned it around and locked Misawa into the front facelock (or was it a side headlock?), as revenge for earlier in the match. They do some really nutty and nerve-wracking spots on the apron -- sometimes it's hard for me to watch Misawa's violence and not think about his future. The drama for me comes in wondering when Misawa is going to make his comeback. (he's not "Misawa" for nothing) And of course, before long Akiyama gets his face kicked off. It's that moment, when A's holding his nose and M's massaging his own neck that I feel like they become equals instead of Veteran and Young Boy. It's a great moment, and I like the fact that they took time for it to sink in. (or maybe they both really were hurting, and I am reading into it all haha) Man, when they start blowing up with the wicked offense in the last 5 min, it's like we're watching Misawa vs Kobashi from a few years before. Insane and awesome -- I got just as pumped as the crowd and announcers did as we moved into the final stretch. Fantastic.
  12. At this point, it doesn't matter, even though they usually rewrite history. They tend to clean up the footage and make it very watchable -- I'll take anything I can get.
  13. What else could it be besides one of those two, or St Louis? Vince now has UWF. Does have Portland? How about SF or LA? Or maybe someone found a warehouse full of Amarillo tapes?

Agreed. Between SS and ME, we got some really entertaining B-show (C-show?) rasslin this week. That makes me think: I guess RAW is still the A-show, and SD is the B-show -- even though with no brand split, RAW and SD are really just part 1 and 2 of the same show each week.

Superb! Until they showed that classic Danielson footage, I actually forgot I wasn't watching a WWE-made video.
  16. Bob Roop All American Nothin! Dues are bein paid! I love when he starts talking about "The Dream" in the third person. This whole clip gives me chills - and the action in the ring is white hot, too.
  17. Holy shit! Dusty back in the 70s commentating over his own Florida tag match with Murdoch against Race/Roop is maybe the greatest thing I've ever seen and heard in Rasslin! (The clip is on the Texas episode of Legends of Wrestling.)
  18. Watching it on Roku right now.
  19. Chas, where's the 2014 match-listing coming from in the discussion forum? Are you simply listing every match you can find?
  20. Strange, short little "match". Sato plays the Takayama role, which always makes me smile. But aside from one sequence that I confess got me a little excited for the underdog, DHash never once presents a credible threat. He tries and tries, throwing particularly nice kicks to Sato's chest. At one point, they even exchange headbutts. (Is this a thing now? I don't see how it can end well.) But no matter what Hash does -- barring the little sequence I mentioned -- it takes but one or two return strikes from Sato to knock the kid down. It's almost a wimpy.
  21. I'll be honest: I have no idea what the general public would choose over Flair vs Foley. As an adult, I did not start watching wrestling until 2006, so I missed the MNW era. I vaguely knew Rock and Austin. As an 80's kid in Dallas, I knew Kerry of course, and Iceman King Parsons. And Hogan/Piper/Andre/JYD - mostly from the cartoon. Flair was a name I had perhaps vaguely heard over the years, and Mankind was a book I sometimes saw at B&N. And that was at the height of Wrestling's second modern golden era (after the 80's).
  22. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnyYcyf8oCo I assume it's acceptable to link to DM/YT videos for Mexico and Japan matches? But not WWE and TNA matches?
  23. Like BP mentioned, their MITB '11 match is good. Short, to the point, and Henry looks like a monster. I don't remember caring that much for the Vengeance match beyond the "Wow" factor. But it can't hurt to revisit. (Yay, Network). Never saw the MITB one - thanks for the headsup. Mark Henry is always a good thing.
  24. Reading all y'all's posts about Warrior makes me want to watch The Warrior Show pilot again -- it's a classic, where he gets in the faces of some scared little emo rock stars, says "fuck" about a billion times, and makes them work out until they puke. It's actually pretty inspiring. Aside from his neanderthal racist/homophobic comments, I am a Warrior fan.
