Pretty much where I stand. For what they are trying to achieve, it's an A+ for sure. Now, the whole "Safe Space for Corny" aspect of it is kinda funny to me, considering the current landscape of pro-wrestling.
-
This show was like Johnny Swinger's gimmick in IMPACT, only taking itself seriously while having Corny taking about "childs & cosplayers" in reference to you-know-who. They are a re-enactment show. Hey, look, that's Eli Drake, the guy who left IMPACT because he wouldn't work with Tessa Blanchard. Can't wait until she signs with either WWE or AEW and becomes a major star while this guy is cosplaying Rock/Austin in front of 100 people in a theme park attraction of a promotion.

Well, you can't say I'm not giving MLW chances after chances after chances (I guess the WCW project and watching the entire TNA from he 00's made me quite endurant). And it finally paid off ! I really enjoyed this week's show. First, Los Parks (El Hijo was sporting a wonderful shiny red outfit) vs two guys from The Crash I would guess, Magnus being their Mistico of sorts (how many is there ?), which was a really cool crazy-ass lucha match in which LA Park worked really hard, doing an insane for his age plancha from the top rope over the barricade to the floor and other cool stuff. And Salina was there in all her glory. The addition of Dominic Garrini and Tim Thatcher and the prospect of shoot-style/bloodsporty type matches with Tom Lawlor (and maybe others ? Davey Boy ? Hell, try to book Killer Kross !) has gotten my interest up. The main event had Aries finally showing up as the great worker he is, giving Pillman his best single match yet. Likewise, I'm interested in his match with Teddy Hart now. So yeah, finally, MLW delivered a good show with the final Dallas tapings episode. The next one(s?) are gonna be from a Crash show I believe, which is quite cool in and of itself, so here's hoping they get on a streak of cool episodes leading to their first PPV. Also, Tony Schiavone dropped this during the first match : "You gotta let the match breathe. You don't have to call everything." Is Mauro listening ? Anyway, another reason why I love Tony.

Less my opinion of Jim Cornette (I still thinks he's better than 90% at announcing today) than the fact he can't shut the fuck up about his views on modern wrestling which is kinda ridiculous when he's working in this setting while the "kids and cosplayers" are selling out arenas and are live on TNT with Tony Schiavone & JR of all people calling their matches. I get why some people would enjoy it (again, super well done from a cosplay point of view and the ways the promos and angles are set up comes off as refreshing despite/because of the total retro approach). But unless there's really a name I'm interested in popping up there, I don't think this stuff is for me. I called MLW the SMW of the days, but I was wrong, this is it people. It is cool that it exists though (especially on Youtube). The more variety the better.

Well, that's the issue. It's nothing more than a vanity project by a former pop-star who was last relevant 20 years ago (so I guess there's a link there). I more or less have no interest in retromania in any field (unless it's done either tongue in cheek or actually brings a contemporary twist to it). I want something from the future. This is a cosplay show. It's super well done for what it is. But to call the people who actually are the zeitgeist (hey, see what I did here ?) "cosplayers" when you are doing the most cosplay of all cosplay show ever sounds at best comical, at worst dumb as fuck.

He's about to lose his smile, isn't he ?

Yep. Total cosplay show. Which makes Cornette talking about "a bunch of kids, a bunch of cosplayers" the stupidest thing ever. This entire show is a cosplay convention. And it's irrelevant too. It's 2019. I want to see pro-wrestling from the 2020's, not a bunch of guys pretending it's 1985. What brought me back to watch current pro-wrestling was Lucha Underground, because it was looking forward. This is perfect cosplay indeed, but it is people cosplaying as NWA. It is both kinda cool and kinda sad, actually.

Kayfabe is not dead. It's still real to them damnit. A DQ ? No, never. Did not happen. -
The tyranny of emotion over thinking is making people completely stupid. Is "overcaming depression" the new gimmick to make people accept anything ? It's not a matter of being in a wrestling bubble. I don't give a flying fuck about most sports in general, and certainly not boxing, so there's no reason why I should know about Tyson Fury. I trying to preserve myself from stupid bullshit in general.

Is Bray Wyatt, under any incarnation, officially the most Wrestlecrap main-eventer ever now or does Kane still hold that crown ? -
It's a credit to IMPACT's booking that they have me wat to watch that Moose vs Ken Shamrock match. Watching Shamrock there, he looks like the big missed opportunity. So, Daga is in the Ultimate X match alongside Tessa, which is quite interesting as these two have a past of teaming up (and working against each other too). I get a kick out of IMPACT basically throwing the towel with Elgin in a "You can't cut promos, you suck at angles, let's thrown you a great japanese guy at BFG because that's the only thing you're really good at." Marufuji should get the best out of Elgin, who did look good against TJP, whom I couldn't care less about. Not a big fan of RVD & Rhino thrown in the tag title match, it would have been much better as a straight match against Mack & Swann to me. I guess they have to get those former ECW guys a paycheck. Swinger's debut was right out of a WWF Wrestling Challenge from 1990. Funny stuff. Callis was on fire again. Matthews "But Alisha is married to Eddie Edwards !" Callis "What are you, a quacker ?". That cracked me up. Callihan's promo at the end was just perfect. He's just the perfect heel, really.

The "So it's gonna take HHH's sledghammer to beat him. *sarcastic laugh*" bit was awesome. So is that a thing ? WWE does watch along with people looking bored/appalled by their shows ? Also, is it bad that I don't recognize anyone but Waltman and Natalya (who looks about a billion times better here than she does on TV BTW). Natalya looked bored as fucking hell by this. This is not gonna stay on Youtube for long when your own guys are shitting on your product on a youtube stream... -

Wow, that thread sure turned into an epic and now I want to see that giant cartoon mallet. But yeah, DQ in a HITC match is absolutely WCW 2000. Absolutely. -

I would love for this stuff to show up somewhere. Heel Guy Hauray was simply the best. He turned around the end of 1991 I believe, I do think he was a heel already at Royal Rumble 92. He was brillant and hilarious, Bobby Heenan-level of awesomeness. It must have been only for the Quebec TV because we did not get that. I do remember Raymond showing up once alongside Guy & Eddie in full heel mode. The oddest thing was the short period after Hauray left and Raymond had like Lord Alfred Hayes because he spoke a little bit of French and also Par Patterson doing the announcing with him. -

I dunno. Hauray & Carpentier basically made me a pro-wrestling fan. I mean, without them to make some JIP Snuka vs Haku match look like the coolest thing ever, I wouldn't be on this board talking nonsense. I still uses some of their famous phrases when I'm around my father. I'm not sure how some of their stuff aged. For the people who became fan since the 00's, I know Agius & Chereau are basically iconic and they sure do a terrific job. I was a huge Guy Hauray fan, mostly. Can't believe he became some kind of bullshit "neuro-coach" ! (then again, he totally had the charisma and promo ability to sell you any kind of shit and you'd buy it !) (sorry for hitchjacking the thread) I would definitely enjoy watching Cross & Bliss vs Kabuki Warriors. Fuck you WWE for cancelling the PPVs on TV ! -

Well, I suffered through the mid 90's with Rougeau & Brassard too until I switched to the US broadcast in 1997. Brassard has always sucked. Rougeau was decent when he was working with Guy Hauray, who was awesome, but to me his announcing really dropped when paired with Brassard, who was at very best amusing because he was clueless, but usually simply annoying as fuck. I admit that hearing Rougeau & Brassard call a 2019 match would blow my mind considering last time I've heard them, they were calling some New Rockers vs Godwinns match or something ! Agius & Chereau are simply two of the best ever, in any language. It's neither here nor there since there's no PPV with French announcing in France at all anymore. -

Wait, it's today ? Holy fuck. I would totally have checked out the women's matches, and then I think we French don't get Agius & Chereau announcing PPVs anymore, so it's a definitive NO from me. This show doesn't count anyway, the big angle of the brand new FOX era was build toward Bloodsports in Saudia. -

The audience chanting "Mamma Mia" on NXT is another reason to can't stand Mauro. I'm not big into criticizing chants, but this one is just the fucking worst. Like, you're gonna emphasize the fucking announcer's gimmicks now ? Someone mention Mauro being basically an announcer for the meme culture, and I totally agree with that.
