  1. Granted I go to school in Wyoming, having just had a theater history course that covered what is on your slides, I will say that a large portion of the class wasn't familiar with alot of the stuff covered on your slides. I'm guessing this is because of lack of exposure and interest. But pulling from a smaller sample size, my friends mainly being hipsters, I think they would be familiar with the individuals on the slides, but not so much the broad history of it. Regarding kitchen sink dramas, I started reading uncut and mojo in high-school, and through those magazines, became aware of that movement. I wonder how familiar the average American is with that particular period?
  2. Just out of curiosity, assuming this is a theater course, what textbook are you using?
  3. I enjoyed his UWF stuff quite a bit, so I'm curious how his Mid Atlantic run was as I've really enjoyed the small sample I have seen of it so far. I was surprised to hear on the Austin podcast that he was booking at some point.
  4. Read The People of Paper in a Mexican American Literature class not too long ago and was surprised to see El Santo and Tiger Mask show up. Not sure if the El Santo nod in The Savage Detectives has been mentioned.
  5. I do think that Angle is talented in that he always seemed to be able to stay over in wwe in whatever role or booking they had for him.
  6. I thought it was interesting that someone brought up the rumble match as a return to the style that benoit worked in wcw, as his match with eddie the month before always seemed the closest he would come to working that style again.
  7. I would like to add more to this when I have time, as due to age and technology I was actually watching the WWE week to week pretty heavily at the time. I do think that if you compare the Raw and Heat shows with the Smackdown and Velicoty shows that the smackdown brand felt much fresher and that it was very apparent, especiacliy when they held their pay per views together, not that it was perfect. Lesnar on top felt much fresher than HHH as well. I dont think the criticism of it is new though. Arent there death valley reviews with criticism of Angle for working the same match regardless of the wrestler from around the same time period? It would be intresting to reexamine this periord though, and when wanting to, I immediately thought of a certain set that I need to get my hands on.
  8. Your description of that match made me scour YouTube. Is this the match you are referring to? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPUo0Y62eHI
  9. I need to watch it again, but the Lizmark Vs La Parka match was indeed awesome. I love their selling of the dives and the count out teases. It makes me wonder how much other La Parka and Lizmark from AAA is worth seeking out.

  11. I haven't watched them in a while, but I always thought his matches against Nagata were fun. Can't really say he's a guy I seek out though.
  12. For some reason I find the idea of Hunter watching Foley's death matches in Japan very appealing.

  14. I like the Virtual Pro series a lot, but I don’t think they have the same depth as the Fire Pro series. What really puts it over the top for me is Fire Pros AI is pretty great. From what I read, The King of Coliseum series sounds awesome.
  15. I remember not being too impressed with this match as well, so after reading Loss’s thoughts on it I decided to rewatch it, and thought it was pretty good. I agree with Loss that it had its flaws, however, they didn't really take away too much from it. The psychology was great, and both guys really played their roles to perfection. Sabu’s selling really stood out in the match, and as stupid as it may sound, it really did feel like a grudge match. As much as they were able to make the match seem like a big deal with the build leading to it, the crowd was pretty subdued. They reacted to the obvious spots and did the usual ECW chants when they were supposed to, but overall, they didn't really provide that much energy and seemed pretty drained. I think it may have something to do with their expectations at the time and having to sit through that Douglas Pitbull match. The post match shenanigans sucked.

  19. 8/9/96 MSG Shawn Michaels vs. Goldust I think this match offers perspective on what a PPV match between the two would have looked like. The match was laid out well, there are some pretty big bumps in it, both guys seemed motivated, and Rhodes does a good job of getting the Goldust character over. The match has its flaws, and could have probably been trimmed down by a few minutes, but overall, I think it’s a pretty good match that is worthy of inclusion.
  20. Has anyone watched the Kintaro Ohki & Michiaki Yoshimura vs. Johnny Valentine & King Crow match that is floating around on youtube? This is the only Valentine match I have seen in full, and after reading so much about him throughout the years and only seeing clips, I was kinda surprised that he actually wrestled as described. How much Valentine footage is out there?
  21. 9-27-1996 Silver King vs. Emilio Charles Jr. Pretty good match with both guys playing their roles very well. From the beginning, they work a fast pace with plenty of intensity that never lets up.
  22. Agreed, the match, as well as OJ's write up of it, is excellent. The psychology and build was phenomenal. I think that both guys were able to get across the feeling that they were pulling out all the stops.
  23. This was quite the match. Estrada's body language in this was great. After each standoff he seems more noticeably aggressive, more tense. I like Estrada, but do find it kinda surprising how heavily pimped he was at one point, considering that there are many better workers. Was Estrada pretty much done as a "big" bumper by this point?
  24. Ah, I see. Strangely enough I interpreted it as a list of matches from the current set that you had not previously seen or were re watching.
  25. Im confused, some of these matches don't appear to be on the set.
