I do completely buy the APW stuff being a breath of fresh air. I don't think that people really liking their stuff (and even the Nitro match and what they were TRYING to do) at that time is illogical or doesn't make sense.

I learned how to watch wrestling sitting on the scaly, creepy online knees of the DVDVR. I remember this stuff... sort of. Movez, action, and stiffness meant a hell of a lot more than they do now.
-
The workrate reports are only archived to the start of the the Russo stuff right?
-
I could buy Spike as a giantkiller because his finisher was hit out of nowhere and could theoretically knock a guy out. I buy the Giant squashing Loch Ness because The Giant is huge too. I don't think this happens in unbelievable ways all that much. Even on WCW SN, Roadblock would always be a tough opponent for a bigger name (that happened to be smalleR).

I had forgotten Hyatte too, to be honest, and I'm pretty sure I read his stuff just about every week when I was 17. But my main point is that 1) there was a pretty solid hive mind back then 2) It was very excited about the Modest vs Daniels match before it happened and 3) it tried to spin it as a positive after the fact, certainly enough so that Wade got pissed off about it. There are a ton of distinct wrestling memories I have from back then. Getting frustrated by the lack of acknowledgment of Benoit's TV title wins. Being EXCITED for Russo and Ferrara going to WCW because from what little we knew at that point, it seemed exciting for a guy who was primarily a WCW fan surrounded at college by people who were primarily wwf fans. The first time I saw the .rm file of the SAT/Red vs Brian XL/Devine Storm

I remember everyone being REALLY excited about the fact that match was going to even happen before hand, though, like it was going to change wrestling, and then afterward, we were an internet full of apologists. I didn't search for long. but this sums ups all sorts of viewpoints from them time. and hey, Hyatte. http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/columns/...-Suck:--Reason-

I want them to make an episode of Leverage about Ric Flair. I'm going to try to forward that article to John Rogers.

Didn't we all really like Daniels in 98 or so? I don't think he changed. I think we did and I think wrestling did.

I always felt like this was a pretty surreal match. Reed plays the face in this right?

Back during the Monday Night Wars, they hyped thing from segment to segment because they were so afraid of people switching.

Reigns that really hurt or devalued a title
Matt D replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Megathread archive
It put him over to us hardcores. For WWF Fans, TV pushed the Hogan-Sid finish. How important was it to the WWF? The doctored the audio to support their Mania main event plans. John As someone who was a 10 year old kid in 1992, albeit one who was pretty contrary, I feel like at the time, they put over the sheer miracle of what Flair did in a big way, and a lot of that was Heenan and the post match interview. -
Did the Sid squash match from 1/25 Superstars not make it on the set? That one really stood out for me considering how amazingly over Sid was as a face. It's one of the biggest WWF reactions of that era that I can remember.

[1992-02-01-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Sensational Sherri
Matt D replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
It's funny. As a kid, I always remembered there being a show where Dibiase GIFTS Sherri to Shawn as an act of recognition for his heel turn. But it never happened. It's just one of those things I remember falsely. -
Tony Schiavone and early 90s WCW announcing

What killed the angle was "God, not hogan again. Didn't we just get rid of him!" -
Tony Schiavone and early 90s WCW announcing
Matt D replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Megathread archive
Part of me has always theorized that one reason why WCW started to decline was Eric leaving the announcer's booth. He was the only one who knew what was going on in advance a lot of the times and where things were supposed to be going, so while he wasn't a good announcer by any means, he was able to convey the storyline, even when what was going on didn't make a whole lot of sense. He could tell us what it was SUPPOSED to mean. -
It did slow them down though. There was a moment of nervous laughter.
-
From the looks of the SD Spoilers, they're hyping a few big matches for the live SD in advance at least.

WWECW in 2009 is one of my favorite wrestling shows ever. Also, who just looks at Raw? With WCW, it'd be nuts to just look at Nitro (or even WCW SN before that) when the B shows were where some of the best TV matches were. Traditionally all the best WWF stuff was on PTWs or the televised house shows, by a WIDE margin. It was such a huge loss when they went off MSG in 92. I've seen most of 1984 Mid South TV now and I know I'm missing the best match stuff without the sister show.

then he should be the anonymous GM "By God, King! The Undertaker has learned how to possess the internet!"
-
He actually said that Vader was "TOTALLY safe." and really stressed it.
-
I really hope they save teaming Punk and Cena until Survivor Series.
-
The crowd turned him as much as anything.

I don't want to step in the middle of this with a vaguely unrelated question, but did they change the finish at Mania when the Edge injury became apparent? Or was Edge always going over?
-
They need to turn Miz face.
-
Of course it was a logical decision, that was the problem with it. Vince should have been so freaked out over Punk leaving with the title that he was unable to think logically, even if it was only for one week. I should make you all read my Montreal Manifesto post again.
