What has someone's 'Charisma' got to do with it when it comes to determining whether someone should be in the Hall of Fame?

It was a Raw dark match from around the time of their appearance in the Rumble. The crowd are totally in awe of the Headhunters as they pull out all their high spots performed at 400+lbs.

Condit was superb in the WEC and pretty much ran through everyone. Brock Larson was wrecking people for fun until he faced Condit, whilst Condit's fight with Hiromitsu Miura is one of the unheralded fights of 2008. He had a great fight against Jake Ellenberger (which had to follow the Credeur/Quarry war) and after the first round it looked as though this was going to be better than that. It was also interesting over here in the UK, listening to people say how Dan Hardy was going KO him (don't get me started on Hardy's mythical KO power), even though it was clear to me that Condit was the toughest fighter he had faced (who wasn't named GSP) and was a far better fighter than the likes of Marcus Davis, 'Put to Sleep Quick' Swick and Rory Markham who he defeated to get a title shot. So yeah, I'm a huge Condit fan also and was pretty disappointed that he had his title shot took away from him.

Exactly. I doubt there isn't another fighter who has such a strong resume of excellent fights (Lawler, Karo, Gomi, Wildman Denny, Shamrock, KJ II, Cyborg, Daley, Penn) with some of those being contenders for best fight of their year (if no-one has seen it I'd strongly recommend searching out the Thomas Denny fight from EliteXC). Even when not being in great fights, he has put on superb one man performances (against Smith and Zaromskis). This being the same Dana White who promised Anthony Pettis a title shot, said he would still be getting it even after the draw, and then changed his mind to go with Edgar/Maynard III, and only now you are questioning Dana's word?

Very happy to see that Kent Walton got elected. With all the talk over Johnny Saint recently I was already to go on a tirade about how on earth can people vote for Saint, yet NOT vote for Walton. No need whatsoever now.

There was a movement on the RIM boards about 3 years ago of trying to push the case of Mark Rocco. I knocked the following comp out over a weekend, and the idea was to try and get it out to as many voters as possible. No idea how many people saw it in the end (doubt many to be honest), but I personally sent a copy to Cornette (aswell as a couple of discs of Jim Breaks stuff as I thought he would get a kick out of him). A comp on the best stuff of Rocco, Saint, Breaks, McManus, Grey, Jones etc would be a good idea, the only thing is I don't know how much (if any) of Pallo is out there, there is nothing that stands out for Nagasaki, pretty much ditto with Daddy and Haystacks (although I haven't seen it in years, I remember a passable match that he had with Maeda). MARK ROCCO 'THE WORLD OF SPORT YEARS' (3 discs) Mark Rocco vs Kung Fu (02.04.76) Mark Rocco vs Marty Jones (07.10.76) Mark Rocco vs Leon Fortuna (06.05.78) Mark Rocco vs Clive Myers (06.05.78) Mark Rocco vs Marty Jones (08.05.78) Mark Rocco vs Alan Dennison (10.11.78) Mark Rocco vs Steve Grey (10.11.78) Mark Rocco vs Chris Adams (06.12.79) Mark Rocco & Banger Walsh vs Big Daddy & Kid Chocolate (02.05.80) Mark Rocco vs Pete Roberts (05.28.80) Mark Rocco vs Dynamite Kid (11.26.80) Mark Rocco vs Sammy Lee (03.31.81) Mark Rocco vs King Benn (07.15.81) Mark Rocco vs Chris Adams (09.29.81) Mark Rocco vs Dynamite Kid (11.18.81) Mark Rocco vs Dynamite Kid (11.30.81) Mark Rocco vs Steve McHoy (02.17.82) Mark Rocco vs Chic Cullen (12.27.86) Mark Rocco vs Fuji Yamada (04.28.87) Mark Rocco & Wayne Bridges vs Kendo Nagasaki & Shane Stevens (03.16.88) MARK ROCCO 'THE SCREENSPORT YEARS' Mark Rocco interview (10.19.85) Mark Rocco vs Kung Fu (10.19.85) Mark Rocco vs Chic Cullen (10.19.85) Mark Rocco interview (11.22.85) Mark Rocco interrupts a Kung Fu & Chic Cullen interview (11.22.85) Mark Rocco & Rocky Moran vs Mal Sanders & Johnny Saint (11.22.85) Mark Rocco interview (01.18.86) Mark Rocco interrupts a Jon Wilkie interview (03.01.86) Mark Rocco interview (03.01.86) Mark Rocco vs Jamaica Kid (03.01.86) Mark Rocco interview (05.31.86) Mark Rocco vs Brian Maxine (05.31.86) Battle Royal (05.31.86) Mark Rocco interview (08.03.86) Mark Rocco vs Mickey Gold (08.03.86) Mark Rocco vs Steve Fury (08.03.86) Mark Rocco vs Pat Barrett (08.03.86) Mark Rocco interview (09.27.86) MARK ROCCO 'THE NEW JAPAN YEARS' (3 discs) Black Tiger vs Gran Hamada (05.06.82) Black Tiger vs Tiger Mask (05.26.82) Black Tiger & Pete Roberts vs Tiger Mask & Tatsumi Fujinami (08.27.82) Black Tiger vs Tiger Mask (09.21.82) Black Tiger vs Kuniaki Kobayashi (01.20.83) Black Tiger & Carlos Estrada vs Tiger Mask & Kantaro Hoshino (01.28.83) Black Tiger vs Tiger Mask (02.07.83) Black Tiger vs Cobra (01.01.84) Black Tiger & Cobra vs Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith (01.84) Black Tiger vs Cobra (10.12.84) Black Tiger vs Cobra (10.19.84) Black Tiger vs Cobra (11.01.84) Black Tiger vs Cobra (01.03.86) Black Tiger vs Shiro Koshinaka (01.10.86) Black Tiger vs Keichi Yamada (01.17.86) Black Tiger & Kevin Von Erich & Johnny Mantell vs Antonio Inoki & Tatsumi Fujinami & Cobra (02.02.86) Black Tiger vs Nobuhiko Takada (08.29.86) Black Tiger vs Shiro Koshinaka (09.12.86) Black Tiger & Dick Murdoch vs Shiro Koshinaka & Tatsumi Fujinami (04.20.87)

The first time that there was a specific European category was for the 2009 Hall of Fame, and Saint wasn't included in the original batch of nominees who were Marc Rocco, Big Daddy, Kendo Nagasaki, Mick McManus and Jackie Pallo. Saint is mentioned in the 'added to the ballot next year' comments (along with Kent Walton, who absolutely should have been listed with the initial batch of candidates). I don't know how early Dave sends the ballots out for the Hall of Fame or how early he drew up a list of European candidates, but whilst Saint may very well have been known to the hardcores and heavy tape traders/watchers, it was the 2009 King of Trios where he seemed to 'garner his name' with the masses and likes of Alvarez et al who I had never even heard mention him prior to this. As others have said if you are going to include Saint on the ballot, you really should be adding contemporaries such as Jim Breaks, Steve Grey, Marty Jones etc. If some of these had been added to the ballot along with Saint it wouldn't have been an issue, just the fact that Saint tours for Chikara, gathers a whole host of new fans and is then added to the ballot.
-
I think this hits the nail on the head perfectly. The only reason Saint is on the ballot is due to his US indy appearances over the past couple of years for Chikara. If he had never ventured across to the US or if he had stayed retired then he wouldn't even be being discussed.

I doubt any of us are planning on getting that set so I think spoiling wouldn't be a problem. Fair enough, although I always enjoy watching old TV seasons and spotting guys who went on to have some success in the early stages of their career (like spotting Billy Gunn in the NWA 1989 World Championship Wrestling set). Anyway, Boondocks is correct and 'Steve Moore' who is doing the job to Marty Jannetty on the October 2nd 1993 show is none other than Al Snow.
-
I don't think I have seen this noted anywhere else and it certainly isn't on TheHistoryofWWE website. I recently got some of the 1993 WWF Superstars of Wrestling set in a trade, and when checking the discs there was a very familiar face who faced Marty Jannetty on the October 2nd show. I wont spoil it for anyone, but he wrestled as 'Steve Moore' and went on to have a fair bit of success in SMW, ECW and WWF/E.
-
But then if you are only to base your criteria for entry on ringwork (which I think is the primary reason for Saint) then you need to include contemporaries such as Jim Breaks, Steve Grey etc. However, those guys are clearly hurt by the lack of exposure that they have had in comparison to Saint.
-
Personally, I can't see how someone could vote for Saint and not include Daddy and certainly Kent Walton. Although the belief from some in the UK that I've read is that Saint would do well this year based solely on his recent US exposure. I don't know much about McManus, but I remember a couple of years ago there was a program on ITV called That's What I Call Television (hosted by Fern Britton and Bradley Walsh) where they had a feature on the old World of Sport wrestling, and the person they had as their guest to talk about it was McManus (this show airing some 20 years after ITV cancelled wrestling, and guessing a good 30/40 years after McManus' prime). Whilst not as well known as Daddy, for a certain generation as Pete says, he was an absolute mainstream name (my parents who had little interesting in wrestling) were both fully aware of him and would bring him up when I would watch the ITV wrestling as a kid.

I know I've got a DVD full of these somewhere (it also includes the ClubWWI shoots). Pretty sure I have some of the random booking sheet episodes also on various discs, but these will be more difficult to locate.

[1992-04-04-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett and The Moondogs
GSR replied to Loss's topic in April 1992
I honestly never expected to see a team worse than 'The Fat Boyz' (Meat & Potatoes) in the USWA this year, but the Star Riders proved even worse than them.- 11 replies

[1992-03-28-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett vs The Moondogs
GSR replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
The highlights of the Moondogs vs Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett with jobbers as lumberjacks match was tremendous. The jobbers got in some retribution against the Dogs, but in the end they all took more full force chair shots. Richard Lee interfered freely and was using powder on the faces, the officials and the jobbers, with Jimmy Valiant eventually coming out to even up the sides.- 14 replies

The following are nominations from a write up I wrote back in 2007 regarding the FWA 'British Uprising' show. I really enjoyed the matches at the time but haven't watched them in years. 10.13.02 Raj Ghosh vs Jack Xavier vs James Tighe 10.13.02 Jerry Lynn vs Doug Williams 10.13.02 AJ Styles vs Jonny Storm The three way was the show opener, and I know got lots of plaudits at the time especially as all three were fairly young into their careers.

I thought Embry and Dave Brown were both tremendous in this segment, and sleazy sums Embry up to a tee. Kimberly was OK, although she did a far better job than any other of the USWA women of the time (Miss Texas, C.J., Miss Jennifer etc) could have. Brown's utter disdain and contempt for Embry after he had twice forced himself on Kim, and then refusing to let him talk when he had something to say was quality.

Pro Wrestling Magazine Memories(NOT from WWF Magazine)
GSR replied to Johnny Sorrow's topic in Pro Wrestling
I haven't purchased any wrestling mags for years, but Brian Elliott posts over on the UKFF and usually is very open to any constructive criticism and listens to what the readers have to say. The general opinion is that the magazine has improved greatly sice he took over the editorialship, and the main issues that people seem to have are the columns from Bill Apter (stopped being relevant over a decade ago) and RD Reynolds (generally considered not funny and a poor writer). One of my friends purchases Powerslam monthly and I will usually read that if ever I am over at his house (he lives the other end of the UK to me), and I am surprised that people still purchase this. If a magazine is 'going through the motions' then this clearly is; A4 full page photos, A3 center poster, a page of house show results, peoples twitter postings, internet forum posts, stuff what the commentators said, a two page neverending history of PPVs, a letters page, This Year in Powerslam, another page of photos, DVD reviews, Stately Wayne... Fin is clearly picking just picking up his cheque and has been for years now. -
[1992-02-15-USWA-TV] The Moondogs vs Brian Collins & Ricky Hutchens
GSR replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
The Moondog rules are in effect again as they constantly use their bones and chairs as weapons. Both of the jobbers are busted open and the Dogs win with their Demolition Decapitation variation.- 10 replies

[1992-02-08-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett and The Moondogs
GSR replied to Loss's topic in February 1992
A rather dapper Jarrett and Lawler come out for an interview, saying that they are going to put an end to the Moondogs and Richard Lee. They say that the dogs couldn't get the job done on their own which is why they had to get the Big Black Dog to help them out. The Dogs and Lee (sans BBD) come out and jump the King and Jarrett, and only when the faces are in control does the Big Black Dog make an appearance. To show that equal opportunities exist in Memphis, the Dogs proceed to rip the clothes off Jarrett and Lawler and beat them with chairs.
