Loss
I know some have been down on them at times, but I really loved these training videos. This is where Bret made the controversial comment that there are no real tough Mexican wrestlers.
NitroFan
It seems to me that you can really tell how cut up Bret is by people thinking Shawn is best. The Shawn "Markman" comment from 1997 came to mind when watching this.
Zenjo
Bret with all his experience of Mexican wrestling.
BruiserBrody
Bret's promo made me want to watch the Mania match, even though I know it'll be tedious.
theconstipatedsmark
I kind of dug them. They were more down to earth than a lot of stuff back then. Kind of makes me think of the stuff UFC does for videos now.
PeteF3
Shawn introduces us to Jose Lothario. Bret rebuts--Shawn reminds him of a tennis ball bouncing around the ring, but doesn't have many effective moves besides the kick. Bret would fit right in at PWO, lucha-bashing aside. soup23
I can see how this would be good setup to some but I would have preferred more of a Shawn is hip, young to Bret is traditional tilt on the whole build. That is a prickly path to make Bret not seem old that he may not have bought but I think he would have came off better than he does here saying that Mexicans aren't tough and being bitter towards Shawn. My favorite moments was the actual training with the contrast in the seasons.
tim
No tough Mexican wrestlers! I thought the build for this match has been lame so far but this was a really effective package. Bret's assessment of his and Shawn's respective styles, the toughness line notwithstanding, is cool in the context of the 'sports' build-up. dawho5
I hadn't seen this and Bret's comments about Mexican wrestling are pretty telling. Who are you to judge El Dandy anyway? For all my not liking Shawn for certain aspects of his in-ring style, he is clearly in great shape and (surprisingly) can throw not ridiculously bad looking punches. When there is a half of a heavy bag in front of him. Bret's training, in comparison seems on the one hand tame, but getting stretched by Stu seems like it would really, really, really suck. If only either promotion cared about submissions not involving your designated finisher that would certainly be a huge advantage to Bret.
