Cornette says it doesn't matter who the Rock & Rolls tag team partner is, even if they dig up Bela Lugosi!

 

Morton says he can beat any one of their guys in a singles match, and we have a match!

 

Nice match with Eaton working over Morton's knee after he stumbles on a leapfrog. To me, the key thing this shows is that Eaton still had some life in him, despite not really getting much chance in WCW after '92 to show it.

 

The Stud Stable runs in to attack both guys and before you know it, everyone is in the ring brawling. The locker room clears, and it's total mayhem.

 

Great stuff, they're doing a really good job building this three-way feud.

Holy shit that kids mask ruled! Great run to the ring to get started. The messed up leapfrog was great because Eaton came right back with the knee attack that looked sweet. I'm sure it was called before, but what a nice recovery. If it wasn't a called spot before, Eaton is da man. Good match, then some interference, we get a brawl and some chaos.

This was a fun little match with just smart work from 2 pros. The brawl at end was some good fore shadowing of the great 9 man brawls we would get in the future.

The messed up leapfrog was great because Eaton came right back with the knee attack that looked sweet. I'm sure it was called before, but what a nice recovery. If it wasn't a called spot before, Eaton is da man.

Yep. To me it looked like a messed up leapfrog, but you never know with these two. Either a nifty spot, either a great cover. Nice little TV match. Bobby Eaton should have been a regular on WCW TV for years, he was still a super solid worker at that point, but he was already the designated jobber of the Dangerous Alliance a year earlier, so the writing was on the wall.

Cornette ain’t worried about any potential mystery partner Rock n’ Roll can have. Jim doesn’t think any single guy could beat one of his Bodies. The Express answer to that challenge. Oh, Bob Armstrong is quick to approve such a singles match. I'm waiting for Giant Gonzales to show up in Smokey Mountain and dunk a basketball in one of these gyms. Stud Stable interfere in match. Cornette beating up Rip Rogers.

Cornette shits on the Rock 'n Roll Express' mystery partner. Cornette's trash talk leads to the R'nRs coming out and eventually to an impromptu one-on-one match. Good knee-focused attack from Bobby, and I actually have to think that leapfrog spot was intentional. Eaton even busts out a figure four, and Cornette holding the tennis racket for Eaton to grab is about the most fucking brilliant thing ever. Another cheap DQ, but these studio DQs at least serve a larger purpose. The Heavenly Bodies and Killer Kyle follow, and in an exquisite little moment Eaton picks off some jobber with the racket, then in one motion tosses it back out to Cornette on the floor so he can beat on him some more. Cornette even decks Rip Rogers! The whole locker room empties out and we go off the air with Bob Armstrong vainly attempting to restore order.

Cornette promo putting down the RNR who come out to confront them, setting up Morton vs. Eaton. Eaton takes out Morton's knee and works a figure four with leverage from Cornette. Basic, effective studio-style match with a Morton comeback before the Studd Stable attacks both guys. Bodies & Killer Kyle out as well, for big 3-way brawl. Really digging this feud.

Match was great as a sprint and had a frantic, organic feel that got across the on the fly nature of it. Big brawl to empty out and we have a wild scene with pretty much the whole locker room at war with each other. This disc has been great stuff after great stuff without letting up one bit. **1/2

Cornette says that he heard the Rock & Roll Express talking about this 'mystery partner', but they aren't worried because he knows that they can't find anyone who would give the Heavenly Bodies a fight. He then says how they had the gall to claim that either one of them could beat anyone of his guys individually, 'but neither one of them could beat half of us with the other one helping'! At this point the Rock & Rolls come out, soon followed by Bob Armstrong. Ricky Morton says again that either he or Robert could beat any one of them at any time and Cornette tells him to prove it. Morton responds by telling him that they'll prove it right now, there is a ring right there, just pick someone? Armstrong says that if they want to go one on one that is up to them, he'll take care of the rest. Cornette picks Bobby Eaton to face Morton and Armstrong says he's going to ensure it's one on one, and gets security to take everyone else back to the dressing room.

 

I felt the match itself was nothing special (a phrase I'm tending to use a fair bit whilst watching the SMW set) and the fact that it started so late in the show meant that you kind of knew that it wasn't going overly long (although in the past they have gone off the air with matches still in progress). The Stud Stable and Dutch Mantel interfere for the cheap DQ finish, attacking both men and leading to the match being thrown out. Gibson and the Bodies come out to help their respective partners, soon followed by Killer Kyle. Larry Santo, Lynn Fields, Rip Rogers, Reno Riggins and Dixie Dy-No-Mite all rush out to try and separate everyone, but this appears just to be an excuse for Cornette to start waffling them with his tennis racket! The post match here is great and a really wild and chaotic scene with everyone fighting amongst each other. Things only start to get restored when Bob Armstrong (sporting a fluorescent yellow cap) comes out saying that's enough and tries to calm the situation.

This was a hell of an action-packed match for the time it was given. It helps that these two know each other almost better than they know themselves, as they knew exactly which of their "greatest hits" to play in the time allotted. Eaton's work on Morton's knee was worthy of a much longer match, and the spot where Corny's racquet was used for extra leverage on Bobby's figure-four was truly inspired.

 

I didn't mind the Studs' run-in under the circumstances, since this bout was never meant to settle anything. This was one of the wilder battle royal-style finishes you'll ever see, as jobbers are beaten to death with Corny's racquet while all three tag teams (and Killer Kyle) go after each other indiscriminately. You forgot to secure the Studs, Bullet Bob!

 

Speaking of whom, I thought he was back in the ring by this point. I guess Corny wanted to wait until the three-way tag feud was blown off before diverting his and the Bodies' attention.

 

Corny's promo beforehand was nothing special for him, but it served to set up the match, so it was fine in that aspect. By the way, does anyone know who Rock 'n' Roll's partner was in those six-mans? I seriously doubt that it was Arn (their eventual partner in the blowoff).

 

I love it when announcers like Caudle are surprised that heels are breaking the rules even after the heels flat-out state that they'll be breaking them. Check out the "But you can't do that!" tone in Bob's voice when he sees that there are three Bodies with Corny. Hello, Bob, they've been a threesome for almost a month!
