Loss
First, we get footage from The Omni on 2/7 with Douglas getting a knee injury post-match. Tony and Jesse are terrible here and would rather talk about anything but the match. But the match is really good, on par with the best Steamboat/Douglas tags. Austin and Pillman get the win when Pillman pins Bagwell. Scorpio had so much fun offense and really all four of these guys (except maybe Bagwell) should have been pushed a little harder. Resident Evil
This is a terrific match. I know DW doesn't like it as much as I do but I was super into this one back in 93. Bagwell was underrated back in the early days but I beleive that is becoming more common knowledge now.
Matt D
This match is good, but the CC match from Worldwide in a few months is even better.
shoe
I thought this was a good tag. Scorpio's 1st entrance into the match was great. I thought Austin's dancing schtick was great. My main complaint was it was a tad chin locky. Which is fine when you have Steamer sell his ass off to get the chinlock over. Scorpio is good at this point, but his facials weren't as good as his rest of his game. Comparing him to Steamer really isn't fair since Steamer had some of the best facials of all time. Still a good little match.
Kevin Ridge
Steamboat did a poor job letting Douglas know that Pillman was coming from behind. The ladies love Bagwell. Ventura talks about Bagwell being from Cranberry High School. Austin's dancing was great. I didn't think Jesse/Tony were that bad at first but once they went to that commercial break they seemed to mail it in. Bagwell was all fired up when he made the hot tag but was pinned a bit too easily.
PeteF3
Bagwell dancing with Scorpio is ridiculous, but damned if the crowd doesn't squeal over it. I definitely didn't think this was as good as the Power Hour bout. As shoe points out it does get chinlocky, and it doesn't have Steamboat holding the structure together. There is some good heeling from the Blonds and Bagwell is energetic, and it must be pointed out how much more heated this is. I think it's absurd that they didn't strap a rocket to Scorpio and push him to the TV or U.S. titles--he was over enough and probably a better "black draw"--for want of a less patronizing term--than Simmons. Finish was real weak-sauce. At least do a Bobby Eaton and come off the top rope on the guy.
WingedEagle
Clips from the Omni with Pillman taking out Douglas' knee post-match. Bagwell is not good here. Over the top facials, illogical offense and just poor working the crowd. Didn't dig him at all. Scorpio can't come in quickly enough. Crowd is pretty hot for Scorpio's selling. You can see Pillman & Austin settling into their act and character here. Bagwell hits the fisherman suplex finisher but Austin lays him out and Pillman covers for win. Simple but nothing special due to MAB. **3/
Loss
What's that star rating?
WingedEagle
Er, 2 Scorpios and a super, super fractional Bagwell?
soup23
I liked this match a decent amount but agree with the criticisms Pete laid out. I also think if you think Jesse on commentary could do no wrong, listen to this match as he derailed it time and time again to say his unfunny jokes like Cranberry. Scorpio diving in on the arm and Austin dancing were the highlight here. I can't believe the finish was what it was. ***1/
garretta
The finish and the commentary derailed this match. Some Rookie of the Year Bagwell is, getting pinned after a virtual lovetap from Austin. Why not just have Pillman cut him off, hit him with a finisher, and pin him clean? It isn't like he's being pushed to anything meaningful. Scorp continues to look like a rising star. The fans are way into him, and he's got an athletic skill set like no one else's in the promotion right now. Coming over the top rope to land on Austin's arm after Bagwell tagged him in for the first time was a real "wow" moment. As I fear will be the case more often than not this year, Tony and Jesse made this match almost unwatchable. I've given up trying to figure out why Tony acts the way he does around the Bod; all I know is that you'd have to go pretty far to find a more unprofessional commentary team in the business right now, and 95% of it is Tony's fault. I could give a whole laundry list of instances, because they crop up all over the place here, but I don't want every review of a match they call to be a list of announcing gripes and nothing more. I guess you could say that their problem isn't their unprofessionalism as much as it is that they bring our attention to it. For example, Tony starts to make a point, calls for a response from Jesse, and is promptly told that Jesse doesn't feel like talking and will respond when he damn well pleases. There's nothing at all funny about this, and because they were so good in the WWF together, I'm beginning to suspect that they were told to do stuff like this by Bischoff to get tongues wagging, almost like a feud. Okay, but what can the endgame possibly be? They're not going to wrestle, and even if they were eventually going to choose proxies to duke it out on their behalf, what purpose would it serve? They're the top two announcers in the promotion and have to work together regardless. All it does is take potentially good matches and help turn them into trash. There was one patented "what the hell moment", though: Jesse compliments Austin on dancing as well as Scorp during one sequence. While he's doing that, Steve tags Pillman, who starts choking Scorp. Tony promptly asks Jesse, "What's a chokehold for?" Jesse can't believe his ears and asks Tony what he thought of Austin's dance, but Tony no-sells this and again asks, "What's a chokehold for?" Jesse then has to explain what a chokehold is to someone who's been calling matches for ten years. You could make this stuff up, but why the hell would you want to? Hopefully the two Steamer/Douglas-Blonds title matches remaining on the set this month will be action-packed enough that they'll be in main event form, which is still pretty good. Did WCW ever formally acknowledge on the air who was supposed to be on the Championship Committee? Tony and Jesse are talking about the Omni footage (which was good, but nothing special) during the intros, and Jesse calls the Blonds the uncrowned tag team champions. Tony tells him to take his case to the Championship Committee, and Jesse says that he's doing it right then, since Tony's on the Committee. It would make sense that a veteran announcer like Tony would be on such a committee, but I don't ever remember WCW making a big deal about stuff like that before.
