Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Cornette has raised the stakes to $20,000 by this point. Bob Armstrong says he won't take a check from Cornette -- he needs cash money! Cornette wants No DQ and No Time Limit clauses in the contract, while the Fultons insist that Cornette can't bring the racket to ringside. Corny ain't havin' it, but Bob tells him to take it or leave it, so he takes it. So these two teams will face off next week! Sounds like they're trying to wrap this up so they can move over to Bodies/Rock & Rolls.
shoe
A good segment to the big blow off.
Kevin Ridge
Armstrong wants cash money. Bargaining between parties on stipulations. Cornette's tennis game is going to get rusty not having his racket out there.
WingedEagle
Signing for the no time limit match with Cornette's racket "omitted" from the ring, with Mama Cornette's money on the line. Bring on the RNR.
PeteF3
Cornette's mother has doubled her offer, and that gets the Fantastics on board. Bob Armstrong insists on cash money only, no checks. I love Dutch and the heels' reactions to the secret conference between the Fultons and Armstrong--the kind of thing that, as El-P mentioned, doesn't exist in modern-day scripted promos. Lane: "Why don't you just shoot us, Armstrong, and get it over with??" No-DQ rematch for $20,000 with no tennis racket, and it's next week! GSR
Dutch informs us Jim that Cornette has now put up $20,000 against the belts to face the Fantastics. Bobby Fulton says that is a lot of money, so put your money where your mouth is and for $20,000 we'll sign! Bob Armstrong says that he is not going to take a cheque off Cornette or his mother, if they put cash in his hand he'll take it to the SMW bank and they'll have the match, but only as long as he gets the cash. Cornette tells him to leave his mother out of this as she's a silent partner and then states that he wants one further clause added to the match. He doesn't want to leave his $20,000 in the hands of one of his officials who do everything he says, he wants the best team to win, so insists on the match being no disqualification 'so there is no way they can call if off'. Bobby Fulton whispers something to Armstrong, who then says that they can have the no DQ match, but every time they wrestle your tennis racket ends up finding it's way into the ring. He says that they can have the match on TV next week, it'll be no DQ and with no time limit, but the racket is omitted from ringside. Cornette isn't happy, but Armstrong tells him there will be no match unless he signs the contract. He believes that Armstrong did everything within his power to get the belts on the Fantastics, and is now doing everything in his power to keep them on them. He reluctantly signs the contract and the match is set. Cornette is great here reacting off Armstrong and the Fulton, and it's another excellent segment in the feud which sadly appears to be drawing to a conclusion. garretta
I'm not sure about this segment. The Fultons and Bullet Bob really seem to be stacking the deck against the Bodies in a heelish fashion. Not that the Bodies are faces or anything like that, but it almost seems like this feud is heel/heel at this point, intentionally or not. Maybe things would be different if this were the original Fantastics, because it's almost like Bobby feels he has to do extra on the mic to protect Jackie, who isn't the most experienced talker in the world. Instead of sounding tough and hard, though, he comes off as obnoxious and entitled. It's interesting that the Bodies firmly overruled Corny and told him to sign the match when he wanted to refuse due to the racquet being banned. Somehow, I can't imagine either version of the MX daring to contradict Corny, especially in public. The signing being on Down and Dirty made it seem more important somehow. No offense to Bob Caudle or Phil Rainey, but this is becoming the go-to segment every week on SMW TV, just like Piper's Pit was for the WWF in the mid-eighties. "Why don't you shoot us?" may have been Stan's first real contribution in weeks other than that godawful headgear and toupee. .
dawho5
I think a part of the issue here is that Bob Armstrong may be a little too inclined to stack the deck against Corny and the Bodies. I would say that a babyface commissioner has to be a little on the side of the babyfaces, but not so much that the heels have a valid case of the deck being stacked against them. It seems like a case of Corny wanting to have something to complain about and not having enough restraint in putting it into the booking as he ought to.
