JMFabianoRPL Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I notice that in some recent WWE Magazine issues, in the classic pictures they have taken to editing out the old WWF block logo along with the Attitude Era scratch logo. What happened? Is this part of the 2011 rebranding from World Wrestling Entertainment to WWE? Did the Pandas come down on them again for whatever reason? (If they did, I would imagine it would be over using the block logo as part of Old School Raw last year) More importantly, how goes it with the classic footage on DVD and on Classics on Demand? Are they still keeping the block logo in as well as the words "World Wrestling Federation"? (since the rebranding, I mean) I guess I'll live with the editing of the magazines if the matches are still intact as possible.
sek69 Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 They have a block version of the WWE logo they like to use for their retro stuff, but the old WWF one is still OK. Only the scratch logo is off limits.
MikeCampbell Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I know for a while they'd been using a bastardized block logo for legends material, but the old school RAW had the original block logo intact.
JMFabianoRPL Posted August 8, 2011 Author Report Posted August 8, 2011 I know for a while they'd been using a bastardized block logo for legends material, but the old school RAW had the original block logo intact. Yes, the "Word Life" W. I did mention the Old School usage, and wasn't it seen on Raw Roulette on the Punk "shoots" show? That makes it curious as to why it has now disappeared in the magazines. Is it intact on current Classics on Demand programming, and the newest DVDs?
sek69 Posted August 8, 2011 Report Posted August 8, 2011 All past logos other than the scratch WWF logo are intact on VOD programming. I think they just want people to get accustomed to the block style WWE logo since that's what they use on new Legends branded merch.
artDDP Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 What's up with them blurring out the old "Superstars of Wrestling" logo on some of the DVDs?
flyonthewall2983 Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Someone else had "Superstars Of Wrestling" trademarked.
artDDP Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Someone else had "Superstars Of Wrestling" trademarked. Vince didn't trademark that or he let it expire?
sek69 Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 IIRC, some local indy had "Superstars of Wrestling" trademarked, I think they actually did it at some point after the WWF show started. They sued over rights, WWF lost since the paperwork was all in the indy's favor. The logo gets blurred on any reshowings and I'm pretty sure it's why the show was renamed "WWF Superstars" at some point before it ended.
JMFabianoRPL Posted April 10, 2012 Author Report Posted April 10, 2012 The controversy rears its head yet again...there was a blurred block logo in this week's Are You Serious? and the turnbuckles and Piper's mic were blurred in the Smackdown Blast from the Past commercial. Does anyone know what is going on?!!?
Tim Evans Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 They also blocked World Wrestling Federation. That's just weird.
Bob Morris Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 It's WWE engaging in revisionist history. There was no World Wrestling Federation. There was no WWF usage. Just WWE. And they were never about pro wrestling. They were about entertainment. It's WWE being WWE.
rovert Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 For whatever it is worth WWE is 10 years old today.
flyonthewall2983 Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 I felt that way for awhile, but I'm used to it now to the point where I barely refer to stuff before 2002 as WWF.
artDDP Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 And it still doesn't sound right. Try calling it "the WWE" like everyone else does, that might help.
El-P Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 And it still doesn't sound right. Try calling it "the WWE" like everyone else does, that might help. The WCW. The SummerSlam. Bret Hart's spirit lives.
