Nice ceremony that just feels so out of place smacked in the middle of the Hogan cartoon stuff. Wahoo, Funk (who speaks in an oddly deliberate way), Poffo, Inoki ("Goodwill among nations!"), Studd (Solie wears his disappointment with this induction on his sleeve, his son who accepts the induction is a big kid), and Dusty go in. Whoa, YOUNG CODY.

 

And of course, Gordon Solie does Oscar-level acting feigning surprise at his HOF induction.

Even as a young kid, Cody looked cocky as hell. Solie was just awful in this. Especially when he gets his induction.

Is it true that Solie had a hissy fit over Poffo being in?

I'd like to think so, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bischoff canned him.

Yeah, this was pretty out of place at this point in WCW. Terry Funk's speech for pretty cool though. I think the deliberate tone was a way to make it seem more serious. Hey, Dusty says hello to his grand daughter Dakota, but no word for the mother, eh eh.

Yes, the Poffo induction led to Solie quitting the company. Whatever, Gordon. Solie seems visibly annoyed right from the start. Same format as previous years, but as mentioned, way more out of place considering what else was going on in the company. Kind of amusing to see Funk in this setting, days after pulverizing Bob Armstrong. Poffo uses this opportunity to cut a promo for the Monster Maniacs, which comes off as rather cynical. Big pop for Gordon's speech about Dusty. Dusty then launches into a speech inducting Gordon Solie as the surprise 7th member, and Gordon looks like that job applicant who was accidentally put on BBC television as a computer expert.

 

This of course would be the last of these ceremonies, which is too bad but probably for the best. I'd hate to see this used as a cheap excuse for an NWO attack the next year.
