Loss
Last few minutes. Mabel and Mo are working over Diesel after a ref bump. Luger runs in, but Diesel -- probably not knowing whose side Luger was on -- starts throwing punches at him, but Luger doesn't turn. I remember hoping for a Luger turn at Summerslam at the time, and also thinking how hard would it have been for Diesel and Luger to find a chance to talk before the show? Anyway, this is probably the most infamous match and feud of Nash's ill-remembered title reign. Believe it or not, he did try hard in this match, but this has its rightful place as one of the weakest matches to headline a PPV ever. El-P
I thought the match was a step up from the three previous PPV involving Sid. The Sid feud was so godawful... This match was as good as it could humanly be for involving Mabel and Kevin Nash. Last appearance ever of Luger in the WWF, who would have guessed ? It was brillant because as Luger just makes a comeback in the main event scene after months of purgatory, he shows up on Nitro to challenge Hogan the next day. Good days... Tim Evans
So Diesel attacks Luger but Luger helps Diesel anyways by fighting off Mo? No wonder Lex jumped to WCW. Can't tell how good or bad the match was watching the last few minutes. Probably was bad.
Smack2k
It was bad, but really wasnt any worse than the Sid matches.....
PeteF3
God knows why, but since I had the Network fired up anyway, I may as well watch this entire monstrosity. Diesel cuts another bad, forced promo before the match. He makes a Pulp Fiction reference, the most current pop-culture nod in the history of Kevin Nash promos. Diesel really is trying here, and to be fair so is Mabel, but Mabel in particular just isn't any good. His clubbering looks like shit and other than a few nice big fat man spots, that's all he has. Even his belly-to-belly looks incredibly weak here. Diesel busts out a pescado and follows up with a pretty neat bump into the ringpost. Ref gets bumped and MOM perform one of the lamest 2-on-1 attacks you'll ever see. Lex Luger makes an attempted save, but Diesel takes him out. Luger fights off Sir Mo, and Diesel comes back to win with a forearm off the second turnbuckle. I know we complain about the WWF/E Style being too reliant on finishers ending matches, but two PPV main events of Diesel not being able to do the Jackknife for the victory is pretty weak. I agree--bad, but not worse than the Sid feud. They really did try, but this was the equivalent of a one-off Spectrum main event between Hogan and a geek heel like the One Man Gang, not a legitimate PPV main event. Diesel gets an admittedly nice reaction for the win, but I can't imagine any fan seriously wanting to see this match.
ajtroma
I saw the match live on ppv. That was also the last time I ever saw it.
Superstar Sleeze
WWF World Heavyweight Champion Diesel vs. King Mabel - WWF Summerslam 1995 Summerslam 1995 has to go down as the weakest heel roster of any major promotion ever. The top 3 heels are Viscera as King Mabel, the Godfather as a fake UFC fighter and Kane as an Evil Dentist. That is fucking pathetic. No wonder 1995 is lambasted. On RAW prior to this, British Bulldog turned heel on Diesel and joined MOM in their "Royal Plan" on beating up Big Daddy Cool to wrest the WWF title from him. This angle essentially made this match a lame duck challenge as it was clear Diesel/Bulldog was the program for the Fall and Mabel was cooked. With Nitro debuting by the time RAW got back on the air, I think they felt like they needed to leave RAW with a hook for people to tune in. After watching more Mabel than I ever imagined I would, I can safely say this is the best Mabel match I have seen. Perhaps there are better Viscera or Big Daddy V matches, I do not know nor do I care to find out. Diesel worked overtime in this match. He threw himself into every bump and offensive move with tenacity and ferocity. Watch how he takes those bumps off the shoulder tackles. Or how he launches himself into the splashes into the corner or as a missile into Mabel's back to send him tumbling to the outside. KEVIN FUCKING NASH DOES A SLINGSHOT DIVE OVER THE TOP ROPE ONTO FLOOR CRASHING DOWN ON MABEL! How is this not talked about more! That looked better than 90% of "suicide" dives we see today. Great big boot on the floor. Mabel hits this weird Bossman Slam type move that looks like shit everytime he does it. It is transition to heat and it is god-awful. His belly to belly actually looks great and I wish he would just use that. MABLE ASS SPLASH!!! That looked fucking awesome and painful! The requisite chinlock which looks like shit. Mabel steamrolls the ref, they didnt even try to make it look like an accident. Mabel misses an elbow drop. Mo comes into double team Diesel. Lex Fucking Luger of all people comes out to make the save, but Diesel thinks he is Team MOM (because Luger was Bulldog's tag partner at the time) and slugs him. Mabel drops a massive leg drop on Diesel. Luger fights Mo to the back proving wrestlers can forgive one another for mistakes. Great Mabel Belly to Belly! 1-2-NO! Missed Mabel splash. Diesel didnt have a chance of hoisting his fat ass up for a powerbomb so it is a middle rope leaping forearm that gets the job done. I am surprised he didnt use the big boot. I wonder what the plan was for Lex Luger was if he didnt jump. Would it have been Diesel/Luger vs Bulldog/Yoko at the next PPV? Would Luger actually be annoyed Diesel slugged him first even though he was out there to help him so it would be Diesel/Shawn vs Luger/Bulldog? Luger was a much better fit for WCW so I think it worked out for everyone in the end. As for the match, greatly exceeded expectation and it is most definitely a good match. I really dont see how you call this a bad match. As much of a Sid mark as I am, this match was better than either of the Sid matches. Besides one chinlock, this was all action, Diesel was trying wicked hard, great offense and bumps from him and even Mabel had three great high spots. Easy thumbs up! *** 1/
