Gene gives us the hard sell for Mania. Brief promos interspersed from Dusty and Sapphire, Akeem, Big Boss Man ... and Steve Allen and Robert Goulet. Steve Allen's video in pun-riffic. And wow, that's A LOT of matches.

Okerlund is practically frothing at the mouth exhorting us to PICK UP THE PHONE AND CALL YOUR LOCAL CABLE COMPANY. DEMAND, DON'T REQUEST, WRESTLEMANIA VI: THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE. "Pay-per-view basis" is uttered approximately 8,000 times.

Liked seeing the entire card run down and Gene does seem legitimately excited with the real hard sell.

Gene with the WrestleMania hype segment and runs down the card. The mix tag seems to be billed as the second biggest match on the card. Lots of matches on the card. I like that Robert Goulet does his promo in a tux.

WWF should invest in a hype man like Okerlund to do segments like this before PPVs. I know they do some hard selling on the Raw before PPVs, but having somebody different from the announcers, somebody whose sole job is to get people excited for PPVs I think could make a small difference in the number of buys.

Also, is it wrong that I can't take Robert Goulet seriously after Will Ferrell's impersonation?

These are the pay-per-view rundowns I remember, and absolutely nobody could do them like Mean Gene.

 

Steve Allen stole the segment with his new single "Myself". It had a nice beat, and you could dance to it, albeit slowly.

Genes eyes look messed up. Whoa Robert Goulet is performing! Hahahaha. I've never seen this show, I'm very excited.

 

Edit: Genes eyes look like he's wearing those glasses with the open eyes painted on so he can nap. He looks like a freak.

Mean Gene can’t recall a match in WWF history that has ever been bigger than Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior! Gene runs down the full card for Wrestlemania and the mixed tag is being pushed second, followed by the Roddy Piper vs Bad News Brown match. There is an awful lot of filler on this show and at least half a dozen matches wouldn’t look out of place on Superstars. Interviews from Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire, Akeem and Slick and the Big Boss Man intersperse the run down, before Gene announces Rhythm & Blues will debut ‘Hunka Hunka Hunka Honky Love’, while celebrities like Steve Allen, Rona Barrett and Robert Goulet will be in attendance.

 

I thought it when I watched the Royal Rumble report, but Gene Okerlund is perfect for these. I can’t imagine anyone else doing a better job than him here.

A couple of those undercard matches looked really throwaway to me. Steve Allen was the highlight here.
