Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Last few minutes. Ax is working face in peril when we join the match. There's something off about the look, feel and sound of the Sky Dome on this show. It's a large crowd, but the camera angle and crowd noise doesn't really emphasize that very much. Demolition regain the tag titles after Andre gets stuck in the ropes and Haku falls victim to a Demolition Decapatation. Post-match, Heenan berates Andre. Andre finally has enough and slaps him around. He's officially a babyface. Haku is waiting from behind to attack him, but Andre runs him off too. This seems like it should have gotten a louder reaction. Again, something wasn't quite right in the way the show was filmed.
PeteF3
This was a sad match to watch in full as Haku literally works the entire bout. Even as they're trying to push dissension within the team it's clearly obvious that Andre has literally nothing left. The crowd pop gets dissipated by the stupid fucking music overdub, though now I wonder how the atmosphere would have been different if they'd opened the SkyDome roof. Andre gets to go out as a babyface (and it's clear that Heenan doesn't have much left physically himself).
soup23
Agree that the filming and sound is a little vacumnish but it is still astonishing to see a crowd this size for a wrestling event compared to what else we have seen so far. I have always loved this moment and think it is the perfect cap to Andre's stellar career.
flyonthewall2983
I always wondered why Andre didn't work the match, since he still worked matches in Japan until a few months before his death. The face turn is great, Bobby spitting "I'm the fucking boss" and poking him around after.
Kevin Ridge
Andre pretty much stays outside on the apron the whole match. Haku hits Andre in error and Demoltion put Haku away. Boo, not the real Demoltion music being played due to paying royalties. Heenan makes a big mistake hitting Andre in the face and The Giant smacks Bobby around. Haku tries the Giant himself and that doesn’t go too well. Andre’s last harrah. He takes the ring cart for himself and departs alone. Too bad he became a physical mess but nice to see him go out this way.
Cox
Man, it's just not the same without the Demolition theme music. At the risk of incurring the wrath of some of the folks on this board, the Demolition music was at least 50% of what made them so cool when I was a kid. The post match was a nice way for Andre's WWF career to end, with him going out as a babyface embarrassing Bobby Heenan. The match itself...eh, it's hard to even call it his last match since he does so little, but I'm guessing most of the Demolition/Colossal Connection matches on the road were similar. But the man was a physical mess at this point and would be dead within three years, so it's hard to blame him.

My friend Tighe threatened to kick me in the nuts for saying that Demolition were "bloated high school gym teachers with an S&M fetish" and that the Moondogs should have had classic figures made for them instead. garretta
Nice moment for the Giant, but in retrospect it should have happened earlier, when he could still work even a little. Maybe turn him at SummerSlam '88; run a similar miscommunication to what we saw here, only with Teddy or Virgil in Haku's place. Then run Andre/Teddy and Andre/Virgil, with Hogan or Savage being his partner in tag matches. Blow that off somehow at Mania V, and have that be the end for Andre as an active WWF competitor. I don't know about you, but I'd trade that for Andre's feuds with Jake and Warrior any day, especially Warrior. I think the Demos got a nice pop here, but as Pete said, the sound's off because of the music dubbing. It's kind of a shame the Road Warriors showed up when they did, because Vince felt the need to flush a perfectly fine team like the Demos down the toilet to accommodate them. I wonder if Hawk and Animal would have come in at all if they'd been ultimately booked to put the Demos over clean in the end, thus making the imitation superior to the original? Of course, Ax getting sick would have changed the whole dynamic anyway. Yeah, the Brain's not bumping like he used to. His days as a full-time "broadcast journalist" are coming sooner than almost all of us would like.
drew wardlaw
I like the shots of the crowd and stadium you can see behind Andre as he's leaving.
GSR
We join the match with Haku working on Ax. He makes the hot tag to Smash and you can tell Andre is in no state to wrestle, as after the hot tag, and with Smash beating on Haku, the Giant just watches on from the apron not even attempting to come in the ring to help his partner. Andre finally gets in the ring but a double clothesline by Demolition sees him slump backwards into the corner. Double beat down on Haku and the referee tries to get Ax out of there. Andre is back to his feet by now and grabs Smash. Haku goes for a thrust kick but Smash moves and he nails the Giant who falls backwards and gets tied up in the ropes. Heenan tries his best to free Andre but to no avail as a Demolition Decapitation on Haku sees them become the tag team champions again. Crowd were pretty hot for this. Heenan starts berating and prodding Andre after the match, but when he slaps him it’s a step too far. Andre paintbrushes Heenan (although one of these misses by a country mile) and Haku tries to attack him from behind, but the Giant sees him off too. He then throws them both off the cart for good measure before riding to the back. This was pretty much it for Andre as a wrestler in the WWF so it was nice for him to go out as a babyface with some cheers and get this ‘goodbye’. cactus
Haku has to carry the workload for his team as Andre is relegated to standing on the apron and attacking Ax or Smash whenever they come into his reach. The action here is rudimentary and unsophisticated as one would expect. Andre finally enters into the ring as an illegal man and Demolition double clothesline him into his corner. A miscommunication by the heels sees Andre getting himself tied up in the ropes and Demolition hit their finish on Haku to a monster ovation. Andre gets chewed out by Bobby Heenan after the match and Andre starts slapping him around before leaving on his own as the crowd cheer him on. This was an abysmal match with a good finish and a truly bittersweet post match. ★★
