Loss
It's not exactly comfortable to watch Percy Pringle wrestle, but it's especially uncomfortable to watch Chris Von Erich wrestle. He's a miniature Kerry Von Erich who is trying so hard but just isn't very good. Pringle tries too, but Pringle isn't really a wrestler. This is a flat match aside from Austin's awesome bumping, and it shows how much Jeanne and Toni added to this feud when they aren't around. Chris Von Erich plays FIP in a choice I don't understand AT ALL and Austin has to carry him. He does a good job, which shows how well he's coming along. Von Erich gets the pin after a middle rope sunset flip and Pringle starts choking him out immediately after. The heels doubleteam him until Adams runs them off with a chair. PeteF3
Pretty sure this is Chris' one and only match that exists on tape. It's a rough sight. Supposedly Chris' asthma was so bad that he needed a doctor at ringside and he once broke one or both arms doing a dropkick. And he looks particularly absurd trying to work with Austin. Dude had no business in the ring at all. But Fritz pushed Mike into the ring--I guess he wasn't going to stop another son who genuinely wanted to do it. He and Pringle really do try, but not only are they not wrestlers, their opening sequence goes WAY too long. Adams and Austin pick things up with Adams throwing out some new offense and Austin bumping like a lunatic. Kind of a clever finish as Austin is slingshotted into the turnbuckles and accidentally tags in Percy, who's quickly beaten down by Adams and pinned by Von Erich with a sunset flip off the top. Pringle and Austin get in some shots on Von Erich afterward before Adams runs them off with a chair. I dunno...as little as I want to see Chris Von Erich actually wrestle, he logically SHOULD have been the FIP. Even being a Von Erich in Texas he's obviously the weak link of the team. There sometimes exists a major disconnect between what makes sense from a storyline standpoint and what makes sense from a "good work" standpoint. Had he had any physical strength at all he could have at least made for a decent sympathy babyface. I'm amazed at how much I'm enjoying heel Pringle, after absolutely hating his first run in the promotion with Rick Rude. He's fat here but not super-morbidly obese. Pretty sure we wouldn't ever see Paul Bearer taking somersault bumps.
shoe
Watching Chris V.E is like watching Kerry's mini work. Having a V.E feuding with a manager just doesn't feel right. Austin was so big in his bumping.
soup23
Austin was pretty rough beating on Von Erich considering how brittle he was. I give this a pretty big pass because I thought it was pretty obvious to how excited you could tell Chris was to be out there and Percy tried to lead him along as much as his physical limitations would allow. Certainly not the best this feud has to offer but a worthy addition and a change of pace from the stuff with the ladies.
Kevin Ridge
Von Erich and Pringle are treated like equals in the ring. Adams tags in Von Erich just to pin Austin. He tags back out once Austin kicks out. Adams does the offense moves, tags out, Von Erich can’t pin Austin, tags back out immediately. Chris is prety useless. Von Erich actually gets the pin over Pringle but can’t even celebrate he he gets attacked.
BackToBionic
Where natural athletes David and Kerry once stood, now is little weak Chris. Pretty interesting metaphor for the Dallas territory as a whole.
ajtroma
Yes, you can certainly see the metaphorical comparisons of Chris and the entire Dallas territory but Im going to be positive (kinda) here. Chris might be a pioneer. You can now, on any weekend, go to random indy show within driving distance of your home and see tiny, unathletic, no-need-to-be-in-the-ring, "workers". Blaze the path, Chris.
garretta
I thought Percy and CVE acquitted themselves well. They didn't (and couldn't) do much, but their few basic sequences weren't too bad. At least they could work holds, unlike Jeannie and Toni. Adams and Austin were decent, but you can tell they want to put a ribbon on the CVE/Percy stuff, at least in the ring, so they get most of the time. Austin obviously dominates CVE, as he should, and Adams dominates Percy, as he should. Nice to see a USWA feud end with a clean pinfall for once, as CVE gets the winning fall over Percy with a sunset flip that's pretty athletic, considering who it's from. We still get a postmatch beatdown on CVE, but this time Adams makes the save before the viewers turn old and gray. Should CVE have been a wrestler? Almost certainly not. But if he was bound and determined to be one, they booked him and used him as well as they possibly could. It's too bad he was so hung up on being an actual wrestler, as he might have been a decent manager with a little more polish on the mic. He had the gift of gab; all he needed was the experience to go with it. Unfortunately, he wouldn't have gotten it in USWA Texas regardless, as they only had three weeks to run. Interesting to hear the details of Percy's suspension. He isn't really missed on commentary, as Craig is slowly but surely learning his craft. drew wardlaw
More sadness as Chris Von Erich has a match. Wait, is this his first match? I actually think he did a good job with Austin really giving it to him.
GSR
Chris Von Erich looks like a mini-Kerry so much when he is making his way down the aisle to the ring. I had low expectations for this, but it was better than I thought it would be. The faces clean the ring straightaway, and we get about three minutes of Pringle and Von Erich to open up. I felt Percy was the better of the two here, helped primarily by his selling and his stooging. He is a manager, and not a wrestler, so things are not ‘supposed’ to look smooth and crisp. Chris had a super slow drop toe hold, looks uncertain running the ring ropes, bumps awkwardly and has one of the worst dropkicks you’ll ever see. He looks like someone who is at the start of his wrestling training, which he probably is, but because of his surname we’re seeing that ‘training’ on TV in front of a crowd instead of behind closed doors. The action picks up when Austin and Adams are in there, and Adams has such a mean looking clothesline that impresses me every time I see it. Austin takes a great bump halfway across the ring when Adams kicks his legs out from under him. On a few occasions Adams would tag Von Erich in to try and get the pin, however as soon as Austin would kick out, he’d tag the Gentleman back in. Nice enziguiri, but he tags in Von Erich one too many times as Austin is able to grab him and preventing him from tagging out after he kicks out of the cover. The heels get the heat on Von Erich, which was pretty good, with Austin in charge and Percy getting in a few licks too. Bronco misses a tag to Adams behind his back, before Von Erich is finally able to get the hot tag to him. He catapults Austin into the corner but he accidentally tags Percy in the process. He doesn’t want to get in there, but Adams brings him in anyway and he is on his knees begging for him not to do anything. Adams unloads on him, superkick to the mid-section and Von Erich comes off the top with a sunset flip for the pin. The heels immediately jump them after the match with Percy choking Von Erich. Adams is getting the better of Austin until he tosses him over the top rope to the floor. Austin with a powerslam on Von Erich and Adams is back in there with a chair. He gets a shot in on Austin, while Percy has already made his escape and the two of them head back to the dressing room. I missed the ladies being at ringside for this. The opening few minutes when it was Percy and Von Erich wasn’t very good, but that’s my only real complaint about this. The match was laid out smartly, Von Erich never was on top against Austin, and he’d only come in to make a cover on him and then tag straight back out. He took a beating off Austin getting in zero offense, and was only in again for the sunset flip finish. Percy was exactly what you’d expect a heel manager to be with his cheating, stooging and backing off and the one who dropped the fall. Obligatory post match beating to leave Team Adams laying after the match!
dawho5
Chris in the ring is horrendous. But you gotta give him points for trying I guess. Austin is coming along so well. Pringle is one of the highlights of this feud for me now. He's really good at playing the cowardly heel manager. Heel beatdown again...hooray?
