Sting gets the WOTY award. That's some wild face paint.

 

Then we segue to Dusty Rhodes announcing to the crowd that he is back in an emotional promo that I really enjoyed.

I didn't realize people moved that quickly from WWF to WCW back then. I'm guessing Dusty (Dustin too, maybe) didn't even leave Florida between the Rumble and then.

Man Dusty promo blew me away. It was so good it blew away all the exploitation pieces in the WWF with Hogan at the time.

Dusty REALLY IS home again, cutting a strong promo in support of the troops and President Bush. That's how you acknowledge world events on a wrestling program.

The Dusty promo blew me away. Such heart and emotion were displayed.

Apter is on the WCW payroll giving all these PWI awards to their wrestlers. How can Sting win Wrestler of the Year missing 3-4 months?

 

Dusty puts over the troops in the Middle East also. Don’t be talking bad about the President. Dusty is back where he belongs.

Dusty's promo said it all. It was probably one of his best, and it had absolutely no wrestling content whatsoever. I wonder if it was partially done out of frustration with the way Vince was shamelessly using the war to not only paint Sarge as a turncoat, but prop him up as a wrestler when he had next to nothing left. Regardless of the reason, it was tremendous, and you can tell that the crowd loved it as well.

 

It's a pity that WCW didn't think as much of the Stinger in 1990 as his fans obviously did. Other than the win over Flair at the Bash, 1990 stank for him, and dreadful booking (Black Scorpion, anyone?) was the main reason why. Maybe with Dusty back in the booker's chair (and safely retired), 1991 will turn out better.

One of the posters above captured my feeling on this. Dusty is back home. Love ya big Dust! Anyone else think these WOTY and other awards were just WCW-booked hype at this point?
