Loss
Embry has turned in Texas. The turn is still fresh. So the Gary Young run-in to assist him in putting the boots to Bill Dundee after the match has the crowd much hotter than normal. This was a really good match and I didn't mind the DQ finish one bit since this was the start of a feud.
shoe
I really enjoyed this. The brawling on the floor with the pace being ratcheted up was great. Both guys throwing bombs at one another. A pair if pros having a good match .
PeteF3
Embry is now a full-fledged heel in Texas well, aligned with Tojo Yamamoto. He insists that the Sportatorium is still his family, though. I'm going to have to track this angle down. Even Tony Falk gives Embry a public browbeating. Dundee goes NUTS outside the ring, just heaving a chair at him on the floor. There is some great brawling on the floor and great headbutts thrown by Dundee, until Gary Young assaults Dundee and Billy Travis comes out to even the sides. The Embry turn is treated as a really monumental deal, as well it should be. I was surprised at how much more I liked this than Jarrett/Gilbert--this is really one of Embry's better singles matches. Kevin Ridge
Embry has done the heel turn in USWA-TX too. Referee stops the match and gets on the mic and just to tell Embry that he makes him sick to his stomach. That’s different and if I’m Embry I’m not happy with such a biased referee. I wish USWA Memphis got this much time for their matches. Embry gets back at the referee at the end. Ref had that one coming.
soup23
Nasty little brawl which is what I was hoping for in Lawler vs. Gilbert. Weapons used, punches being thrown around, and overall a lot of hatred heating up the feud. Embry being newly minted heel helped the crowd reaction. This is probably a match that wont rate on my top 100 but is really good and would get a high recommendation for fans of Dundee or Embry. garretta
The match itself takes second place to Embry's brand-new heel turn, which is kind of a shame as this was a nasty little scrap. I hope they continue this part of the program in Memphis at some point, because these two are a perfect matchup for each other. There was no pretense of wrestling; these two just wanted to beat the hell out of each other and anyone else who got in the way, which they did. I kind of wondered why Prichard wasn't in Embry's corner until I remembered that Tojo and Akbar had worked together to put Embry out during the dying days of World Class. Thus, seeing the two of them on the same side would be a huge deal to the Dallas fans. The same thing goes for Young, whom Embry seems to have fought on every single Dallas area card for the last three years. The fact that they're working together demonstrates better than anything else just how low Embry has sunk. I don't know if I like Falk getting on the mic to chastise Embry, but it sets up the spot where he eats a DDT from Embry after the match, so I'll live with it. Good point by Prichard about how Embry should have asked for another ref, though he wouldn't have gotten one. Prichard's Piper imitation wasn't really all that galling to me, although how sounding like a Canadian who's supposed to be Scottish and currently lives in Portland helps to get one over as a Texan I can't begin to guess. Maybe he should have borrowed his brother Bruce's Dusty Rhodes imitation for this angle instead. By the way, I know that the Memphis and Dallas offices are now integrated, but are Embry and Prichard supposed to be partners in Dallas, or is that solely for the Memphis loop? dawho5
Really good brawl. I love the heat on Embry now that he's with Tojo and Young. Hell, just seeing Embry and Young working together is a great little shock in and of itself.
