A commercial for the new WCW trading cards. I had the whole set! They were great, but I preferred the first version that had the black border with gold stars. More Flair marketing!

 

Then, we get a rapping commercial to hype the Great American Bash. PN News's voice is so obviously overdubbed, but they may have picked someone even worse than him to do it. WCW I guess felt that every PPV headlined by Flair vs Luger needed rap.

Man I had *completely* forgotten about those cards with the black border and gold stars, but can absolutely picture them now. Probably in a box at my parent's apt with all my other sports cards.

These cards are lost on me, though as an obsessive collecting sort I'd have likely been all over these if I'd known of them.

 

The production on PN News' video actually isn't terrible, but wow...on the soulness scale he makes Michael Bolton sound like DMX.

Never got into wrestling trade cards. Just baseball for me for a one or two year stretch. I collected Topps full year either 89 or 90 I think. Must be somewhere at my parents house. Another crap rap from PN News.

Those cards were awesome and I had a good bit of both sets and still do. The WWF ones from around this period were also top notch.

 

Rap sucked and 14 days out, were still promoting Flair.

I'll bet a lot of teenage boys made sure they collected the Missy Hyatt card.

 

If that really was PN News rapping, no wonder the fans laughed at the gimmick. If it wasn't, maybe they should have used him; he certainly couldn't have sounded worse than this. At least the WrestleWar '90 rap sounded slightly authentic. This sounded like one of the older Turner executives had his lunch held hostage until he agreed to get in front of a microphone. Could a so-called major card possibly be more poorly promoted than Bash '91 was?

It did amuse me that Missy got top billing right after Luger, Sting and Flair, just no mention from the announcer. A wink is as good as a nudge, right? Eh guvnah? PN News rapping about Ric Flair makes me sad.
