NintendoLogic Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 I figured this would be a fun question to ask given all the matwork fans on this board. If you were to create a matwork primer, what matches would you include? I'm not necessarily talking about the best grappling you've ever seen, more like textbook examples of fairly basic stuff executed at a high level. Off the top of my head, I'd say something like El Dandy/Black Warrior would be a good example.
Kevin Ridge Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Normally, I defer to Parv on this type of question. I think I'm at the point now when it comes to talking about mat work that the first thing that pops in to my mind is Lucha. I'd had Casas versus Santo and Dandy against Azteca that were immediate picks.
Matt D Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 You know I did see this Billy Robinson vs Nick Bockwinkel match tonight.
JerryvonKramer Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Billy Robinson vs Nick Bockwinkel This. [/thread]
Loss Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 El Dandy vs Angel Azteca, El Dandy vs Negro Casas and Volk Han vs Kiyoshi Tamura are the first matches that come to mind for me, but there are dozens more that fit the bill.
PeteF3 Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Since I was beaten to my go-to suggestion of Robinson vs. Bockwinkel--Clive Myers vs. Steve Grey from '75.
Bix Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 In addition to the above, these are some of my favorites: Blue Panther vs El Mariachi (Solar I) from AAA in 1994 Solar I & Super Astro vs Blue Panther & Sergio El Hermoso from WWA in 1987 Osamu Nishimura vs Bas Rutten from NJPW in 2002 Clive Myers vs Young David (Davey Boy Smith) from Joint Promotions in 1981
Eduardo Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 El Dandy vs Javier Llanes (1994), Atlantis vs Blue Panther (1991 and 1997).
