JerryvonKramer
I swear to god I saw him do one once. And just doing a quick google, the Internet is full of people saying the same thing, although can't find footage. Weird.
Jimmy Redman
I think there was talk of him doing one in OVW when he went there to retrain in 2002ish. Not on TV, and no footage of it exists.
JerryvonKramer
I'm thinking of the run, maybe late 90s, early 00s, when he was doing more athletic stuff. This was around the time he did some impressions too. What did he do if it wasn't a moonsault? Came of the top in some shape or fashion. Maybe also a kip-up or something like that. Angle was around so it must have been after 1998. Shane was around too.
Dylan Waco
One thing about Big Show v. Andre comparison, is that if you are like JVK and feel Andre gets a bit of a pass for his down periods and inconsistency, but you also think Show is good....I'm not trying to be provocative here, but Show smokes Andre in terms of volume of good matches on tape, and while I prefer Andre's best stuff, I think Show's best stuff is really great, with a genius Mayweather performance that is great in a way we never saw out of Andre. Don't get me wrong. I'm not arguing for Show over Andre. But f you are someone who accepts the idea that he's been a good worker for a long time, and your critique of Andre is volume, inconsistency, dogging it...well. JerryvonKramer
Let me pull out those two ratings, I think the comparison is interesting: Andre Basic (offense, selling, psychology) 0/3 1/3 3/3 = 4 Intangibles 10 Great matches 3 Length of Peak 74-83 = 9 years = 6 +1 ability to work heel +1 ability to work tags +1 ability to adapt himself to work the style of local promotion +3 ability to get over in multiple markets (every territory, Mexico, Japan) Ability to work different styles / roles = 6 1. Killer Khan, 2. Stan Hansen, 3. Hulk Hogan, 4. Harley Race, 5. Randy Savage, 6. Nick Bockwinkel, 7. Inoki, 8. Baron Scicluna / Jerry Valiant, 9. The Sheik Variety = 9 opponents = 4 33 Big Show Basic (offense, selling, psychology) 1/3 1/3 1/3 (+1 "agile for a big man") = 4 Intangibles 5 Great matches 2 Length of Peak [never one of the best in the world] = 0 +1 ability to work heel +1 ability to work different gimmicks ("The Giant") +1 ability to work gimmick matches +1 ability to work tags Ability to work different styles / roles = 4 Variety = 7 22 If you take off the 6 I've given Andre for peak, it's 27 plays 22. And what are those five points? The intangibles.
Matt D
If I feel up to pulling apart another Henry match, I'll likely end up with a Show vs Henry one, and then i'd look at all the things Show does well too. Not sure though. The first one didn't exactly move mountains and I'm on borrowed time.
Jingus
What did he do if it wasn't a moonsault? Came of the top in some shape or fashion. Maybe also a kip-up or something like that. Angle was around so it must have been after 1998. Shane was around too. He's done an elbow drop off the top a whole bunch of times. Missile dropkicks off the top on at least two or three occasions. And yeah, I've seen the kip-up too. If I feel up to pulling apart another Henry match, I'll likely end up with a Show vs Henry one, and then i'd look at all the things Show does well too. It's an interesting comparison, because Henry often moves just as slowly as Show does; would everyone on Team Big Slow have the same complaint about Mark? Johnny Sorrow
, the Internet is full of people saying the same thing, The Big Show moonsault thing is a myth. The story goes he tried one while training at the Power Plant and he was yelled at for trying it. And there's been folks who've said that was an urban legend. JerryvonKramer
Well I had no idea about that myth. I honestly thought I remembered seeing him do it on a RAW once. Completely independently of whatever this is. I'm not plugged into the IWC "out there", you know that. But it is quite mental that this is an urban myth. Eduardo
Yeah, I've watched pretty much every moment of his career as it happened, and Big Show has never done a moonsault (on TV/video/etc). Also yeah, that story/rumor of him attempting one at the Power Plant (or being capable of doing one) has been around since I first got on the internet in early 1997. Timbo Slice
Show will probably not make my list, but he does have some standout stuff that really makes you realize how good he was. It's weird to think that a guy like him doesn't have more great monster matches under his belt, but there you go. A lot of that has to do with his presentation and his push, but in a vacuum, he's got a tremendous set of matches that still stand up (SD! Eddy match, first ADR LMS match, first couple Brock matches, the great Taker SD match to establish the KO punch, of course the Floyd match). He's right there in that Owen Hart range for me. Microstatistics
He is a pick I used to scoff at but have come around on after giving his most praised work a shot. Seems like a solid 150-101 pick with potential to sneak into the main list. He really hit his stride in 2008 but had strong runs before that as well. I'd rate all these around ***1/2-***3/4 right now, with some other stuff (vs. Undertaker at No Mercy 2008, vs. Roman Reigns 2015 LMS) yet to be checked out vs. Brock Lesnar (WWE, 5/18/2003) vs. Eddie Guerrero (WWE, 4/15/2004) w/ McMahons vs. Shawn Michaels/Triple H (WWE, 9/17/2006) vs. Floyd Mayweather (WWE, 3/30/2008) vs. Mark Henry (WWE, 10/23/2011) --> Best Henry match I've seen vs. Sheamus (WWE, 10/28/2012) vs. Alberto Del Rio (WWE, 1/8/2013) --> Best Alberto match I've seen
Rah
Have you seen the Alberto vs Kalisto LMS match from Smackdown? That's probably Del Rio's master performance.
