Draft discussion, analysis and trash talk

Was wondering how long it would take until we got to the Leo Burkes and Ron Starrs of the draft.

While updating the rosters thread I decided to rank the top 5 rosters I would want to watch. Mine is not actually included in that. This is totally subjective, not ranking of "the best" and may solely be down to one or two personal favorites being on the roster.

Honestly I'm just happy things have gone well since the Ronnie Garvin debacle. LaFon & Brunzell to me had two really great aspects to it.

1. LaFon as a young, high flying babyface could learn a lot from a guy like Brunzell. And the team just seems right.

2. LaFon is a great heel who can one day turn on Brunzell and create a feud in the process.

The tag feud with the Tongans seems like a good way to get both into prominent roster spots as faces and heels also. I didn't think I'd be as lucky as I was with my first 7 picks netting me 4 really good (on paper, for the role they are designed to play) tag teams. I was thinking I'd have to scrounge over the next few drafts to find viable tag teams.

I am just glad someone else is doing a tag team heavy promotion. I definitely would like to get your Tongan team in for a run against The Fabs later...or Kinga Tonga & Mr. Saito seems like instant death team now that I think of that combo.

And somehow I keep forgetting you have The Midnights.

Awesome, thanks for the appreciation. And we can obviously say that your roster is better than anything Southwest would have been able to put on at the time so good going there.

Going through the available names to update my depth chart and there is one person who I think has been severely undervalued. The problem is I am not sure that he has any real value to me in the vision I currently have laid out. Makes me next pick tough. I almost hope he's off the board by that point.

I think I know who this is too. I think he's getting hurt by hindsight if it's same guy.

Please don't let this be the same guy I'm think of.

Edit - I pick before both of you so if he gets taken it won't be you I get frustrated at.

I do not know if that is a backhanded compliment :) Southwest was not very good except a couple bright spots here and there. Felt like an easy "I could do better than THAT!" territory. Plus it has Tully & it's Texas.

Not intentionally. Basically everyone on there, but Saito and DVE were high on my list. I didn't even bother ranking Gilbert which in hindsight was a mistake. However, I probably wouldn't have even considered taking him until around this point.

Since you're going to be rotating guys in and out relatively quickly, we could be talking about exchanges sometime down the line.

Duggan eats a lot and needs to be fed new heels. Saito needs to stretch his legs sometimes and needs to travel and everyone gets sick of Tully being in the locker room so Joe needs to send his son out to calm things down for a week or two every once in a while.

I am always open to working out almost any deal that doesn't see me lose The Fabs or Duggan for more than a week or two at a time.

Here is a question to start shit: Which roster is the most capable of going national? Right now I would say AWA but that's dependent on whether they can feed the Road Warriors enough to keep them growing.

National? Maple Leaf could easily run anywhere in Canada and be a big deal.

The amount of thought, time and effort some of you guys are putting into this are making me feel justified in my decision not to play long. I'm coming into a rough 3-4 week work period and I know I would have wanted to go all out on this.

You can be my booking assistant in a month when you have more free time.

So, Garea?

Let me lay this out. First, I don't have picks for the next two rounds. Second, from November 8, 1980 to March 7, 1981 and from July 21, 1981 to October 13, 1981 Tony Garea and Rick Martel were WWF World Tag Team Champions. Martel is my ace and it will be nice for him to mix it up in some tags to keep things fresh.

I hope to have the hottest feud/angle of all-time later in the year. Think of Martel and Garea's friendship. Think of how awesome both of their hair is. Look at my great set of heels. There is big time money to be made!

Tony Garea, baby!

Have at least 3 picks before him, so was just waiting to get him cheap / almost free.

Between him and Rodz, my lower card has taken a bit of a knock.

Maybe I can just get Brisco-Dory to go 60 minutes every single night so eleveate the need for a mid-card at all, lol.

I'm glad I picked him early then.

I know we have a deal to send me talent for the MSG show, but I don't want no Dory-Brisco broadways on my show.
