When you put it like that Steven, good point.

You might try the never seen Martel vs. Garea money angle too, when the old disco king finally gets jealous of the young stud.

I'll give you that for free!

I have a plan with a twist that may or may not include that.

Having a small territory is really a benefit in this. I will never even consider making a split crew card. Without looking over all the rosters again, I feel Florida might be best situated right now for doing split crew shows.

Joking aside (and there has been joking), I'm glad to see that so many people drafted so differently. Some people created a territory that looked a lot like the real territory. Others created one that would feel like the real territory but had different players. Others went completely different, etc. It should make things interesting moving forward.

What is "success"? There isn't going to be any metric to tell what is and isn't "drawing" or anything like that.

Success for me will be able to keep things moving in San Antonio if this project lasts long enough for me to get through the first 8 months of planned angles & storylines. And making Duggan & The Fabs work as the top 2 babyfaces of a small territory without getting stale matchups.

I already have a trade deal finished in principle that takes care of a lot of my Duggan needs. Hell I even got an angle planned out for Mike Jackson that I love. One person I told hated it, the other liked it so I guess it'll get a mixed reaction when it takes place.

Success for me is not selling out to Vince and keeping the territory alive in '84. I haven't read the Stampede book, so I'm not sure exactly why this happened since '83 seems like some incredibly solid business for Stu.

I figure holding on to the Hart Foundation and the Bulldogs and pitting them against a fresh crop of rotating heels is a setup for success. Of course I'd like to have a worker like Bock as my established top heel, but that's not really how the territory functioned anyhow. I'll bring Harley up when Bret needs to lace some boots.

Success is national expansion across Canada and be the lone Canadian promotion standing coast to coast. Maple Leaf Wrestling will be in Canada what the WWF became in the US or else!

Or maybe the goal is to have fun and book the most entertaining promotion possible?

Oh, I don't know if anyone else thought a whole lot about promos in their drafting, but I did. I wanted to have guys that I thought I could hit their notes and have some lines for them that would feel natural.

Tully Blanchard and Assassin #1 are two all time heel promos and guys who have a very clear style & cadence that I think I can give them some short lines from a "summarized promo" that would feel like something Tully or The Assassin would say to "wrap up" an interview.

The Fabs & Duggan on the babyface side are no slouches and I can work with Stan & Steve lines too. I will need to watch some more Dugaan promos from Mid-South to get a better feel for him though. Then I have Mike Davis & Eddie Gilbert who wouldn't be realistic as great talkers yet in July, 1983 but by July, 1984? I think they were ready then to be handed the mic and deliver.

Matt D analysis on who is best set up for success at this point please?

I will not run from being put on the spot but i will deflect.

Success is a tricky metric, as mentioned, but I know the ones I am most interested in.

Sometimes it's just seeing how someone fits into a territory, like Adonis in GCW. I have full faith in Kris to hit the ground running with that. He has a roster that hits his region's sweet spot perfectly but adds a few new elements. WWC is like that too as Kris and Boricua obviously know their stuff.

I know some of goc's plans for Southeastern and I'm looking forward to seeing them play out. That, like Central States, is a territory that was so handicapped in real life that any improvement is a success. Then you get a place like Portland which did okay but now has some new elements to take it a bit more over the top.

ICW being weird and surreal and outlaw should be fun too.

Everyone's put thought into this but it's kind of mad to see the amount around Maple Leaf and WWF. I wonder if you guys have been doing anything BUT this lately.

On paper, though, I think best balance of hitting the right tone + adding interesting elements, is probably Florida, especially after the trade for Hennig.

Ultimately, I don't think anyone had a bad draft. There are some territories which were not done the way I would have, mind you. In the end, it's all down to the booking.

I like Matt's take although I'm Southwest not Southeastern. I for one look forward to seeing what Boon has in mind for Southeastern more than anything else. I haven't even tried to get any of his ideas about what he wants to do from him despite the fact we have worked more closely on trades than anyone.

I also think that RocketCrypt has hit a home run with Florida. I still have some work to shore up my midcard but RocketCrypt has like his top 3-5 matches on the card already.

Southeastern is one of those promotions (like Memphis and on some level AWA) which just feels very much like it should feel. The rosters are spot on but not very interesting to me because they're so spot on (which isn't a bad thing by any means. I'm just wanting chaos) and it'll be in the booking.

goc is, of course, Southwest, and we'll keep being confused about that as we move forward.

I will admit that part of my interest in Boon's Southeastern is seeing a British guy take what is more or less a real 1983 roster of one of the most, if not the most, Southern territory available and how he re-imagines it.

I hope Boon doesn't take that the wrong way I mean it the best way possible. I am truly looking forward to seeing what he does.
