KrisZ
Kris Zellner & David Bixenspan are joined by Les Moore (Sheet Sandwich) to discuss the week that was August 25-31, 1991. We discuss Ultimate Warrior threatening WWF, Randy Savage threatening to quit, Bruno Sammartino threatening Mark Madden, Riki Choshu threatening to retire, & Ric Flair threatening to sue everyone!!!! http://placetobenation.com/between-the-sheets-6-august-25-31-1991/
Happ Hazzard
I'm listening to the show now so you might correct yourselves later on, but the Natural Disasters never beat the LOD for the tag titles. Money Inc did, and the Natural Disasters beat them.
KrisZ
That is right.....I forgot about that whole deal where Jimmy Hart got Money Inc. the shot and pissed off the Disasters who turned face.....thanks man
Matt D
These are getting me through work this week. I just got through #5 and am starting here. I'm looking forward to this one because it's probably the absolute sweet spot of me watching wrestling as a kid.
sturm316
The Flair/Piper encounter on WWF Superstars is often mistaken as the first time Vince was physically involved in an angle. While it was definitely the first time for WWF fans of the 80s and 90s, he was involved in a somewhat similar angle in 1977 during their WWF Manager of the Year presentation. Lou Albano whacked Arnold Skaaland with the trophy and sent both Arnold and Vince over the top rope. Search "1977 Manager of the Year" to check out the segment. KrisZ
Good call on that one and yes it was the first time Vince got involved.
Parties
Man, this week might have been my own zenith as a young fan too. Three of the most etched wrestling memories I have are the snake in the wedding present, pastel jacket Vince getting KOed at that weird announcer podium, and the post-Jailhouse match segment of the Mountie being forcibly fingerprinted and belligerently yelling "You can't take my picture!" to a mugshot photographer. Same with Warrior being sealed into the casket - which I don't think was literally this week but did get a mention on the show. Good call on the idea that WWF got weirdly dark out of the blue here: whoever was booking during this time was doing a killer job at traumatizing children. cheapshot
Thank you for recording these shows, they're always fun and very insightful.
Matt D
I think there would have been an upside to having Taker in the Summerslam main event as part of the heel team instead of Adnan if they wanted to make it mean more. Also, it meant a big deal to me as a kid that Warrior was gone, if only because the Jake angle was SO distinct and striking and they never even faced off once. WrestlingPower
Good show so far. I just popped in here to say I popped at the Ace/Motoko Baba stuff. That was one of the first "secrets" I was told when I started going to Japan in 2000.
WrestlingPower
Gary Rich was most definitely not Butch Masters. He debuted in the VWA (EARLY VA independent group that ran from 1988-1992ish) as The Intimidator and was more of a bodyguard type. He was a legit like 7'0" and was a former UofR basketball player. He only started wrestling as Gary Masters here after his Dragon Master days. He also went to Japan for W*ING or some low level indy group as Dragon Master. He was NEVER any good but was given repeated chances or rumors of chances simply due to his height and was certainly on the radar of people at the time. I remember him being rumored for SMW & WWF for several years there in the early 90s.
KrisZ
Yeah I knew they weren't the same person....
Cross Face Chicken Wing
Do you guys remember how long WCW was on KMSP in the Twin Cities? The little kid version of me watched AWA religiously on Sunday mornings on KMSP, but I don't remember WCW taking the time slot......
Matt D
Did Harvey really manage Papa Shango? I don't remember that at all.
KrisZ
I think it was for a short time Regarding KMSP I don't know how long it lasted
sturm316
Did Harvey really manage Papa Shango? I don't remember that at all. It was a common belief that Harvey was managing/going to manage Shango following his interference during the Hogan vs Sid match at Wrestlemania 8, but to my knowledge there was no further interaction between the two before or after WM. hammerva
Just curious is there an actual link to the MP3 download of the show? I want to put it on my phone for a road trip and I can't seem to get the download button on top of Soundcloud to show up. Probably just a Samsung thing and not an issue with the site
bradhindsight
We'll get that download button flagged, thanks.

I want to put it on my phone for a road trip and I can't seem to get the download button on top of Soundcloud to show up. Probably just a Samsung thing and not an issue with the site I use a Samsung Galaxy S5. Turn your phone sideways. The soundcloud window is cropped so you can't see the download button unless it's sideways. Let me know if that worked!

JerryvonKramer
Savage stuff was interesting on this show. Puts Vince's view of him in 94 in a whole different light.
Beast
I don't know what you've already planned out schedule-wise, but having just been reminded of it for the first time in a few years, I'd love for the 10/27 - 11/2 episode to be about 1993 so we hear about the Arn/Sid scissor fight.
