KrisZ Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 Kris & David are joined by Dave Prazak (SHIMMER) to discuss the week that was November 10-16, 1996. We discuss Curt Hennig jumping to WCW and how WCW botched most of the guys that jumped in this era. We also discuss Great Sasuke’s influence on wrestling, Chris Jericho’s adventures in Japan, Antonio Pena losing his mind over La Parka jumping to Promo Azteca/WCW, ECW with a memorable November to Remember, and Randy Savage in WWF in 1996…it almost happened….this is a LONG but AWESOME show!!!!! cheapshot Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 Regarding the Lloyds Of London claims, it seems like Brian Adams was another who had a policy, as was Nikita Koloff.
KrisZ Posted November 16, 2015 Author Report Posted November 16, 2015 Yep you are correct on Nikita but Adams I'm not sure of
Mad Dog Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 The sound quality is fantastic this week.
GSR Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 Re: Adams - in Meltzer's obituary of him, he says that he suffered a career ending spine injury in All Japan in 2003 and was believed to be collecting on a Lloyds of London permanent disability settlement.
KrisZ Posted November 16, 2015 Author Report Posted November 16, 2015 Ah yes that is correct....I forgot about the AJPW thing
Stosh Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 Your list of guests lately has been killer. Looking forward to listening to this.
PeteF3 Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 Zambia actually did have its own wrestling scene in the 1950s and '60s, going back to its days as Northern Rhodesia.
elliott Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 This is the Roddy Piper music video Kris and Bix talked about and it is the funniest goddamn thing I've ever seen.
SomethingSavage Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 This is the Roddy Piper music video Kris and Bix talked about and it is the funniest goddamn thing I've ever seen. Allegedly.
SlingshotSuplex Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Another fantatic show. I had hoped Prazak would be on someday. "Hollywood" John Tatum was great, and I particularly liked the Tatum & Victory combo. Shimmer really was the revolution before there was a revolution. The current NXT/WWE women's wrestling dynamic simply doesn't happen without Shimmer. Meltizer was definitely being picky, but ECW conversations then and even now tend be so ideologically loaeded that it can be difficult to have a reasonable conversation about the company's strenghts and weaknesses.
pantherwagner Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I mentioned this to Bix and Kris privately yesterday but I remember being in Zambia and watching CMLL TV in a local channel with their own commentators. This would have been in 2011. Also I was the guy who said that Kawada's ramen shop wasn't very good. He's the cook and his wife is the waitress. As anybody that has seen him recently can attest, he doesn't look like Kawada: no shoulders, chest or arms, and when I saw him he was clean shaven and had TEETH. He looked like a stoic surly fucker though so there's that. Good on him for moving on and becoming a civilian.
WrestlingPower Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Loving the show so far. Much looser than normal with all the jokes & drug talk. It's like Prazak was locked up somewhere & just was let loose to talk and has all this built up.
PeteF3 Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 '96 Cornette was evidently flashing back to the days of less quality control: there's a TBS interview where he makes the exact same burglar-rape joke, about Baby Doll.
WrestlingPower Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 It's actually a Rodney Dangerfield joke. Pretty sure Cornette told it on the "Backstage at the Bash 1987".
