Isn't taking another luchador's hair a huge honor? Shouldn't they all be doing everything they can to stay in the cage? I guess the flip would be that it's a great dishonor to lose it, so you wouldn't want to take the risk of losing. Although that's not a very noble thought process in kayfabe. sek69
Konnan dropped a bomb on his podcast that Sofia Alonso is possibly leaving CMLL to start a new promotion. This could end up being another "everyone leaves with Antonio Pena to start AAA" deal since nearly everyone is pissed at Chavo Lutteroth taking over and cutting everyone's pay. SirEdger
I wonder if Rush and Dragon Lee would be part of that adventure.
El-P
We truly live in crazy pro-wrestling times. The last 12 months have been ridiculous.
sek69
Dave mentioned a key point on the Friday WO radio show, Paco Alonso owned a lot of trademarks directly rather than CMLL so those would all go to Sofia now. If she were to leave and start her own deal she could feasibly bring a lot of CMLL guys under their current gimmicks. We'll see what happens, but what's known for sure is she's pissed that she got the rug pulled out from under her. She didn't even show up to the Anniversary show, which was significant even though the show was a dumpster fire.
joeg
The Crash Anniversary show is looking pretty great. Lucha Bros vs Munoz family, an apuestas match with a bunch of Tijuana locals, Los Traumas challenging for the tag titles, and a Solar vs Navarro maestro match. sek69
The Crash is quickly coming to a point where if they want to step up and become a big promotion or just be the place guys go in between US indy gigs. CMLL seems intent on shooting itself in the dick as a promotional mindset, and AAA is gonna AAA, so this could be their chance.
El-P
Odds of Sofia showing her face at The Crash anniversary show ? That would be quite the earthquake.
Cobra Commander
1) hopefully the CMLL YouTube people jump to a hypothetical Sofia fed, or at least they get a web presence quick 2) Paco owns the trademarks, but presumably the fed itself owns the main arenas, right? this timeline can't get so weird that Sofia also ends up owning their main arenas somehow
sek69
It's always been stated that CMLL owns the arenas, but a lot of other things that CMLL was thought to own were actually in Paco's name so who knows? Mr. Lutteroth built Arena Mexico, so who's to say it wasn't something passed down the family?
Cobra Commander
a CMLL split would be a mix of the CMLL/AAA split and a NOAH/AJPW split if enough CMLL people leave with Sofia. But yeah, owning the buildings is one of the smartest cost-saving moves done in wrestling, so it'd be amazing if the promotion that owned their buildings managed to mess that up anyways. Probably the best case scenario for both sides (and especially CMLL) is that a split ends up with a reunion where everybody makes money in the end. NintendoLogic
https://luchacentral.com/breaking-news-la-parka-suffers-potential-serious-injury/ To be clear, this is the second La Parka, not LA Park. Still, terrible news. If you really want to see it, here's the footage of the injury.
Coffey
Fuck me. First thought was "fuck, he's paralyzed." Thankfully the article cleared it up: "Lucha Central cannot confirm the severity of the injury at this time. We were initially told that the 53 year old Parka mentioned to doctors he couldn’t feel his legs and that the injury was feared to be a fracture in his neck. Roberto Figueroa however has since reported that Parka has regained mobility of his limbs and is at the local hospital to receive an MRI, all while in stable condition." Well wishes for that dude. That's a hellacious video. Rush didn't really catch him as it looked like La Park was short but then some how still hit the barricade behind Rush. Looks like his legs got caught on the rope on the dive. Fucked up. Two things: push the damn barricades back farther - should have been done awhile ago, not just in Mexico. Secondly, can we cut back on all the damn dives in wrestling? We're to the point now where it's not uncommon for even dudes over 300 pounds to be doing that shit. Freakin' 55 year old Ken Shamrock just did one yesterday. It's ridiculous. It's not worth it & they're not even special anymore. It's not just another spot.
TheDuke
I agree. The dives seriously do not mean anything. They are in like every match. There is no reason for them. If you took them out, nobody would miss them.
sek69
Moose legit saved Ken Shamrock's life, he was about to land head first on the floor but Moose was able to catch and rotate him so it was more of a back bump. I appreciate the effort but old dudes shouldn't be doing dives, the risk/reward is just not worth it. It's not Rush's fault but it's the first time he's worked with AAA La Parka and probably didn't know he has a rep for coming up short on dives. You can see it seems to register about a second too late that he's not going to make it and he has a "oh shit" reaction. Cubsfan mentioned on Twitter that Parka had surgery for what was described as a neck/cervical fracture. Hopefully it's not something that will keep him from having a normal day-to-day life. What really sucks is that he was winding down due to accumulated injury and was only sticking around because his son is about to debut with his old Karis La Momia gimmick. That's why his only involvement on the AAA show Saturday was a promo and a beatdown.
SirEdger
That thud was terrifying;
sek69
So he had surgery on his 4th cervical vertebra so it looks like at best his wrestling career is over, hopeful he's able to have a normal life otherwise.
NintendoLogic
He honestly should have retired a long time ago. He's been virtually immobile for years. But after the Perro Aguayo Jr./Silver King situations, it was great to see medical personnel on him pretty much immediately. Given the severity of the injury, it could very well be the difference between life and death.
sek69
Silver King's death seems to have been the moment that finally clued in Lucha promotions to the fact they shouldn't fuck around with having medical personnel on shows. clintthecrippler
Is there any update on Shil-Ka, the other luchador that ALSO got taken away on a stretcher on Sunday night after a dive gone wrong on a different show?
sek69
In a bit of randomness seldom seen outside of FMW or WAR six man tag team, Sean Lennon was at the Sunday Arena Mexico show last night.
sek69
So it turns out in addition to the known names like Santo, Konnan, Blue Demon, there are other names on the CMLL blacklist such as Pirata Morgan, Lady Apache, and El Dandy. So the answer to the age old question is CMLL. It's CMLL who doubts El Dandy.
NintendoLogic
Didn't El Dandy retire a few years ago?
sek69
As much as anyone retires in wresting, especially lucha, yeah. Other than Konnan, who's on the list for obvious reasons, most of the people who get blacklisted are there because they know their value and don't accept the peanuts CMLL offers most folks.
