El Boricua
Rock n Roll RPM's vs. The Crusher & Eric Embry (3/29/86)
elliott
Embry’s head is taped up and announcers are talking about this as a No DQ match so I expect BLOOD. Little bit of schtick to start but RPM’s isolate and start working over Embry pretty quickly and bust him back open. Embry manages to tag out to Crusher who is somebody doing a Brody act. RPM’s continue to command the match early on. Heels take over with Crusher reversing a backbody drop with a huge knee to the face. Heel’s cheat behind refs back is fun. Embry’s selling the blood loss is great as are the announcers talking about it. Mike Davis plays Ricky Morton and is really good here. Long Davis in peril segment really but they keep it moving along well and Davis looks very good. Embry, god. These reviews are just going to be me saying how good Embry is over and over again I think. The longer this face in peril segment goes the better this match gets. Hot tag is a little disappointing considering the work leading up to it but its ok but the finish is GREAT and the fans go nuts. RPM’s have had an incredible night. 3 matches with each one better than the last. I really want to see this entire tournament. This looks like a hell of a night of wrestling and the announcing is fantastic.
Willninho
I really disliked this ending; the crowd loved it but I didn't think it fit at all. The face in peril segment is pretty great; it just feels the tricking ending isn't together with this long final with blood. A good capper to a fun tournament though. 7/10. KB8
Hell of a tournament final. This was reeeeeal good and my favourite tag so far. Eric Embry was fucking excellent yet again -- he's someone I kind of want to do a deep dive on at some point now. He comes into this with a bandaged up head and the badage gets torn off inside about a minute, and the cut the bandage was there to protect is opened up again less than a minute after that. There are a few times later on where that cut comes back to hurt him, like when he hits a headbutt on Davis and sells it like it did as much damage to himself as it did his opponent, which I thought was pretty damn cool. He was also the main recipient of the babyface shine early on and I about lost it when he got fed up and just booted Davis in the nuts (he does it again towards the end and Hugo on commentary assures us that, despite Bobby Jaggers telling us it was a kick to the midsection, it was definitely a boot to the "testicle area"). We get a bit of double FIP action in this as well, and the long heat segment on Davis was really awesome. Crusher is a bit of a stiff and miscues a few things a little, but otherwise he's fine throwing kicks and big knees. Embry doing his thing is enough to cover for him, anyway. I loved him tripping over as he came in to try and prevent the hot tag. I loved him selling exhaustion on the apron. I loved his piledriver. I loved pretty much everything he did in this match. I also loved the finish, and the crowd go absolutely apeshit for it as well. Like, the place is rumbling, the camera shaking, people in the crowd jumping around hugging each other. And then Embry assists his valet post-match in piledriving Wendi Richter after he and Crusher ruin the RnRs' title presentation. Long live Eric Embry. WingedEagle
Still just not a fan of the RPMs. They work a decent southern tag with heat so its far from bad, but they seem like terrible babyfaces that are tough to get behind. Fun finish with the RPMs swapping position leading to a small package. The best part of this is the post-match attack from the heel with spike piledrivers, including one to Wendi Richter. Give me more of that and less of the bell to bell and there is a lot of potential here. **1/
Migs
Bit of an odd story, where the heel Embry is the one coming in hurt. Fast start, and then the RPM shine segment, which is kinda dull. Liked the quick tease of a heat segment before hitting the real one. Loved Hugo saying "testicle." The real heat segment is pretty good. Not sure who this Crusher is, but he's pretty decent, and Embry is really good. Loved the chin lock / figure-four combo. Dug the finish, with the tease on Embry's piledriver as the ref was putting Davis out of the ring, and then the switch playing on how Davis and Lane look basically the same. Giant pop for the end. Miss Wrestling Puerto Rico did not look like she was having much fun. ***1/
dawho5
Embry was gold here. Crusher was good enough as a big man, wasn't buying the RPMs that much.
