Loss
Spanky looks great here. It would be interesting to see who would be more over between him and Will Ospreay if he came along today, because Ospreay is the better athlete, but Spanky is no slouch there and is so much more charismatic. Rudy Boy is a very good local veteran who plays a good base for Spanky's more daredevil offense. Only a Shawn Michaels fed would have such a glowing opinion of cocaine on commentary. Rudy Boy works over Spanky's back and the lead announcer puts it over as an attempt to neutralize his aerial offense. Shawn impresses me by saying he'd hate to make anyone think that's all Spanky has in his arsenal, but admits that would hurt his ability to win the match. Spanky does a great overhead belly-to-belly off the top and stays on the top rope so he doesn't have to take the bump, and now I know where Danielson got that. This worked better than Spanky-Dragon because of the sharper contrast in styles. The run-in spot is a bit telegraphed by how everyone is positioned when Bonecrusher runs in, but it's still well done. Rudy Boy wins the TV title after a superkick. Good match. ***
soup23
Spanky is such a little shit and these pants are so obnoxious. Rudy Boy comes out to teach this punk a lesson but I liked how they showed Spanky wasn’t just all show here as he takes over fairly quickly and hits a great back elbow from the top rope to the floor. Really nice tope by Spanky too. Bone Crusher runs into the rail but that allows Rudy Boy to back body drop Spanky into the fans in a violent manner. Rudy works over Spanky well enough but this match is a catalyst of the charisma of Spanky jumping off the page. The execution is still sloppy in spots but the intent is there. Rudy even goes to the top here and takes forever to do so. Spanky catches up to him and delivers a German from there. Spanky fires back and hits another huge dive over the top. Bone Crusher decides to just come in the ring to the incompetence of the referee but he hits Rudy Boy. Implant DDT and Spanky goes for his frog splash finisher. Bone Crusher crotches him and a superkick from Rudy Boy wins him the tv title. This was a match where the pupil outshined the teacher. **1/
AstroBoy
This was a total blast with Spanky going a mile a minute at the start and staying one step ahead of Rudy Boy. After some control by Rudy Boy, Spanky makes a comeback with a sweet reverse DDT out of a pumphandle slam attempt. Spanky did do some goofy cartwheel kick thing that looked kind of odd but he combined his charisma and flying with a lot of fire that translated into something much more "serious" and threatening. The way he worked in this made him feel like not just a silly weird skinny guy but a daredevil who can hurt you bad, very quickly, when he uses his arsenal and pace. Rudy Boy feels like an unsung guy just from the two matches I've seen him in so far. Very fun match, not much more you could ask for from a 10 minute TV match. Super high on this match. Robert S
I thought this was the best of the TWA matches so far. Rudy Boy controlled the match really well and as a result this had the best structure of the TWA matches.
Tim Evans
It's just crazy seeing Spanky here and see how Kendrick wrestles now. It's like night and day. For a guy that had only been wrestling for a short time, he sure does a lot of crazy moves and does them well. That german from the top rope where Rudy Boy lands on his neck is nuts. Rudy boy is the guy that holds this together. Like when he has to basically yell at Bonecrusher to distract the ref. Also love that he comes out to the chase. Moonsault Marvin
Solid match. The start of this one was really good. They were quite fast paced without it looking choreographed. Rudy Boy did a good job of pacing throughout the match. How he got up from landing on his neck on that suplex from the top is a mystery. They had a few timing mishaps after that like on the handspring elbow, but it was still a fun match.
GSR
A title match for Spanky’s TV title with Bonecrusher in Rudy Boy’s corner. Rudy jumps Spanky as soon as he steps through the ropes and starts to go to work on him. Spanky with a frankensteiner and a spinning flying headscissors. He drags Rudy to the outside and comes off the top turnbuckle with an elbow onto him. He rolls him back in the ring and a missile dropkick only brings a one. Reverse atomic drop, regular atomic drop and Rudy (with some great facials) stumbles out of the ring to the floor with the commentator saying ‘his testicles are in turmoil’! Tope through the ropes, but that takes its toll on Spanky too. He charges at Rudy, only for Rudy to backdrop him over the guard rail and into the front row of the crowd. Rudy Boy distracts the referee allowing Bonecrusher to put the boots to Spanky before throwing him back into the ring. Next it’s Bonecrusher’s turn to distract the official giving Rudy the chance to apply his ‘Texas tarantula’ submission for longer than the regulation five seconds. Big backbreaker as Rudy continues to work on Spanky’s lower back. Pump handle slam that Spanky reverses into a reverse DDT, or as Shawn Michaels calls it, a ‘slop drop’. He misses a moonsault and Rudy with a powerbomb. He climbs to the top turnbuckle but takes too long and Spanky is able to get back to his feet and nail him from behind. He then hits a vicious looking German suplex off the top with Rudy landing flush on his neck. Spanky whips Rudy into the ropes, he ducks a clothesline but is met with a handspring elbow that sends him to the floor. Big dive over the top rope out onto him. Rudy reverses an Irish whip to the turnbuckles, he charges at Spanky, however drop toe hold and Rudy goes crashing head first into the bottom one. Sensing his man in trouble Bonecrusher gets in the ring and sets himself up for the spear. He runs at Spanky who leaps over him and Crusher takes out Rudy Boy instead. Face first suplex and Spanky heads up for the frog splash. Bonecrusher takes his legs out from under him and Spanky crotches himself. Superkick from Rudy (that the camera almost misses) and we’ve a new TWA TV champion. This was the last TWA match of January that I had to watch, and it’s been a very strong in-ring month for them with me enjoying everything that I’ve seen. The best Spanky has looked so far and that has to be down to him being in there with a veteran worker. Great pace to the match, with Rudy’s control segment slowing things down in the middle portion. The set up for the German off the top didn’t look the best, but you quickly forget about that once you see the bump that Rudy takes from it. Cracking spot towards the end where Spanky leapfrogs over Bonecrusher’s spear and he takes out Gonzalez instead. A shade below Dragon/Buster for me, but another very good TV match. TravJ1979
This was the Spanky show. Michael's calling him the Spankster over and over gave me a chuckle. Spanky's charisma and showmanship is unmatched out of the handful of Indy guys I'm tracking so far. Just needs to work on the timing. Edwin
Best performance by Spanky so far. Young rookie vs. experienced vet match. That Spider German suplex from Spanky and that dive over the top he's been doing in all of his matches were great. Spanky needs to work on execution a bit as he seems off a bit, but other than that, this was perfectly fine. The best match from TWA out of the bunch so far, with American Dragon vs. Ultimate Bad Guy close right behind it.
